Grinding it during the influx of low tier frenchies helped a lot for me
If you know that low tier heavy frenchies can be penetrated but low tier light frenchies cannot it helps

In the Tiger's case, you can mount everything without the tracks so there's not really any need to spend the (15k?) XP to research them.

Turning a lot faster isn't really needed I guess. Also having better ability to cross rough terrain.

chances are you'll survive the battery of fire to be able to get within 3 feet of the enemy anyway so its not too big a deal

Come on, the turret is anything but impenetrable.
Only impenetrable part is the tiny mantlet, even when the turret directly faces you, you can penetrate it with long 88mm with ease.
