How exactly is Black Ops a big failure?
Because it just was! The campaign was absolutely terrible, and the multilayer just didn't feel right! The ONLY thing that was actually fun was the custom titles and the Zombies Game mode. Plus it was wasn't made by Infinity Ward. Activision STOLE the Modern Warfare 1 engine from Infinity Ward and gave it to Treyarch so they would make more money! That's why the original creators left!
Black Ops is a big failure. And I'm worried that MW3 is going to fail because the original owners of Infinity Ward left. Homefront isn't THAT bad. I do prefer Bad Company 2 over it but it's still fun to play every now and then.
It was a decent game but just not as great as the MW series, good ideas, just not as fun...

The campaign is the best part of the CoD games. Even in black ops. I don't see how it was remotely terrible..

it was different from the good campaigns of MW, not necessarily bad, i enjoyed it.

I don't think you know anything about why the Infinity Ward execs left. By the way they were fired, they didn't leave of their own accord.
The execs claimed that Activision owed them some royalties for MW2, and Activision denied it. Then they claimed that the execs of Infinity Ward were working with EA and actively made MW2 unbalanced and shitty to sabotage the company. Then, for some odd reason, the Infinity Ward execs made a new company after being fired and signed up with EA, which strengthened the claims. They also added 'Fraud' to the charges against Activision for some reason.
The court case is ongoing, but yeah. Black Ops had absolutely nothing to do with it.
The Single Player was actually good and had a lot of depth and a legitimate twist, especially if you read the computer files in the main menu. Activision already had the rights to the Modern Warfare Engine, and Treyarch has always used the most current engine in their games, so I severely doubt Activision/Treyarch 'stole' anything. The rest of that is personal opinion, frankly. Black Ops broke a lot of records, and is definitely a huge success for Activision, financially and commercially.
Story wise.
I found the blops story-line much more engaging an unique then mw2's campaign, which in contrast seemed really overdone and stupidly over-complicated.

Although it's a case of did they jump, were they pushed or did they try to get pushed. Kotick said that he wanted to take all the fun out of making games (just after he mentioned burning puppies and resurrecting hitler) and so it's reasonable to assume they wanted out. You're right that Black Ops has nothing to do with it though.

Bobby Kotick says a lot of things. He hardly ever acts on what he says though, or he makes it seem worse than what he actually means. When he mentioned a paid service for MW3 everyone freaked out, but it's turning out that it's really not even remotely a big deal, and it just sounded bad when he said it.

Activision claims that they wanted out and were conspiring with EA which is a huge breach of contract, hence the lawsuit.

I've been keeping track of the whole IWvsActivision mess and while both parties are keeping quiet about it (for understandable reasons, given the pending court case), it's pretty clear that Infinity Ward's bad blood with Activision had been building up for some time before it spilled over publicly.
IW originally was dead set against Call of Duty 2 (yeah. 2) being set in World War II, but Activision pulled out a bunch of market research and statistics showing that military shooters from other eras didn't sell nearly as well, and were willing to give them console dev kits in exchange for keeping CoD2 in WWII. Activision also tried to keep Call of Duty 4 in WWII fearing poorer sales, but eventually allowed IW to move it into the modern day. Then when CoD4 turned out to be a wild success, Activision wanted another Modern Warfare game made immediately. Which was not something Infinity Ward was interested in (around that time there were a few rumors that IW wanted to make a sci-fi shooter not related to CoD).
Another thing that becomes clear if you read between the lines: IW hated hated HATED Activision farming out the Call of Duty franchise to Treyarch. If you look into the files of CoD4 there's a lot of references to it being CoD3. The Call of Duty 3 that was released was a console-only game done by Treyarch and was seen as quite mediocre and virtually forgotten about today. Part of the reason IW did Modern Warfare 2 was to secure their full rights to the Modern Warfare brand. IW had plenty of motivation to try and keep the Modern Warfare franchise from being farmed out and resulting in another CoD3 as this was happening while Treyarch was making World at War and Activision had announced their intent to release a Call of Duty game yearly.
There was quite a few public squabbles between IW and Activision leading up to MW2's release. Like the game originally just being named "Modern Warfare 2", Activision's logo being off the initial box art and off the game's introductory screens. But right when it all hit the fan, there was rumors that Infinity Ward's employees hadn't see a dime from MW2's then-record breaking sales, and that the employees were traditionally paid low wages but very generous bonuses upon releasing a game. Bonuses Activision was now withholding. No surprise that most of IW's employees walked out with that in mind.
For an extra dose of irony, keep in mind that Infinity Ward was originally established by developers from 2015, Inc, who made Medal or Honor: Allied Assault over a decade ago.
Remember how EA treated the Medal of Honor franchise before rebooting it?

Speaking of Kotick when did he leave activision? The new ceo seems like a much less evil eprson.
snip pointless post
you dont go to youtube much do you?
I dislike Black Ops' final killstreaks; except for Attack Dogs. They're all spawn-killing related things; and most of the time; they're either collected by luck or just plain out camping a spot until you get them.

Basically Activision wants money

I don't even think attack dogs are that good. I don't find camping in BO anywhere near as bad as MW2 where you could literally end the game without moving (providing you got 7 kills)
I'm so sick and tired of the fucking insta rank 70 games in MW2. After the last one I joined, I prestiged and started over so I could get everything legitimately. I join a fucking hacked game and am now rank 70.
I wish they still said "daily xp boost active" when you joined them.

er no, black ops's campaign was horrible
I played through it, it seemed like a bunch of shitty vignettes glued together with shitty scripting and full of fucking anachronisms (which may not bother most of you who lack music and gun history knowledge, but it did bother me)
I found the blops story-line much more engaging an unique then mw2's campaign, which in contrast seemed really overdone and stupidly over-complicated.

unique? obviously you've never read the reams of cold-war thriller novels out there
I swear Mason could just be an amalgamation of the protagonists from those books...
especially with that Reznov crap, I saw that coming from the fucking Vorkuta mission. "omfg this guy has seen so much war he starts hallucinating and creating characters in his mind"... totally original
not to mention the entire campaign was unpolished as shit and full of bugs, I remember AH-1 gunships flying and clipping through the first-story floors of some buildings when I called them in.
fucking anachronisms
My dad [Sub operator during 'Nam] saw me play campaign. He was bringing laundry down to the laundry room and stopped.
"Is that Ruskie using a fucking Famas?"
I turned around, with a sad face
"Unfortunately, yes"
He paused for a straight 10 seconds
"Why did I let you buy that"
I agree :v:

you know fortunate son was released in september 1969, but it plays in a mission set in 1968

also apparently treyarch forgot that the 74 part of the AK74's name stands for 1974
disappointed to hear that the M14 in mw3 is unlocked at 60, it being the only sem-auto Assualt Rifle.
just recently became my favorite weapon in blops, and now that there's more reasons to prestige, I'll be seeing a lot of 60 level intervals of not having it

Are you seriously comparing a cod campaign to actual novels?...
It was a fairly amusing storyline considering it's coming from a game designed for idiots.
I disliked mw2's campaign because of all the (IMO) pointless things that were just there as set-pieces.
I play CoD campaigns like extended tutorials. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy parts of them, but by and large I generally finish them without caring about the characters or exposition.
Ok, I'm not on to something. Just gonna prestige again and start over.....again.... This time I'll make regular backups of the folders.
What I don't understand though, is why does MW2 make some sort of backup of your stats after every rank up, but you can't do anything with them?
[editline]...[/editline]
Now I just don't feel like playing anymore.
Wow, why are you whining so hard? Like, Jesus Christ, it's not that hard to get back up to 70. I've been playing MW2 on and off for the past three days and I'm level 54. I get that it's kind of a pain in the ass, but hey, at least you get a new custom class (maybe) and a new title. It's not a huge deal.

erm yeah there are a lot of crap novels out there
just like there are a lot of crap SP campaigns that are just there to "complete" the game.
and I would say blops has an equal amount (or even more) set-pieces, they're just stringed together through hallucinations and a really paper-thin plot.

exactly, I find *some* parts enjoyable, but the characters and exposition really are shit for the most part, since W@W/CoD4
Ironically, the CoD games with the best singleplayer experience are the most overlooked ones, probably because they didn't come to PC. Big Red One and Call of Duty 3 both had campaigns that focused on a small group of named characters that stayed relevant through the entire storyline. You really got attached to those people. The part in CoD3, half way through the game where your sergeant just snaps and starts giving suicidal orders was actually really cool because you notice him as a human, not as a bunch of polygons with a voice steering you to the next checkpoint.

Especially if you're playing with at least 1 friend, it's just so much fun you don't realize you're leveling up, i went from lvl 33 on 3rd prestige to lvl 27, 4th prestige in a couple of weeks of playing with one of my buddies.
