I find myself drawn to Rikimaru, but I'm trying to get better with different heroes. I like Faceless Void, but I kind of suck with him. And Dark Seer is really cool (he's very punny), and I'm probably second best with him. Not that that's saying much.

This is so untrue it hurts, carrying and supporting are 2 different things that can't be compared to each other and both of them need a high amount of skill level.

As a carry player myself, I'd rather have a good carry player on my team than a good support. Because carrying makes the game and you need really great map awareness so you don't die and need to plan ahead every time, if you die it sets you back so much.

Saying carrying doesn't require that much skill is stupid, when I play carry it is more tiring than playing a support, I need to focus the entire game because of last hitting, denying, creep camps, ganking, being ganked and stuff like that.

You also need to consider a simple fact, you are a carry so you farm the whole early to mid game and only help your team if it is efficient for you. I have won many games where the enemy team were killing my friends so freaking much it wasn't even funny, but at the end we won because I just overfarmed myself and killed them all.

A good support is nice, but not that important as a good carry. And carrying isn't easy, in the OP there is a very long article which sums up some of my things and much more.

Are you going for support or carry Slardar?

I build my carry Slardar like this, Power Threads -> Armlet -> Black King Bar -> Desolator/Helm of Dominator -> Assault Cuirass -> Heart of Tarrasque -> Satanic if you went HoD instead of Desolator.

Of course a lot of depends on the situation, I sometimes go for Helm of Dominator earlier than Black King Bar or I go for early Satanic instead of Heart of Tarrasque.

Support/Initiation Slardar: This is kind of tricky because I don't play him that often, Power Threads -> Vanguard -> Blink Dagger -> Black King Bar -> Desolator/Assault Cuirass -> Heart of Tarrasque instead of Vanguard. The point in this build is that you need to be tanky early on and in the mid game you start fights with your Blink Dagger + Slithereen Crush combo. Black King Bar makes you an unstoppable force for 5 seconds at the minimum BKB level. Desolator/Assault Cuirass helps you and your team by a ton in late game because with your Ultimate + Desolator + Assault Cuirass you can take down heroes extremely easy even if they are really tanky like Pudge or Dragon Knight.

Hmmm... Have you asked the team to stick together maybe?

If you get ganked because you're alone, try stay with a team mate or extra. Ganks tend to happen on lone targets. If you are alone because you are farming, pushing or what ever it is, try not to stick around for long, go for about 2-3 minutes.

Also, if possible, treat the opposing team's jungle the same way. Good teams tend to have wards in them, as well as along the river. Especially when shifting lanes, try your best to keep off the river, even when going to roam/gank.

As a character with an invisibility ability like Riki, Broodmother or Bounty Hunter, despite your invisibility, take caution like as though you were never invisible, because if it turns out they can see you and that you unaware of it, you pretty much become a quick snack.

Nah I was Drow and got shit early farm because the enemy bounty hunter was being a cunt despite being 2v1 with 2 ranged, it was really said, said BH would later hunt me the rest of the game regardless of where I farmed, I was quite the easy kill. I was like 10 steps from the second top tower and I got killed regardless. It was just a shitty situation over all with a team full of <foreign people who couldnt speak english>
