die
Aaand... wah?
I hear Flash 11 has Hardware acceleration.
99% sure that Binding of Isaac uses a self-contained flash.
After playing this, I have developed a habit of playing every game I own iron-man style. Highest difficulty, no saves, no reloads. Once you die, either go back to start or go do something else. Saints row 2 was failed almost instantly thanks to a burning car and a lack of water.
Aaand... wah?
It's not a roguelike, I wish people would stop using that term so indiscriminately. [editline]11th October 2011[/editline] It's not even sort-of a roguelike. I don't get why McMillen called it one. [editline]11th October 2011[/editline] Wait, yes I do. It was to get roguelike-players to buy the game. Well it worked, obviously, since I did.
Which of the following can The Binding of Isaac most closely be considered? A) FPS B) MMO C) Roguelike D) RPG Did you answer C? Oh you did? Well in that case feel free to say it's a roguelike when trying to describe the game simply.
Which of the following can The Binding of Isaac most closely be considered? A) FPS B) MMO C) Roguelike D) RPG Did you answer C? Oh you did? Well in that case feel free to say it's a roguelike when trying to describe the game simply.
Because those are the only four genres to ever exist. And it's not even similar to a roguelike. Randomization =/= roguelike. People that have this notion have never played an actual roguelike.
So it doesn't have turn-based movement which instantly disqualifies it as a roguelike? All you've been doing is telling people that are categorizing it as a roguelike to "die", while providing no arguments except for "Randomization =/= roguelike" and giving us no clue as to what it's supposed to be called in your eyes.
A roguelike is a game that's LIKE ROGUE. Thus roguelike. In other words, it's about traversing numerous randomly generated dungeons, with turn-based gameplay and permadeath. That turn-based gameplay is rather integral. Would you say Civilization is an RTS? Would you say, I dunno, Ace Combat is an FPS because you shoot enemies from a first-person (cockpit) point of view? Roguelike is an over-used buzzword. Soon enough it's going to have as little meaning as "Action Adventure."
I bet you £5 he has either excessive body hair or odour.
Oh, ad hominem attacks. I am utterly defeated. (I'll take those £5 by the way.)
The Binding of Isaac is NOT a roguelike, though it has a few roguelike aspects (randomized rooms, permadeath).

And since the biggest thing about Roguelikes is that they are Randomized dungeon dives. Much like BoI is.
It's a GREAT game but it's made on Flash :(
So? Nothing wrong with flash, fool
It's not a roguelike, I wish people would stop using that term so indiscriminately. [editline]11th October 2011[/editline] It's not even sort-of a roguelike. [editline]11th October 2011[/editline]
Which of the following can The Binding of Isaac most closely be considered? A) FPS B) MMO C) Roguelike D) RPG Did you answer C? So double stupid. [editline]11th October 2011[/editline]
So? Nothing wrong with flash, fool
Yes there is, it runs like shit and it controls almost like shit. Or maybe the programmer sucked.
Actually it was the spelling.
Oh, ha, well that too.
Yes there is, it runs like shit and it controls almost like shit. Or maybe the programmer sucked.
The programmer ALSO made Super meat boy. Which is one of the most responsive platformers I had the pleasure of playing. All of McMillans games are well programmed with none to few bugs.
The programmer ALSO made Super meat boy. Which is one of the most responsive platformers I had the pleasure of playing. All of McMillans games are well programmed with none to few bugs.
Except this one.
The programmer ALSO made Super meat boy. Which is one of the most responsive platformers I had the pleasure of playing. All of McMillans games are well programmed with none to few bugs.
yeah right, smb got a tonne of patches on steam to fix bugs you could fall through the floor and shit like that and it wasn't programmed in flash and to claim that it has few bugs doesn't mean much when they're all game-breaking like a save file being deleted, rooms generating with exits only accessible through bombing boulders and being thrown out of the room in addition the low graphics version of super meat bot still lagged on bad computers and considering it's a 2d platformer it really shouldn't. so it's not very well-optimized and i wouldn't be surprised if the lag in this game was caused by poor programming as well
yeah right, smb got a tonne of patches on steam to fix bugs you could fall through the floor and shit like that and it wasn't programmed in flash
Woops hyperbole. Anyways Mcmillan is quite a great programmer when it comes to 2d fare.
Woops hyperbole. Anyways Mcmillan is quite a great programmer when it comes to 2d fare.
lol, you don't even know who programmed it now that i think about it, the programmer for this game didn't work on smb
got another one
How have you people not worked out yet that Edmund McMillen is an artist, not a programmer? Florian Himsl was the programmer for Isaac and Coil, Tommy Refenes for SMB, Tyler Glaiel for Aether and he was in the Cryptic Sea team for Gish.
NOO My mom killed me again! This game makes me angry! But its one of the best games i´ve ever played! I love McMillen for making such awesome games! :3

Mind if I steal for my avatar?
Mind if I steal for my avatar?
Generally, based on what I've seen so far, people only post multiple avatars like that if they're okay with people using them
Generally, based on what I've seen so far, people only post multiple avatars like that if they're okay with people using them
Yeah but hurting doesn't ask, I'll use it and switch if he doesn't want me to.
Still, asking like that is quite polite, which is great, so keep up the kind stuff :3
Mind if I steal for my avatar?
Sure, made them for people to use. :v:
No, I just found several dollar items in the same run and used the slot machines over and over again.
Not to be a dick but not buying it, it's pretty impossible believe that you can get that much in a run and have -that- much luck winning, if you cheated hey it's fine but don't pretend it's luck that you won every time and never failed or whatever. It's just rediculous
Beat the game and got the message "A Cross has appeared in the basement." What is the Cross? I can't find it on the wiki. Never mind, turns out the item is called The Relic.
Actually it was the spelling.
The spelling really confuses me, here we spell Rogue like that for some reason.
