Finally found the dota 2 thread, I like this game but after playing a lot of Heroes of Newerth before I even knew about Dota2 the heroes movement in Dota2 feels odd.
In HoN they just move so smoothly and for some reason it doesn't feel like that in Dota2.
Also, does anyone know how the match finding system works? Because sometimes we get stomped to eternity and sometimes we stomp the enemy team, I got some ridiculous stats as venomancer once even though one on our team left.
I'm pretty sure there's some hidden Elo system

There is. Some people won a bunch their first matches in a row and got such a high Elo rating, that their queue took a very long time to patch through. After writing on the dev forums, a guy from Valve said he could get their Elo back down to a reasonable amount, thereby proving that there's at least some sort of ranking system.

Did the "guy from Valve" specifically use the word Elo?
best ES EU, they raxed 2 of our lanes and won early, mid but started losing actual teamfights mid-late and the only reason they were able to rax us is because they had so much damage

You could see the rating in console for a time, it was called Matchmaking Rating, however seeing how it worked it's pretty obvious that it uses the Elo system with a different starting value based on the initial skill selection you picked. Most games use it now for some reason, just under differents (True Skill Rating, Elo, MMR, PSR, etc, it's all the same shit, just different starting values + K factors)

None of them have a BKB, retards. They could have clearly won if Brood, Nai'x and Mirana had BKB.

Should play Veno more often
tiny with 3 boots
Yeah, I know tiny and dragon, Tiny were so proud when he realized that buying more boots will make you faster,
until I told him they don't stack. But thats what I mean with unbalanced teams, I am not good at Dota2, I was decent at HoN and if I manage to get stats like that.
It's like playing against bots, that Juggernaut didn't know that bladespin made him magic immune and Bountyhunter didn't go invisible until he was near death at which point my ulti and passive just tore him apart anyway.
Thats why I think there should be a "skill" determining system, even though they are pretty inaccurate, they are more accurate than just make 2 entirely random teams.

Matchmaking ratings in games like these are always done the same way.

Brood was like "BKB is too easy to win with" and we do have faceless void to ult when they BKB

I just realized I probably have easily over 1000 games... maybe 2000 of "MOBA"s. I mean in a week or so I've played 50 dota 2 games. I played at least 100 HoN games probably, 200-500+ LoL games easy, and I played DotA consistently for like a year+... and yet I'm still not amazing haha. Probably because most of my DotA games were -em :( I was a em baby
I think its a waste on pretty much everyone. Is there even a single hero that regularly picks it up?
Pugna/Oblivion could. Skill ether form.
Just got 2 kills at the enemy spawn from mine with ancient apparition's ult
V:v:V
yo nignogs i got an issue
i can't recognize when my team has a good comp / not a good comp cause i don't know the heroes that much

Why can't people get this.
If enemies have AA, do weird shit, like going back to farm on minimal HP or looking closely at tree texture. If he sees you on low HP and retreating somewhat close to spawn/with TP scroll he will cast his ult, no exceptions.

If you are just pubbing, screw it. I saw 5 carry teams win (and not even AM/Void teams).
Otherwise, play games and learn who can do what. Roles are semi-flexible sometimes.
This happens to me FAR too often.

earthshaker with bkb/scepter blinking into enemy team and ulting

It's so annoying, and even if you don't click on the minimap there's goddamn times where you turn around and run the wrong way.
Should be able to disable that minimap clicking.
I thought I was the only one who experienced that problem with the giant minimap+hud
Anyone up for a DotA game?
Except for int treads
Why do you all yell at int treads ? Are they that bad ?

I don't think the mana gained is worth it over the health from str/damage and as from agi
[editline]9th January 2012[/editline]
dont take my word on it though because I suck
The stat threads in dota2 are horrible compared to HoN, the colour is way more subtle, the stat rotation is reversed and the effects on health and mana are slightly different. I used to switch to agi whenever I took a bottle sip and then back to str/int for maximum health gain, and while it works in dota too I somehow find switching boots way more iffy.

Please don't start it.
