I find that it really helps with early mana problems because before I started buying the tear if I didn't have blue buff I would often find myself dying or losing a kill due to a lack of mana, but now that is no longer an issue. It's only a small investment for a large payoff in my opinion.

It works for me. I don't find that a 1000 gold investment really puts me behind on my build as I'm usually accumulating vast amounts of money and fucking bitches anyway.

I don't play phoenix Udyr. I play both tiger and phoenix. I go phoenix early on to clear the jungle, but most of my items are geared towards tiger damage anyway. When I attack an enemy champion I activate tiger, turtle, then bear before attacking. Then once I attack, I switch to phoenix, attack 3 times, then tiger, turtle, and bear again before attacking as phoenix again 3 times. Really, it's using all of his moves to maximize DPS.
Tiger and turtle are really only useful for their active abilities where as phoenix is used for prolonged fights.

turtle is your mana regen, always max it after phoenix.

I disagree. Turtle doesn't regen enough mana for it to be the sole source of mana regen. If I were to use turtle for regening mana, it would take me so much longer to kill things in the jungle since I would be using turtle instead of phoenix and therefore I wouldn't be able to level as quickly and I wouldn't be able to gank as often.

He states that turtle is my main mana regen; therefore, he intends for me to attack with turtle and not just max it for the shield. I, however, do not see a point in maxing turtle before tiger as level 3 turtle is plenty of shield and at that point in the game getting high damage output for ganks is more important.

When I play Udyr I go Pheonix and basically build tank except for wits which is my only "damage" item. I run into 0 mana problems, despite having 0 mana items and really only need the first blue buff. I fail to see how you can possible need something like tear to play udyr.
just got my first pentakill, unofficial though. I was all like "why don't I see any nocturnes anymore" so I decided I'd play him for a game. Got a quadra but this fucking kennen kept running and I had to wait for ult uptime.
