I was playing an adventure map, and in it I had to use a ship's cannon to blow a hole into the wall of the cave it was stuck at, after the cannons fired and the wall got blown out I saw this:

I miss my old world. It was a massive plain with a small harbor, 90% of which was a land mass where i built my house. I built a system of rivers to deter mobs and mob traps with lava that sent the items down the river into my underground stash where i collected them. On the other side of the harbor was a large rock with lots of coal and iron.
Beta 1.2 worlds were the best IMO.

Ok. So i tried generating a world with alpha generation (i used mc edit)
What the fuck. Black block mountains everywhere, if i hit them i get the "saving chunks" error, black water pouring out of mountains, however i think that's oil from the technic pack. But there's an oil pool every 100 blocks or so. I found 4 large, steep mountains in a square shape that made a nice little home.
