Well isnt that kinda the point? BF3 just an updated version of BF2. Its the same but better graphics.
Skyrim is just an updated version of Oblivion and so on and so on. Why would IW change the succesful formula and the reliable engine when people got so pissed off when Treyarch made a balanced COD for a change.

Skyrim looks nothing like Oblivion and BF3 looks nothing like BF2. They are on different engines completely.

To be fair, this CoD seems to me like it's taking the series in a different direction- It's not similar to the first MW, not at all, but it's trying to give more focus to players who want to support and help their team, not just to gung-ho lone wolves who end up not helping you at all.
To be unfair, If I buy this, it won't keep me playing for long. A week is probably a right estimate. I just don't like it really.

Skyrim looks exactly like Oblivion, but with better graphics and a dragon flying around. It also has a shiny ingame map made of STARS.
BF3 is the same as BF2. Only the engine is different. The core gameplay is exactly the same, recycled and overhyped, graphics whoring and [B]no mod tools.
