I hate people like that.
Anyway, i'm not sure whats came out in the past few years but the Ciaphas Cain series is great. Storm is Iron is also a great book.

nothing he would say to my face.

what is that?
I think the best way to get into 40k is read the newest rulebook, then a couple codexes that seem to interest you. That will get you a good bit of background fluff and you have some knowledge where to continue.
TT = Table top, the thing that started it all.
Tabletop game where you make/paint your own army and then battle other peoples army, the thing that actually is W40K unlike all the games which are just set in the W40K universe.

yes, but if it's exspensive like you say then i don't think i should build one myself :v:
but to paint and meticulously place each one on my mates highly detailed tabletop with my other friends that enjoy warhammer
yeah that sounds like great fun

Only way to get an army is to build one really. It's about £20 for a squad/tank and depending on the size of battle you want you might need a few. So about £100 - £200 for a basic army, depending on what race you choose, and then you need the rulebooks, paints etc.
Is there any other working download for the demo? Clicked the download demo on steam about 6 hours ago, left for school, came back, and it didn't give me a prompt to download the file.
:(

200 pound is like 1200 local currency around here.
That is so much money over here. Goddamn you countries and your strong currencies.
Speaking of which: I might start playing again (TT), this time as Death Korps.
Either that, or Chaos.
Anyone wanna give a few tips on what units to get for either to start with?
Is the demo still locked for pre-order people?
Not if you have registered in the Honour Guard forum.

I did, it said access denied!

I started out with a battalion box. It contains some squads of basic infantry, some fast walker, and some elite/HQ units. From that, I just bought 1 or 2 heavy units, and had a 500 point army in nothing.

Are you sure you want to get Death Korps of Krieg?
I heard they were quite expensive.
I want Vanilla Ice to return as the player character in a blood magpies game again. Sure he's a captain now, but he kinda grew on me. Epic 40k level game?
Yeah, i'd like him to return in DoW3, though, if he does return, i hope he can actually speak this time.
Diomedes could in Retribution, why wouldn't the original force commander be able to speak aswell?

Odd.
Well, you could contact THQ support about how you can't register in their forum, or just wait until tomorrow, then the demo is released for all those who haven't signed up for Honor Guard/pre-ordered.

Everyone goes for space marines..go for something else. You should be SURE what army (Playstyle really. E.g Guard/orks/nids are all about the tanks/heavy/infantry spam, Space marines are just a few squads etc)
Take a look at the armies backgrounds here to see which you like the most: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Warhammer_40,000

Space marines are arguably easier to get into.

Buying a small amount over a large time is not a problem.
I've done Tau, Dark Eldar, Eldar, Space Marine's and Wood Elf's before, aswell as Kroot.
I might either pick up Tau, Chaos or Death Korps, dosen't really matter as I like all of them alot.
tau seem like pretty cool people
and from what my warhammer pushing friend is saying is that, "they have a main focus on ranged weapons and are not all that big on melee weapons like swords as compared to the orcs or space marines."
Tau are very offensive, but only in long range. They don't defend. If they get overrun, they retreat then come back the next day and destroy everything.
Their vehicles are fast and have very good movement and are good on all fronts (Broadside X88's have shoulder mounted Railguns, good versus other vehicles/very heavy infantry like Chaos Obliterators) and the infantry are p. much snipers when it comes to the pulse rifle.
So, what books would you guys recommend to someone who wants to get into the whole lore more?
I allready played Dawn of War, so I have some knowledge , but I want to get into it more :v:

Watch them get destroyed by:

Sneak in a Rhino with some heavy ordinance carrying some Assault marines and the TAU are pretty much goners.
That is true, unless the Tau player has Anti-tank (See X88 and Pathfinders with Railrifles).
Space marines are arguably easier to get into.
Because they are basically easy mode and lack any sort of personality (Army wise)
Chapter wise, when it comes to Space Marines, I believe Dark Angels and Black Templars have the most personality and they are arguably the most underrated chapters.
Personaly I find the easiest army to paint, collect and play with are necrons.
Easy to paint well, solid troops where base weapons are light anti armour
A basic 500 point force can be just a lord with res orb, 20 warriors and it fits the core layout (1 HQ 2 Troop)
Tough and tactical, only weakness is the phase out.
Necron's seem to be the easiest and best starting army, but they still have their advanced tactics/troops.
i think i'll go with space marines so that me and my mate can team up against my other other friend who has his own dropships and aircraft
he has an army of massive size that my warhammer pushing friend can't match
