Kerbal Space Program, or: "How many rockets can I slap onto this thing?"

Awesome, just put a satellite in orbit.
I'm going just a bit too slow but the satellite is going just a bit faster than me so I guess it's near perfect.

God damnit, the satelite accidentaly went too high and I got shot up a bit too.
So now I am in a near perfect orbit and the satellite is shot in to space.
Any news on the next update yet like what will be in it or when it will come out?

Here are the current changes and new features for KSP 0.8.5:
New:
* Added copying of parts (and sets of parts) by holding Alt while clicking on them.
* Replaced tricoupler textures and UV mapping (UV map by Dippeggs)
* Parachutes can now deploy automatically if jettisoned along with other parts (allowing for parts to be safely landed)
* Stage decouplers can now share fuel across stages.
* Added Keys to control the camera in the VAB (+/- for zooming, pgup/pgdown for scrolling)
* Added Keys to control the camera in flight (+/- for zooming)
* Added some sound effects for the parachute opening
* Added cfg-definable parameter for parachute autodeployment delay
* Added a debugging console to the game (can be toggled with Ctrl+Alt+Shift+C)
* Right-clicking the Symmetry Button will now step the symmetry mode back.
* It is no longer possible to select a part of the ship while the mouse is over any interface items.
* Added toggle key to switch between precision or instant input modes (Caps Lock)
* Pitch, Yaw and Roll gauges change color to indicate mode (orange for instant, cyan for precision)
* Exposed Kd, Ki and Kp parameters for tuning the SAS and CommandPod modules
Bug Fixes:
* Fixed the staging lock LED not turning purple after launch
* Icons no longer show a transparent border floating around then mousing over disconnected parts.
* Fixed a bug where deleting a symmetrical part would sometimes leave it's counterparts floating around.
* Fixed a bug where creating a new stage with a decoupler and then removing it would generate errors.
* Fixed most sound volume decay over distance problems.
* Fixed a bug that caused a massive performance drop when fuel tanks emptied (fuel tank switch lag bug)
* The Flight camera will now remain always centered on the ship's center of mass.
* The Screenshot function will now create a Screenshots directory if one isn't found.
* The altimeter will now go past 999,999K correctly (it will move up to 1000M, then 1000G, 1000T and so on)
* Fixed a bug that could cause large ships to explode at 5,000m altitude.
Cheers
:D YAY! parachutes on my booster rockets now! :D
needs more wings
for.. stability :v:
I tried that today!
my lander design.

Worked like a charm during vertical tests where i was launching 15km up and then going straight down.
Then i put it in orbit, did one full circle around the Kearth and tried landing on space center.
And well... turns out putting winglets on it was VERY BAD idea. Dream lander turned into unresponsive carpet bomb. And all i could do is just watch it tumble into the ground. At least i did perfect orbit and re-entry :v:

And yet Jebediah is smiling... He's such a badass!
I want you all to try something really simple. Get a command pod, a fuel tank and engine. Turn on 8x symmetry and surround your craft with jannus's giant plane wings.
Now, on the launch pad, thottle up till you're level with the top of the tower and turn off your engine.
Physics will happen.
* Exposed Kd, Ki and Kp parameters for tuning the SAS and CommandPod modules
About time. One of my main concerns was the fact that the SAS Module's correction was insanely ineffective most of the time, but with this I should be able to tune the PID loops (I'm surprised PID loops are used) to make large rockets with a lot of mass stabler. Now he just needs to add the ability to tweak this individually for spaceships.
In case anyone want to attempt to tweak this, I'd suggest you read up on PID loops quickly first. It's a mathematical way of correcting something mechanical smoothly. In this case it measures how far away the orientation of spaceship is from the target heading and then calculates the rate of change, how much it needs to correct and so on to smoothly and quickly reach the preferred heading. The advantage of PID loops is that they are very effective (smooth and quick response), but it has the disadvantage of requiring tweaking for individual systems (spaceships in this case) to function optimally. In KSB I'm suspecting he tweaked them for small rockets, meaning that medium and large sized rockets with a lot of thrust won't correct themselves correctly, even if you put a lot of SAS modules on.
If you still feel confident enough to tweak it (it takes a bit of time and requires some practice) read the "Manual Tuning" section on the Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PID_controller#Manual_tuning

Also, for some reason in 0.8.3, my rocket likes to skip from stage 4 to stage 2, which causes complete chaos and messes up everything. Any ideas?

Where did you get those 2 thrusters that are in black?

Which mods are you using there?
Which mods are you using there?
I really dont know... i jsut spammed it with whatever i could find :( its in the parts folder, jsut not appearing. :(
Then delete the folder from the parts folder, and extract it out of the main zip file again.

You could redownload the game or redownload the game and copy the standard fuel tank to your game.
And i have my second orbit
Apogee @ 212,877m
Perigee @ 205,982m
7km difference, good enough.
Going to do a full orbit and land back to the station. And thats about 1.9 orbits.
EDIT:
And opening steam overlay royally fucked it all up :suicide:

That's one small step for Jeb... one giant leap for Bob and Bill
God damnit, almost got a very nice orbit, then started going down, but to make it worse, I was landed..
1 meter away from the ground, into a lake, and exploded.
First orbit done. Hope they put in some control lock as if your orbit is elliptical it's damn hard to keep the rocket facing the same way.

When you're in space, there's no air resistance... so orientation of the rocket doesn't actually matter :)
How do you get into orbit, just get into space and thrust sideways?
I align my nose with green circle every now and then so I have better view of how the orbiting's going, though I have enough information from HUD.
EDIT: iPope: Yes, but make sure to keep eye on where green ring is on that blue-red ball thingy (I have no idea what's the word for it in my mother language), it should be aligned with the thick white line between hemispheres. Also, lowest possible orbit height is 35 000m and you shouldn't go slower than 2km/s.

Gj reading the OP, here.
Orbital data:https://gist.github.com/1073201
I suck at this game so very much.
Can't get past 40,000 feet.
thats a point haha, the ocd still gets to me though.
[editline]18th July 2011[/editline]
one other thing, anyone know the best way to get out of orbit? is it to slow down as much as possible of fire a rocket while facing down
Did i win?

6 stage rocket and 544km? Nope.
Are they gonna fix that lag where you're almost into space and you get that horrendous lag?
Umm? I have quite weak rig, but I experience nothing like that.

Slowing down is the best because then the gravity will pull you in so you don't have to do much work.
The only case where I'm propelling downwards is when doing a quick re-entry from 35km orbit (actually I'm doing 50/50, 45 degree angle backwards/towards earth). That's because below 35km is atmosphere which will slow you down.
How do I speed the game up? Its boring waiting for the descent
