Why the heck do people keep thinking SM is similar to GOW? they're completely different, it pisses me off after trying the demo out, they share so very little similarities. What do they even have in common? All I can think of is the weapon selection.
The camera and the animations are what you'd expect from a third person action game, that's like saying sc2 and supcom2 are similar just because they're rts, jesus christ.
(Yes that's what one of my friends told to me when I asked him where does he find the similarities)
Big bulky characters, maybe? I mean I like both games since they're fun as shit, but they do look similar to someone who hasn't played either.
Anyway, for those of you that haven't seen it, here's Gametrailers review of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine.

It's fucking hilarious. Since Space marine is like "Fuck cover" and Gears of war is "COVER!!!"

I never really played GOW, but are their Characters "Wearing armor they can't physically fit in" kind of bulky?

Bulletstorm didn't get as compared with GoW and it featured bulky characters. I'd really be disappointed if people pass on this game solely because they think it's similar to GoW at first glance.
And basically what the guy above me said

Only just started watching but at one point you fight an ork in what looks like Warboss gear.
yesss
Also Hammer and jump pack combo. Come at me xeno.
No one else is having problems with the demo? I reinstalled, tried updating my video drivers, verified the cache some more, but its still not working at all.
Finished the demo, it's so awesome. The ork voices didn't bother me much but I really liked retrbution's ork voices.
I found the Power axe after I finished the ork horde :v:
The demo is awesome. I really can't wait for this now. Going to Preorder soon.
Sounds like some sort of Fall I remember reading about, is all.
Actually sounds a lot more like the butlerian Djihad.
You know the thing that happened in the past of a book series that happened to have an immortal emperor, similar quasi religious overtones, deathworlders..need I continue?
It's pretty well known that wh40k was inspired by a number of sources, dune being one of the more major ones.

"experimental device"
ARGH
Actually it might not be a problem, depending on how it's handled in the story. An experimental device can exist, but it's forbidden and heretical, so if you do obtain it, you better destroy it (this also means that a lot of the leadership of that world is involved with it and has to be purged too).
The admech rolls out new stuff all the time. It just depends on how deviant of STC templates they are to be considered heretical. Usually the routine is of experimental devices is arguing that it will be found in a future STC, so it's completely fine.
Plus in some cases, it's not always what's older is better in the imperium. Modern capital warships for instance tend to have far better configurations (or more suited to the task) than older ones so tend to actually supplant them in fleets.

WTF is warhammer 40.000 Space marine? By Totalbiscuit
Dat nerdgasm.
Anyways, the demo pretty much convinced me to preorder the game, it was amazing.
I'm going to preorder but I don't know where to preorder from because of the all the extra shit they're giving out. Contemplating Gamestop since I love the Space Wolves so much.

Did anyone look at the link? I wasn't implying that 40k was inspired by other material, I was saying that the whole Men of Iron incident in the Imperium's history is comparable to the Fall of the Eldar, albeit on a much smaller scale.
Well, it looks like Space Marine is pulling in a lot of people new to 40k
It's doing its job quite well
I never really played GOW, but are their Characters "Wearing armor they can't physically fit in" kind of bulky?
Not really, they just look like gigantic marines
anyone else use the Stalker Pattern Bolter as a "shotgun" of sorts in the demo?
Can't wait until the demo is released to the Xbox EU. As of now, I couldn't find it.
Started playing warhammer retribuntion...
I'm lovin' it :)

Oh wow...Earthshaker emplacements..Basilisks...Chimeras...Valkyries. I am happy.
my friend has been trying to get me into warhammer for an age now,(both the 40k and the old style one) and if i'm honest i have wanted to get into this aswell
but there is so much stuff that i don't even know where to start anymore
i've read one of the books my mate gave me (titanicus, or something equally as epic sounding)
but just from that i found it all a bit confusing, so where should one such as myself start? with one of the dawn of war games
The Horus Heresy books.

There is a HUGE amount of stuff, which is part of what makes W40K great. Try Dawn of War 1, it might explain a few things. Other than that just read some of the novels.
If you really want to know about W40K you should start the TableTop game, although it is VERY expensive, but it's the best way really if you can afford it. If you live anywhere near nottingham i would recommend going to Warhammer World (GW HQ) if you want to see what the TableTop version is like.
I wouldn't advise playing it over and over again too much, you might ruin the hype for the game.

Yes they would, but that doesn't fit in with the style of gameplay.

i can ask my friend for his copy of dawn of war 1-2, he would be overjoyed to let me play them so that's ok
and all righty then i'll have a look at some of the books
would FP care to share what they think i should go with first?
(also on a unrelated note another friend sitting next to me saw the word tabletop game and just shouted out "Nerds" guess it's love or hate with this kinda thing :v:)
Holy fuck the aspect ratio options in the Space Marine demo are insane!

It's future proofing so when the 41st millennium rolls around real Space Marines can play it on the side of a Thunderhawk.
