I can install it right over Beta 9 or what ever right?
Oh sure. Upgrading to the next release should never be an issue. I always do everything in my power to make certain the latest build is compatible with previous saves. Hell, you can even use a completed vanilla save in GotR with no problem (though you would be missing a few things.)

You're awesome :D
Wow awesome Idolninja, thanks for the 5 dollar amazon link! I was waiting for a sale for this and I think just buying it online will be better. One question, I might of missed this part but you can activate the amazon copy via steam right?
Also if anyone if interested:

Yes, SR2 boxed installs on Steam. You can't even install it standalone if you wanted to. In fact, I have bought extra copies of SR2 PC from Amazon and gifted some online friends by just PM'ing them the key on the manual which they then activated on Steam.

Some teaser pics. This mod was actually something that Shambler Saint discovered over a year ago, so all credit goes to him for figuring out how to do it:

If you reallllllllly want to play around with it, send me a pm and I'll toss up a test build for you to get your Oillie on.
also do anyone complaining that nonsteam and steam cant play here is what you do.
1.Do get the uptates
for the nonsteam version you need do get them off certain The pirate bay(I AM NOT ENDORCING PIRACY IM JUST SAYING WHERE DO GET THE PATCHES.).There should be 2 uptates availible 1.1 and 1.2
and after the uptates are done being applied do the nonsteam version and maybe the steam one too just that they work together. Copy the steam game folder onto the desktop or somewhere else.THEN both the nonsteam and steam need a NoCD crack for the 1.2 version(if anyone has trouble getting this PM me) Then the game should launch fine and just login into gamespy and host or join a game.
This method has been 100% confirmed do work.
idolninja your mod makes me wish i had a computer capable of running sr2

It sounds kind of odd that you would have to crack your own fully patched 1.2 steam exe in order to coop with a 1.1 player who updated using this cracked patch. It doesn't make sense to me. If this cracked patch did actually update a 1.1 Gamersgate version to the final 1.2 then it should have no trouble connecting to a Steam player (at 1.2.)
If you do have to do this for both players to coop, then I've got wonder if this patch is really 1.2. If anyone does try it, send me a PM. I have some questions and things to test with GotR.
Weren't you already fixing a bunch of them? tbh, the clothes never really bothered me much... except that horrible biker jacket texture. If you have better textures for them, I'll certainly take a look at them to add in.
I tried fixing them by scaling down the detail textures and making them less strong, because the ones in the game are like 500% of the scale they should be and are way too strong, but for some reason, those edited detail textures would only show up sometimes and when they would show up, they would just make the low quality diffuse textures under them show, which didn't look good at all.
Hey IdolNinja!
Does GotR add any tweaks to the character creation sliders?

Not yet. I've gotten some results with body fat, but it still needs work before I can make it part of the mod.
Awesome.
Edit: Who else thinks that it's the biggest fucking shame that the co-op in saints row 2 supports only two players? I hope they let atleast 4 people play co-op at the same time with in the third. Imagine if it would be 8 or 16 :v:

GTA4 Free Roam with 16 players was the greatest thing ever, especially with a trainer. Oh, the shenanigans we got up to. I would kill to have that in SR3.

I agree fully with this statement.
Need more people for Online Co-op. Much more people.
holy fuck you can ride the ronin motorcycle up walls :psyduck:

Yeah, the second update on TPB is not actually 1.2. I have no idea what it is, but not 1.2 since you can't play co-op with the Steam version with it. And trainers made for 1.2 also don't work. Although it might be that it updates the content to 1.2, but the main exe differs, as Steam's is encrypted.
I've been playing with GotR 10b on non-Steam with my friend, it's been working pretty well. There are couple crashes I've found, Avenger Jacket seems to cause one when you scroll over it in wardrobe.

Yeah, if it's having wardrobe crashes with GotR then that's a sign that it's not 1.2.
All attempts to look for non steam 1.2 patch have resulted in scam sites or otherwise being false for me. Damnit.

Yeah its kinda odd but it worked for me and tehzipfile so im not complaining.
You might have actually downgraded your steam saints row.
Is a dual core CPU really essential when running SR2 on PC?
[editline]14th March 2011[/editline]
Does hyperthreading work? :v:
Is a dual core CPU really essential when running SR2 on PC?
Kinda, if its i3. A better core would be i5/i7. Yes, it requires more than Crysis, how the hell is that possible? Saints Row 3 better not be like its shitty port on the PC. And yes, I am looking forward to airstriking those idiots in animal costumes, missile dropkick hijacking cars, RCing tanks and air transports, while looking like a ninja fighting a pirate for no reason.
Before, GTA was my favorite sandbox game, now, its Saints Row. I mean, bowling vs stopping a fight between pirates and ninjas? Sure, you can use the swingset glitch in 4, but I would rather screw around in a sandbox game instead of that, especially that I can go ahead and jump off the tallest building in the game, and survive it without a parachute(after skydiving perfectly).
Okay, so I'm considering getting the disc version that was on sale via amazon, but I remember all the things people were saying about the latest most awesome patch ever that was only available on the steam version, and you guys were kind of talking about it, but I didn't entirely understand. Following that method, will I have the latest patch?
Also, how do the two versions compare?
Which one has a higher chance of finding co-op games and runs better?
Yeah, if it's having wardrobe crashes with GotR then that's a sign that it's not 1.2.
I believe I found the reason it crashes. I tested with the TPB patch installed, didn't crash that time. The patch included patch.vpp_pc, which GotR overwrote, a cracked SR2_pc.exe and shaders_pc. The cracked .exe didn't matter, it didn't crash even without it, so I think the shaders are causing the crashes. 1.2 changed something in them, which you're using. A quick fix could be including the version 1.2 shaders_pc with GotR.
[editline]hush[/editline]
Co-op probably depends on the .exe version, which would be why it only works with the Steam version if you install the crack on that too.

I think you can register the Amazon version on Steam, you just need the serial key.

That would be great news for everyone on 1.1 if it works. If it's not too much trouble, would you please confirm a few other things with the now supposedly stable 1.2 with GotR v1.9 beta 10b:
* All 16:10 resolutions are available (1920x1200, 1680x1050, 1440x900)
* Enemy Tornado pilots will now fire at you with both chaingun and rockets
* The Fuzz activity does not crash on start
* Working with outfits in the stores doesn't crash. Both viewing buying new ones, and also viewing/saving/equipping existing from your wardrobe (while in the stores.) A confirmed problem location for this is the store at Let's Pretend
EDIT:
I uploaded the 1.2 shaders_pc file and made a news post asking 1.1 users to test and see if that fixes their wardrobe issues. If anyone is on 1.1, please download the shaders file and see if that fixes your clothing crash issues with GotR:

Yes, the boxed retail version you are buying on Amazon does register on Steam. You will be fully patched to the final 1.2 after updating on Steam. This is the best possible way to acquire SR2 PC other than buying it directly from Steam (plus it's cheaper.)
