I don't know about that. I've made it to at least round 22-25 on Ascension/Kino Der Toten just playing out casually without any traps. But I do agree that it gets insanely hard at the later rounds, even with the Ray Gun/Thundergun.
Just got round 17 by myself in kino, couldn't be arsed anymore so I just killed myself, I tink if I really went on properly, was fully awake and was in the mood I could get round 35 easy

Moon has to be one of the hardest maps to play in, seriously. Especially with the 4 player easter egg; I want to do them ALONE :v:

I managed to get juggernaught and packapunch before round 1, not worth it at all - once you run out of bullets and 'nades you have to slowly inch up the scoreboard 10 points at a time with your knife.
Moons easter egg was nothing compared to Shangri-La's

Maxis anticipated this before he died (or didn't die, we don't know if he's still alive) and set up a fail-safe: nuke Earth in the event of Richtofen taking control.
