Oh god, the censor list for Space Marine is hilarious: A sample:
bitchwrinkle buttpirate dickgoblin nigeria puddinghatch hamwallet rumpleforeskin cocksplinter porksteeple turdburgler boinkswatter gutlocker lap rocket fiddlecove
Anyone have a conclusive list of W40K insults? [editline]8th September 2011[/editline] Ejactulating Ejaculating Ejaculation. [editline]8th September 2011[/editline] Horny HORNY HORNIEST
Oh god somebody post the whole list, that short 14 just killed me. I can just imagine the meeting where that happened. Just people ignoring key word filtering and just blurting out ridiculous names for body functions and parts.
I hope Necrons are eventually added as a playable race in Retribution.
I doubt there's going to be any big updates like races being added so it'll probably be DoW3 for anything like that.
Cover is for the weak? Yeah good luck taking out those ork rokkit launchas and basically anything ranged from the orks while standing out in the open. They're pissing me off already especially because most of the time they're unreachable or really far away, and hard difficulty doesn't help.

I take back about what I said on the subject of Battle for the Abyss. The First Heretic is amazing compared to it. I have a new respect for the Word Bearers.

Great insult, also Feth and Gak are great 40k replacements for swear words.
Just beat the campaign, took me a little over 8 hours on normal. It was alright, I think they could have done better, but it wasn't terrible.
Above cover but not dodging.
dodge them in tight rooms/corridors or with an horde of bois coming at you, so far on these circumstances the only way I found was to stand somewhere where they can't shoot you, kill the melee orks that come for you and then kill the ranged ones taking cover as you may need. It really breaks the pace of the gameplay and it gets annoying.
Wrote a small review about the game, didn't mean to but when I got started I couldn't stop :v:
Just beat it this morning and I completely agree with the RPS article on the singleplayer. The gameplay is fun, the controls are solid, and they really nailed the 40k feel, but there just is not enough to spice up the same old slashing and shooting action. It's fun, but only for so long, and you begin to grow tired of it. The pacing slows down immensely as you get near the end of the game, with super-armored baddies lighting you up from across the room and forcing you to take cover. Speaking of which, I like the idea of executing enemies to gain health, but for two reasons I think it was implemented poorly. First, you are entirely exposed while doing a canned animation that can last up to five seconds, which in later stages means you are basically dead. My survival tactics near the end of the game boiled down to just jumping between crates to let my shields recharge while my health stayed at a low point the entire fight. Secondly, the animations themselves get old after about the 10th time you have seen the same one over and over. As far as I can tell there are two or three animations depending on weapon. Considering this is the main way to gain health, you would think they would have made it a bit flashier. The level design was aesthetically gorgeous. I have never played a game that made me feel like I was actually on a forge world in the grim future of the 41st millenium. Unfortunately, again, the realistic limitations of technology, budget, and/or time have consigned the game to a run of the mill corridor shooter where any attempt to go off the beaten path is met with visible and not so visible barriers. There are a few parts where you get to stretch your legs (and these parts are marvelous fun) but they are few and far between and you soon forget about them after trudging through yet another tunnel blasting away more Orks. Multiplayer wise however the game is completely different. While still able to maintain it's uniqueness among a host of first and third person shooters available today, it also borrows elements from a lot of other popular games and works them in neatly together. This part of the game suprised me the most because I expected an entirely tacked on experience. Was I wrong. The shooting, movement, balance, and map design are all excellent, especially considering this is Relics first competitive shooter game. The customization is insane as well. You can mix and match over a dozen pieces of armor, change the paint of each part individually, or just go with premade chapters for Space Marines or Chaos Space Marines. The only downside on the multiplayer end is how the background infrastructure supports it, in that it rarely does. Space Marine uses a peer-to-peer system, similar to Transformers: War for Cybertron, Alien vs Predator, or Modern Warfare 2 which means that the game automatically finds a host and matchmakes for you. My personal experience over about 8 hours of multiplayer is a solid "meh" when it comes to connectivity. When it works, it works great, but that is a rare moment. It's also hard to join friends at times, and there are a few UI bugs still in the game. Overall, I would rate Space Marine a solid 8/10. At times repetitive, the story it tells and the setting it illustrates is quite enjoyable, and the multiplayer experience, when cooperative, can be both an entirely unique and enjoyable time. I bought this game completely on a whim because I needed something to play and I don't regret it at all.
So what exactly happens to someone if they're accused of being a heretic? I know it's bad - like, really bad - but I've never actually heard of what can happen after the Inquisition catches you.
What am I even hearing oh god
It's a list of stuff Relic decided to censor.
By the way, if you want the full list of "bad" words. Go to:
Steam -> steamapps -> common -> warhammer 40,000 space marine -> data -> config -> badwords.xml
[editline]8th September 2011[/editline]
So what exactly happens to someone if they're accused of being a heretic? I know it's bad - like, really bad - but I've never actually heard of what can happen after the Inquisition catches you.
Interrogation and then most likely execution. It's not that simple, but that's the gist of it.
So what exactly happens to someone if they're accused of being a heretic? I know it's bad - like, really bad - but I've never actually heard of what can happen after the Inquisition catches you.
Interrogated, tortured physically, mentally and psychically, and if you are found guilty and confess, you die, if you are found guilty and don't confess, you die much much more slowly.
It's got nothing to do with how it looks. It's not an official picture, there are no official pictures of female guardsman and therefore there shouldn't be any pictures of them on the wiki. There's also things like this, which is apparantly a Harakoni Warhawk despite there being no official pictures:
Official pictures have issues with copyright, hence fan pictures as long as they fit aren't problematic. So I don't see an issue with it. Also - a number of BL books do have female guardsmen on the cover. Secondly many more are described in fluff and there's a female LT in a GW sanctioned game now.

So what exactly happens to someone if they're accused of being a heretic? I know it's bad - like, really bad - but I've never actually heard of what can happen after the Inquisition catches you.

Most heresies are dealt with by the eclesiarchy and a lot depends on where they are found and how major they are. Some chapters of the eclesiarchy see heresies in things others see completely normal. Likewise as long as it's merely a minor heresy that keeps the imperial cult strong, it can be ignored as it will be rectified with time. Others are dealt with penance, imprisonment as well as some more severe punishments. You really need to be an archheretic for the inquisition to get more than a passing interest at yourself most of the time. As to what happens. Some old time favourites are flaggelation, being turned into a servitor, placed into a penitent engine and similar ways to save your soul. (painful, or downright deadly, but meant to save you). Though these are usually appliable to medium cases. The more severe get questioned and then executed. In some cases they can get executed multiple times. Each time kept alive by imperial psykers.

I just dislike how this is so obviously a console port. It never goes above 600 mb with the amount of ram used.
I just dislike how this is so obviously a console port. It never goes above 600 mb with the amount of ram used.
It's not though.
On the subject of cursing in the 40K universe, in the Cain books they use 'frak' instead of fuck and 'warp' instead of hell. Like 'What in the warp was that?' or 'FRAK THIS'.
It's not though.
It kind of is though. It has some pc specific features but other then that it really is. Lack of FOV options and texture settings are really off putting.
It's well optimised for being a port, then. Which it is, a PC to console port. Lack of graphical settings is nothing "port" related, nor is FOV changing (it is unneeded anyway, it's a fucking over the shoulder shooter).

Forgot to mention the biggest sign that it was a console port. Open mic. Seriously how do you forgot something like that?

Anyone else feel like there could have been THQ meddling with the game seeing how it went from a really good concept to a point a to b action game?
Does anyone who had sound issues in the demo still get them with the full game? not sure if i can handle playing an entire campaign with the sound lagging 10 seconds behind (really annoying in fights)
