I love this game, but I'd love a remake or something because it's very hard to play on Windows 7 due to glitches and that.
There is a mod called HQ Arcanum i think, check the OP links.
I can't find it anywhere, can someone link me up by any chance?
Cool I already broke my game. Went into the mine in shrouded city thingie. There's one wolf that completely PWNZ the hell out of that stupid robed idiot and myself. Can't do nothing about it, that idiot keeps running into his doom every time I load the game. Sucks. Not even a special wolf, I already killed like 20 of them but I always miss this one and it has like 50 attacks and kills this virgin guy before he makes his first move [editline]08:54PM[/editline] phew, robed idiot survived long enough for me to run out of the cave
One of my best games ever!!Playing as a technology guy...Making uberguns...G-R-E-A-T!
I can't find it anywhere, can someone link me up by any chance?
http://drog.terra-arcanum.com/highres.html#info Here you go mate, have some fun.
It's a wee bit confusing in the beginning, I learned this the hard way. A half ogre with intelligence score of 2 and strength of 23 is a bad idea for a first character. He was all :downs: Mages are the best in the beginning, just get the harm spell.
I got this game a few weeks ago. I fucking love it.
Well this game is somewhat hard. I took the "heroes son" perk and now I can't do anything bad without seriously fucking shit up. I'm still in shrouded hills and - well, nothing to do but I cannot leave. I cannot get past the thieves on the bridge. Now I read that you can destroy the other bridges material but as a heroes son I cannot do that. I don't have the 1000 gold, not even close and no way on earth getting it. If I fight them they kill me in the first round - I can fire 2 shots then virgil and I lie in a puddle of blood. :iia:
http://drog.terra-arcanum.com/highres.html#info Here you go mate, have some fun.
Cheers, although, that's the one I had last time which sort of ruined the HUD. I'll probably use it anyway though. Also, is there a way to get it in windowed mode?
I wanna play this! Check this site out guys, it has unparalleled info on these types of games, old and new, Fallout, Arcanum, Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights and a lot more. I go here all the time, it's how I'm researching this game. www.gamebanshee.com
better then Fallout? I must play this.
I never really got into Arcanum as much as I did with Fallout, but seeing this thread reminds me to finish the game up.
Oh, hi. I just popped in to say that this is the best game ever, and if you think it isn't the best game ever then your opinion is WRONG. Have a nice day.
I think fallout 2 and arcanum are about equal. Fallout 2 has awesome dialogue and epic moments. Plus critical hits are just too much fun. But arcanum makes up for the lack of action and dark humor by a more indepth world. Or atleast that's how i see it.
Well this game is somewhat hard. I was too weak to kill the thieves or would take forever to whack the stack. I think i eventually used dynamite on the materials but i sort of forgot.
if you enjoy arcanum I highly recommend Vampire the masquerade bloodlines, on steam. Same Devs, RPG on the source engine. Lotsa fun.
I decided to go 100% technology, as a (pretty much) first time player that shit is difficult. Good fun though!
Wait I don't get it, is it real time or turn-based? Nevermind should have read the thread. If I can get it working on Windows 7 I'll try out the demo or something.
Salvaging the blimp is fucking fun when you're a tech guy.
So, how much does this resemble Fallout in terms of controls, combat, choices, RPG elements etc?
It's pretty much the same.
Just a quick question: Do people play this in real time or turn based mode? I've been playing turn based, because real time seems really difficult, but it feels like it might be more diablo-esque if it's real time, is that true or is it just more difficult and twitchy?
Turn based, you can abuse it so easily.

So I switched to turn base.

Just keep moving and fill them with bullets.
Soo.. After failing as a basically-first-timer with my techguy I decided to make something with more... smash. Ogre in a suit! Forgot about intelligence, now he speaks a little bit... dumb. Is there a problem with it in the game like in Fallout where you couldn't do most of the quests because people won't speak with you or can I play through the game that way? [editline]12:14AM[/editline] Hahahaha I love how people speak with you :D I'll play as far as I get :D [editline]12:30AM[/editline] Holy shit I already destroyed another character! Quicksaved during combat just before being killed. Nice one - no other save. Damn why would anybody put quicksave and quicklode directly next to each other  [editline]12:30AM[/editline] this game really makes it hard to like it :> [editline]12:37AM[/editline] okay started another dumb ogre. Doing shit 5 times sure makes it fast to get to the point where you've been
I don't see any advantage of playing a tech guy in this game. If you're all magicky you just learn a spell with your nifty character points and your off, in your a tech guy you have to waste character points learning schematics, and then you have to go and find the ingredients, and there's a little number next to them that I don't understand because I haven't read the manual. Am I missing something or is there any use to playing a tech guy?
Oh, a recent Arcanum discussion! It is one of my favourite games. I recommend the Unofficial Arcanum Patch and hi-res patch, as well as my universal level cap remover. The unofficial patch fixes a tremendous number of bugs in the game, while hardly changing anything and adding absolutely no custom content. The high-res one can introduce a few bugs, though, so be careful. Speaking about breaking the game, save in one slot when you are entering a location, save in another slot when leaving it, save in yet another slot each time the main plot advances. Better more (slot for each level-up, slot for completion of each quest, etc.) This game is long, and you don't want to break it in the middle. And it is quite possible, thanks to numerous bugs and overall complexity. What I don't like about it is that it is not only long, it is mostly linear, unlike Fallout 2. In Fallout 2 you can get almost anywhere and do almost anything in any order. In Arcanum you cannot even get back to the city where the zeppelin was flying from, until you need to go there according to the main plot. And when this happens, you just go to any ship Captain and say "Hey, can you get me there?" - "Sure, 100 coins!" Makes no sense. For the first character build I would recommend a melee fighter / mage with a good bit of persuasion (charisma 12, 3rd rank persuasion + expert will do). Melee fighting will make game a bit more fun. Thieving are good too, but spreading too thin is bad. From Magick, Conveyance, Force, Necromantic White and Temporal are probably the best choices, also there is much, much more fun things (summoning, for example). I also don't recommend tech and guns especially. Tech-melee or tech-throwing is better. Tech overall can be more fun but also more difficult. Numbers next to ingredients are required expertise. You can buy heavy and expensive tech manuals which increase your expertise as long as you have them in your inventory. This way even a mage can make a technological thing, if needed. Speaking about difficulty, this game has one of the worst difficulty settings I've ever seen. Increasing difficulty makes you receive less experience, instead of making the game more fun. This is kind of stupid, so I always play on easy. We need more Thief-like difficulty! Dumb characters are very fun, but you miss a lot of quests, just like Fallout. Not recommended for the first run, but must-do later. Don't make it dumb and extremely ugly, though, or people may start attacking you instead of having fun dialogue with you. And if one ever wants a LP of it, here is the ultimate Let's Play Arcanum. It's simply awesome.

Also you can find schematics, which you actually should for a lot of the inventions.
I never tried this game, even though i've been thinking about doing it for years on end. Every time i hear something new about the game i regret it even more. Screw it, im gonna try and get my hands on it, hope i can somehow get it to run on W7.
I own it from GOG.com there is a patch somewhere that lets you change the resolution to anything you want. It works quite well in 1920 x 1080, although the text can be a bit tiny. I played it a bit, but it was insanely hard if you made wrong decisions. Also, why is this front page after 3 years??
