my entire army consisting of 2 Guardsmen squads, a HW Team, a Manticore and my commander and lived
There is your problem.
You also need more Catachan.
Chaos is pretty tough to kill as any race. Mostly due to heretic suppression and cheap bloodcrushers.
Just be nids and eat them.
A few tips at beating Chaos as IG.
1: Never get a manticore until you have storm troopers with meltaguns, bloodcrushers will fuck it over.
2: Always get storm troopers, these will help you so much if you put meltaguns on them.
3: Get plasma guns on your guardsmen as soon as possible, it will give you the upper hand when up against Tzeentch Marines.
4: Get rid of heretics as soon as possible, their worship and melee will make your life hell if you avoid them, especially when your enemy is playing as a Plague Champion.
5: Sentinels, you can repel heretics easily with ground stomp, in addition to being able to get rocket launchers on them later on, helping a lot in anti-vehicle and anti-infantry.
6: Never get Ogryns, they are easy to tackle for even a single Tzeentch squad.
7: Chaos Lords, they are the bane of all IG, these are the main priority unless heretics are charging you.
8: Don't ever make las-turrets, Chaos dispatch them easily no matter the hero.
9: Stay away from Chaos Lords with Armor of the Inferno, they will completely obliterate guardsmen.
I hope this helps you guys, Chaos are a formidable foe for anyone.
Khorne flakes is old.
I hear it like every ten minutes on Retribution chat, it's not even funny any more.
Not to mention it showed up referenced in a BL book actually.
Was about an idol of Khorne made out of Corn and how the inquisitor found it funny.
As to tips in IG vs Chaos. Sentinels are you absolute best friend throughout the entire game. They are relatively cheap, long ranged, fast so they can easily flank and can dislodge entrenched squads. There's a reason 2 senties, IG t2 storms and catachans are actually viable.
Second IG's are massively awesome at battlefield control and zoning. The amount of stealth they have, stealth traps stomps, movement stoppers and manticore blasts basically allow them to dictate when and where to fight.
Not to mention you can force an opponent to often get detectors which aren't that great in all cases. I mean getting rangers as eldar against IG is just sort of uh okay, not really a unit I'd want really is it.
The thing is, you will want to usually go tank heavy in lategame against chaos and have a somewhat low troop troughout the game to not be a target to all of their AOE. So you will want to actually stall more often then not.
I'd say just for that, a flamer IG squad is better than a plasma one. Since you can easily go gen hunting and can do better post stomp mop ups of heretics. I'm also mostly an inquisitor person so a bolter stake is pure bliss vs chaos and ork.

Anyone have any good strategies to get high scores on last stand (like 10+ million)?
Dunno, bored and trying to get achievements.

Brothers of the Snake.
Uh, so anybody as poor as me wants to try to play Tabletop W40k via VASSAL? If you do, add me on Steam and we can further discuss this.
Do you at least have a Codex/Rulebook?
Wraith, chaos will eat up sentinels once they have Tzeentch marines, that's why 1 is pretty much enough for t1 support.
Do you at least have a Codex/Rulebook?
Yes, I read a few codexes and the rules.
I'd play a game with you Antary. I played a game using it months ago and lost horrendously.

This will be my first ever game so don`t expect me to do better :v:
I thought of going with Cats before HW, since Chaos are melee oriented
Oh and the reason I did have any Cats was because they got locked down and killed off while trying to retreat

Sents are so squishy, it's not worth getting ups for them

I like playing Commissar Lord
He's not exactly very viable though
Everybody was chainsword fighting
Those raptors were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they fought with expert timing
They were funky Eldar men from funky Eladartown
They were chopping them up and they were chopping them down
It's an ancient biel-tan art and everybody knew their part
From a feint into a slip, and chopping off the hip
Everybody was chainsword fighting
Those aspects were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they fought with expert timing
There was funky Captain Stern and little Sergeant Chen
He said here comes the Chaos Lord, lets purge it on
We took a oath and made a stand, started swinging with the hand
The sudden motion made me skip now we're into a brand knew trip
Everybody was chainsword fighting
Raptor Lords are fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they did it with expert timing
(repeat)..make sure you have expert timing
Chainsword fighting, had to be fast as lightning
This might continue until the end of June, when I go back to school. Maybe one a day if I can be bothered and you all do not mind.
Yes, I read a few codexes and the rules.
It's still a good Idea to own the rulebook but it's basically required to own a codex so you can get the point values of your troops. One time some guy tried to cheat me out of my move and rapid fire from my Tactical squads
Antary and myself are duking it out over Vassal. He wreaked a fearsome tally at range, but now my Hive Tyrant and Hormagaunts are in melee it's a different story.

how could someone be that dumb
In other news, maybe going to play irl 40k again for the first time in like 9 months today.
I love how the only rulebooks you can get are either A: The gigantic rulebook of doom, or B: A tiny pocket rulebook included in much larger pack.
So either way, GW makes sure you spend a lot of money.
Makes me glad I got my rulebook when it came out and the prices weren't that inflated.

irl 40k? Dark Heresy? What do you mean by that?

Sounds to me like he's going to play tabletop.
Just won in a straight up battle with Antary after he killed my Hive Tyrant with a bolt pistol.

Or that. IRL seems like he would dress up as a character and do stuff. Oh well

yeah that was awesome.
The Warhammer Universe would be an pretty awesome setting for a 4X game. Seriously, à la Master of Orion or Empire at War.
Just had the best teammate ever
5 Scout squads into one Dreadnought build
So I'm thinking about getting into the 40K tabletop game soon.
What do you guys think is required to play and what do you think is the cheapest way I can get it?
I've yet to decide which army I want to play, so I wouldn't mind hearing out your opinions on the different factions also.
Step 1 of starting 40k tabletop:
Acquire hundreds(or thousands) of dollars depending on how large you want your army to be.
Step 2:
Either A: Paint your army quickly and make it look like shit, B: Reveal you are a painter at heart and paint them slowly and skillfully, or C: Paint a few pretty well then get scared to paint the others in fear of screwing them up.
Well, I have a steady source of disposable income at the moment so Step 1 shouldn't be a problem.
And I'll probably go with C on Step 2. But then I'd lend them to a friend who actually is a painter and hopefully he could finish them.
