Building an open world game on a new engine in a new city with a completely different style of play structure is not an easy thing to do without cutting content.
Why? I don't see how cutting all of those things mentioned by kills2much would really impact the gameplay they have gone for at all, other than giving you more shit to do, which by the way is the main point of SR3. There is also not one single fucking thing a new engine has to do with anything of that, and it should definitely not CUT BACK on things but rather develope it further. A new city is still a city as well so that has nothing to do with anything either. SR3 is a game that is all about doing whatever the fuck you want. So why the fuck can't I use the waterhose attached to my firetruck? GTA does it. By the way, I think SR3 is fantastic and haven't had any complaints about lacking content because I never got around to playing SR2 because it was horrible and boring.
My only other understand would be that Volition seems to have a fetish for killing off one major character in the Saints Row franchise. In Saints Row 1, [sp]Lin was locked in the trunk of a car that was dumped into the river.[/sp] In Saints Row 2, [sp]Carlos was brutally dragged around the street by his leg through a chain that was tied to a truck, resulting in the protagonist putting him out of his pain and suffering.[/sp] And now in the 3rd game, [sp]Johnny Gat being shot.[/sp] The only thing that annoys me was that it was off screen and he went out like a bitch.
And then [sp]we still don't know what ending is canon so you could add Shaundi to the dead pile.[/sp]
Would you guys recommend using keyboard or my ps3 controller for this?
It depends on what you like, just plug the controller in and switch back and forth any time though.
It'd be easier to make a list about what they aren't bitching about. - Customization sucks/isn't as good as SR2 (which I kinda agree with) - Activities being cut. - Diversions like paramedic being cut. - Too short. - Not enough weapons/most weapons suck. - No cutscene/missions replay that was available in the last two games (Which I have to agree with too) - No random stores to walk into like SR1 & SR2 (i.e. gas stations) - Lack of crib customization.
maybe these will be fixed in future DLC than people will just be complaining about DLC
Hm... finally got around to buying The Third after searching for a physical copy for a week. I can't even run it smoothly on the lowest possible settings, and the DX10/11 option just dies. I don't know whats wrong. :saddowns:
I do have to say that having a shorter campaign to rake in money from mission packs is a dick move. I'll likely still end up buying them (unlike most people I happen to have TO MUCH expendable income right now) but I think it's still a legitimate complaint. [sp]As for Gat's death, I do support the theory that he probably was going to come back later but the voice actor dropped out, leaving Volition to have to kill him off. Unfortunately, it's official so don't expect him to return un-zombified in 4.[/sp]
ATI card? If so, wait for a fix.
ATI released a driver patch today for ATI and SR3.

220m eh? Well that isn't exactly the most powerful card in the world. (Anything below 60 is meant for casual computer work rather than gaming) Still, you should be able to run it well on low I would presume. Got the latest beta driver? And what processor do you have?
My only logical understanding would be that the guy just didn't want to do any more Johnny Gat voice work and that maybe Volition managed to at least get him to do dialouge for the intro to at least explain [sp]his death.[/sp] The guy has been really busy doing other things after Saints Row 2: Lost G.I.
What about [sp]Julius in the second?[/sp]
That to, but I really wouldn't call that as an unfortunate loss. It was the story continuation to get revenge on the fucker who put you on the boat to die.
When you have the choice to [sp]blow up or save that building with the cloning facility I thought you were going to be able to make a Johnny Gat clone, but you didn't :([/sp]
There's an upcomming DLC called Trouble With Clones, [sp]and people are speculating that you will bring back Johnny.[/sp] It's unlikely, but I will be very pleased if it's true.
It's a shame they did not include a mission replay feature. Hopefully they add it in on an update. Hell, I'd be fine if the Saints find some sort of tech to revive him with. As long as he comes back somehow.[/sp]
I was about to complain about how most of the missions were just activities, but then [sp]stag came in[/sp]
Upgrading the 3 Count crib to the highest and jumping off, just as satisfying as jumping off the Saints HQ

How can you get the Shock Hammer? Besides cheating. I mean have it in your inventory.
Kill a Decker specialist. I just made it so that its a permanent melee weapon like the Penetrator.
ATI released a driver patch today for ATI and SR3.
Where's the patch? On the update site I only see one that was released on the 15th.

Saints Row came out in 06 but development for Saints Row 2 started in 05 that came out in 08, the same year SR3 started early development. So both games took 3 years to make but that does not mean all the resources went in the same place. Moving from SR1 to SR2 was most have been easy because on how many things were already in place. The city and its art style was clearly established so most of the map work was making it bigger and tweaking some old areas while leaving some identical to SR1 apart from new textures. Just look at SR1's and SR2's maps and you can see what they went so far as to leave the road layout almost the exact same saving a lot of time. Another thing is that the first 2 games share is style of play and structure of mechanics story and gameplay wise. These factors probably gave them plenty of time to work on building a bunch of new things to do. Then we reach SR3's development, a radical departure from the first 2. Respect is now tied to upgrades, taking over areas is now tied to buying buildings and doing activities, the art style is much more defined, and the story is now much more structured. All of these things must have taken time away from expanding the game itself. They could have easily kept SR in Stillwater and spent more time padding out the game but they didn't. To be perfectly honest I don't really consider SR3 a "true" sequel, to me its a re-boot. Its Volition's bid to make Saints Row a real name for itself because SR1/2's formula was just not cutting it. Lastly I have no idea if any of this could be true and I am not making excuses for the lack of content, merely providing a possible explanation as to why. The real test will be when SR4 comes around and how they handle making that game when it comes to content.
maybe these will be fixed in future DLC than people will just be complaining about DLC
I can't really complain about the DLC too much quite honestly. Volition and THQ took a massive punch to the nuts with Red Faction: Armageddon. The sales were so bad that the series ended up being completely canned.

Taking the elements and implementing it into the game isn't THAT hard. Not saying there isn't a lot of work to it, but it's really just a bunch of small stuff. There is also no reason to spend the same time on a sequel just for the sake of it. Make the game good, worry about time when the budget starts to tear. Armageddon was so inspirationless and bland in it's idea that whoever even came up with the plot should get fired and get castrated. DLC doesn't exactly make your game more attractive either. Especially not when you have 7 of them ON RELEASE. It says a lot about what to expect from the game.
Made my new female character. Russian voice is great and fits perfect:

Armageddon was trying to go back to RF's original linear gameplay style. Sure, it didn't work out but it wasn't a horrendous game. Its just that idea of fighting alien insects wasn't fun. That's what made Armageddon fail. And 7? Buddy, there's only 2. EDIT: And there's a 40 week thing of DLC releasing next week.
Make the game good, worry about time when the budget starts to tear.
And this is the big problem. THQ could have been putting a lot of pressure on them to get it out in time for the holidays and before GTAV hit so the extra side stuff got the short end. However, now that Red Faction is dead that frees up more people to work on SR4 and with the ground work already built SR4 could be a truly massive game.
