Actually, they won, alright lost nearly all of First Company and too kthem centuries to rebuild it, but they won in the end.
They did, but when you consider the odds and what they lost, it was more a victory for the nids. Calgar almost died, and they were fighting on their central planet, one they knew very well. And almost lost it.
Hive fleet behemoth for new 40k poster boys.
If anyone, Kult of Speed Orks should be dem poster boyz. Sturnn from Winter Assault should become a fluff character.
If anyone, Kult of Speed Orks should be dem poster boyz. Sturnn from Winter Assault should become a fluff character.
Lies, all lies. Nids got the closest to Terra, so that means they win.
Lies, all lies. Nids got the closest to Terra, so that means they win.
Although I don't know to much about Nids but Necrons made it to Mars so I think they got closer.
Lies, all lies. Nids got the closest to Terra, so that means they win.
Didn't Chaos get closest to Terra, because they were, you know, on the surface during the Horus Heresy?
Although I don't know to much about Nids but Necrons made it to Mars so I think they got closer.
Void dragon is the Imperium's bitch, so that doesn't really count. [editline]8th June 2011[/editline]
Didn't Chaos get closest to Terra, because they were, you know, on the surface during the Horus Heresy?
That was ancient history. The eldar were on Earth in ancient times I believe, so they predate them all. [editline]8th June 2011[/editline] Oh, sorry, I meant "Terra".
As far as the Fluff is concerned the Ultramarine Primarch wrote the Space Marine Codex (or at least stuff that became the Codex) So basically the Ultramarines are the super generic marines as their Codex would just be he space marine Codex. Hell they are pretty much used to advertise anything new that the Space marines get their hands on. "We here at GW are pushing the boundaries of modern future fantasy all the time. We've just invented a new fictional device that is powered by even more crazy sounding technobabble!" "Presenting the Phase Quantum Bolter!" *Cue picture of some kind of unnecessarily complex shit* "It uses die mould casting resin techniques to give it that beautiful textured finish. (IN flufl) It uses crystalline harmonising lattices to accelerate a quantum wavelength prohibitor at sub baric trajectories!" "But don't take our word for it! Let our boys in blue show ya how it's done!" *Cue and ultramarine hold some bullshit smooth, rounded looking gun that looks like it just fell out of some shitty Star Trek episode.* Marine:"Fluff wise, this weapon was found in some hidden archive on Ultramar along with blueprints so we can make EVERY weapon look like this metallic turd! As for it's use for your armies, it's got a special stat that when under X condition it's overpowered as all fuck and under Y condition it can win a game single-handedly! Not only will this weapon fuck over the WH40K theme but in the process unbalance the game horrendously!" GW Rep:" That's right, some brand new game breaking bullshit only for the low low cost of £3.50 PER weapon! Or you can buy one of our new crapsticast model units allready with the weapon for twice as much as our old, good looking metal ones." "Order now!" ..... I did not expect that to turn into some kind of rant.
Once upon a time there was a young race named Tau, who came under attack from the evil space bugs called the Tyranids. While the Tau fought bravely against the Tyranids, they were not able to defeat them, until the fleet of another race, the Necrons, arrived and destroyed the Tyranid fleet, saving the Tau. The Tau were so happy over this aid that they invited the Necrons to a celebration in honor of their bravery. The Necrons landed and everyone died. The end. Completely unrelated, but I love that story. I should tell it to small children at book stores.

Also, if you get dead air on your invitation to the celebration, you should assume there's a serial killer on the other end. [editline]8th June 2011[/editline] Or an asthmatic obsessed with death.

An entire hive fleet got shattered, what more do you want?
And they got stomped by the 'nids on their own planet. Nids: 1 Ultramarines: 0 [editline]8th June 2011[/editline] That's what first comes to mind when I think of Ultramarines.
Yeah and that took over twenty years of Ultrasmurf counter-rapeage to happen, and only after GW was finally let out of their ivory tower and realized most people hate the ultramarines for the reason 10 years old boys love them.
entire hive fleet got shattered
That was the previous encounter. The current one result in a nid splinter loss with the remainder of the Tendril completely enveloping the entire system. The Ultrasmurfs don't bug out right now, they're fucked. Literally. Until the inevitable super retcon victory. They can't even contact Terra anymore.
I've been wondering...how exactly are Bolters meant to fire? Are they supposed to be single shot slow firing like in Firewarrior, or are they supposed to be more like the ones in that trailer or the space marine trailers?
The Fire Warrior game is the most accurate portrayal of bolters thus far. Bang Bang Bang. Dead Dead Dead. Dawn of War 1 portrayed them as Sub-Machine Guns, Dawn of War II is more accurate but they're still not powerful enough. Also, fuck the Ultramarines. Imperial Fists all the way :science:
I think there will be skins DLC's.
I want to see a game like Mount and Blade in the 40K universe. But with less overworld and lager maps.

Imperial Fists all the way :science:
Dawn of war 2 is pretty much the most accurate, or do you want bolters to be burst fire? If that's not enough, in game the Apothecary's master-crafted bolter Full-Auto ability shows the best example of what you're looking for.
bolters are burst fire
I think they can do all types of fire, but I'm talking in terms of raw power (and sound), Fire Warrior had the best interpretation.
I want to pre order so bad, but I don't want to get the PC or Xbox versions in case one of them blows ass.
I think they can do all types of fire, but I'm talking in terms of raw power (and sound), Fire Warrior had the best interpretation.
Are you sure? The bolter functioned like a grenade launcher in Fire Warrior. :v:
Guys, I've got an idea. How about we exterminate all blue paint that GW is selling? That way there's no more Ultramarines. [editline]8th June 2011[/editline]
Are you sure? The bolter functioned like a grenade launcher in Fire Warrior. :v:
It does fire MINI-MISSILES. They are supposed to explode on contact.
So can Bolters fire on fire-auto like in the Space marine and DMO trailers? In terms of firepower Firewarrior did get that right.
Guys, I've got an idea. How about we exterminate all blue paint that GW is selling? That way there's no more Ultramarines. [editline]8th June 2011[/editline] It does fire MINI-MISSILES. They are supposed to explode on contact.
I paint my lenses with blue, fuck you
I paint my lenses with blue, fuck you
Red is more badass.
Red is more badass.
Red goes fastah. :v:
And it depends on what you are painting. Blood Angels with Red lenses look pretty cheap, while Grey Knights with Blue lenses look awesome.
But they held it, which was the difference between victory and defeat. An entire hive fleet got shattered, what more do you want?
Thing is, space marines are (almost?) impossible to replace, while Tyranids are a dime a dozen. For all we know, Behemoth was 0.01% of the Tyranid race, while the Ultramarines that died on Ultramar were like half of the chapter. Did they save the galaxy? Yes. Did they get totally fucked as a result? Yes. Behemoth for president.
Almost impossible to replace? Space marine chapters have more recruiting worlds than you think.
I was under the impression that first-grade space marines like the Ultramarines weren't very easy to replace. And considering how they're all genetic supermen, I can't imagine it being very cost-effective to replace half a chapter.
[editline]8th June 2011[/editline] It does fire MINI-MISSILES. Not impossible to replace, but just takes a long time.
