I'm thinking about starting a Tau army. Any strategic/artistic/financial suggestions?

What Sept of the Tau are you doing? the Tau sept can be a bitch to paint right. Ive got an army myself of around 40-50 firewarriors, 4 Crisis suits, 3 Stealth suits, 20 Kroot, 2 devilfish, 2 HH's and 2 devil fishes. Ive never actually tested them in a battle, they were just my first army. I was really inspired by the Tau Fire Warrior game (no matter how bad it was, the Fire Warriors look awesome), but then I decided I wanted a Space Marines army instead.
Strategic: Pathfinders to scout for your Fire Warriors, range bonus if I remember correctly. A devilfish to move your units quickly. Battlesuits to flank and ambush enemies, support with Fire Warriors. Very basic but good for starters.
Artistic: Go hog wild. Unless you wanna go sept.
Financial: Just like any other army, they are cheap in small numbers. Go with a FW squad first, then Pathfinders then move out from there to whatever you find is top priority.
Also what is this I've been hearing of GW releasing some kind of mystery box this Saturday? Something similar to the Space Hulk remake or something to do with Space Marine maybe?

What the christ are you people talking about? Did the emprah die or something?

Scroll up, see it's the same stuff as always. Space Marine game, Death Korps of Krieg and Matt Ward. Never change 40k thread. :v:
This thread's a lot more active than it used to be, which may be the reason why there were so many new posts.
Plus ten days is a fairly long time, you could expect a thread to have so many posts when you haven't viewed it in ten days.
Hmm, my mates want to start playing the tabletop stuff again. Starting a Thousand Sons alike army is extremely tempting. But so is Imperial Guard, maybe a mechanised one.
Mechanized Traitor Guards in allegiance with Thousand Sons?

I would probably do another playthrough of Space Marine if they would replace Titus's voice with Boreale's.

Not sure, I might just go for the default yellowish-brown color scheme of T'au. I'll look into the septs further to see if anything catches my eye.

I think I was in that game! I remember watching 4 of my chaos buddies die on the cap point and I ran up and capped it myself! Was a "Doop" in your game? That was me!

If I ever going to get Tau, I'll paint them White/Black/Red, it's looks badass.
Fortunately Necrons are piss easy to paint (unless you're painting Destroyers), I split my army into 3 parts and painted them separately Bronze, Silver and Gold.
From LMAO pics

To anyone who plays the tabletop when do you recommend painting, before or after you've finished building the models?
To anyone who plays the tabletop when do you recommend painting, before or after you've finished building the models?
Definetly after, never heard about anyone painting before. Many parts are really really tiny and if you paint the model after assembly paint will hold it together a little better too.

With certain component some people prefer to paint them before gluing, although in most cases it shouldn't be an issue, unless you're entering a competition or something.

Y U So expensive forgeworld?
Unless it's a skin for a Grey Knight, i doubt i'm going to buy any DLC for Space Marine.
Seeing as it's pretty much vet parts with more holes and writey stuff on it, + super specular channel gradient, I'd say paying 7 bucks is in your future.

Though, imagine Grey Knight armor while wielding a power sword.
That'd be pretty awesome, in my opinion.

Didn't games workshop used to have a flash app that let you paint a marine?
I'd probably pay $7 to play as a Grey Knight.
Also, i now know that my GKTs, special/heavy weapons and Castellan combined are around 390 points, and a Grey Knight squad is at least +100 points.
Is it okay to play against someone with an army that is slightly over a certain amount of points?
I.E, playing against someone with 500 points while you have 513 or something.
If that's possible, then i might just slide in a Grey Knight Purifier squad, but if it's not, i might just consider going for a 1000 point Grey Knights army instead.

There's always the vastly improved version on B&C to use.
EDIT:
5 points over is probably the maximum I'd allow, try a 750 or 1000 point army.

They did, there is one on the internet somewhere (I tried finding it but couldn't), so I did what any sane emperor-loving man would do and draw a space marine myself so that I could try out some colour schemes.

I've supported relic even for shit I don't like, like Usmurfs for dow2, so, I'm sure I can pick this up as well.

I just finished building my first models, Ork Nobs, any tips and paint recommendations for painting them?
