It states you need a new game to experience the unlocks from activities and such.

It doesn't say that. What it actually says is:

And that is still correct. You miss out on:
* Unlimited ammo unlocks for flamethrower, fire extinguisher, minigun, rockets, and thrown ammo from Barnstorming
* Post game gang control
* Carlos homie
* Aisha homie
* Unlockable outfits (unless you use the open version)
Everything else can be worked around, as you say. Either by installing the open version, or buying the weapons at friendly fire after completing the game. I think the readme is fine the way it is.

What does this mean?
So when I first installed this game on my new computer I accidentally used the Open version of the 1.8 GOTR mod, and didn't figure it out until I had Infinite Respect from driving on the wrong side of the road (which happens pretty often so it wasn't like it took me a while). I thought I had fixed it but when I started another new game I still kept getting infinite respect for driving on the other side of the road despite the prices being normal like in the regular version. And even worse, the game won't give me any credit for any stunts I do, so I can't complete any Combat Tricks which means I can't unlock the AR50 Launcher Rifle. I'm reinstalling the whole game and re-adding the regular version of GOTR to see if that fixes anything...

I expected it to be a very short, 2 second clip of something funny. The game is meant to be humorous, and what is more humorous than an anti-climatic shot to the nuts.

Okay, I'm still not getting credit for any stunts or tricks I do, even after reinstalling SR2 and GOTR. Thankfully the Infinite Respect thing got stomped, though. Any help would be nice.

Something weird happened, because open should not do that at all. Sounds like something happened to your save file. Use an earlier save, or start a new game. If that doesn't work try deleting profile.dat in your saves directory that tracks all your stats across all characters.

Okay. Wasn't that far into the game anyways. I'll check to see if that works and report back in, let's say, an hour.

I am getting unlockable outfits though.
