Much as I love the Tau, they were designed to appeal to the Oriental, Japanese market and are mecha-inspired in may parts.
So you think these look bad?

I spot a katana (or better, something with the handle of a katana) attached to his waist.

All 3 of those pictures have some sort of Knife (although i'm not exactly sure what the first picture is holding). It may just be a Bonding Knife.
While they do not like Close Combat, it does not mean they won't use it if their life depends on it.

Which is why people who play Tau have no testicles.
I convinced my friend (who hates DC) to play the base game yesterday (didn't need hamachi). We went 1v1 against each other. Me as Necrons, him as Tau. At first he took the only critical location and started that taken hold victory bullshit, which we agreed was stupid and he allowed me to make it neutral so it would stop. I was stuck inside my base (which he frequently invaded, it was that map with the bases back to back), but the turrets were stopping him from getting inside to kill my shit.
Long story short, I made a fully activated monolith and got the nightbringer upgrade and invaded his base with both, killed lots of shit, got him so pissed off that he took the critical point, which I threw everything at to get it back (KROOTOX WON'T FUCKING DIE) to neutral, and he then invaded my base again with his douchebag crisis suits and killed the monolith while it was recovering.
There was much rage. Game pisses people off more then DoW2.
To be honest if you lost by the time you got a mono, you seriously need to rethink your strategy. necron essentially are the critical mass race. Get enough power get enough speed and then just roll over anyone whateverhe tries, and block their ranged via eclipse.
Admittedly the only race that can relatively counter that is Tau via firewarrior pathfinder spam. But there's hardly a chance even so.
Basically playing capture the location is kinda necessary in a XvsN*as it's basically the only thing that can force the necron player out. Still most just use shrouded wraiths int he end.
Though you do have one more option in doing your best to loose all your units in around one place and then do a sneak resurrection and getting a 30+ army.
If it hasn't giant pauldrons nor spikes nor scratch attached to it nor skulls and shit it's weeaboo crap? Good thing everything in the rest of 40k is 100% original and not based on something.
anyone up for some dark crusade games now?

This is a really reminiscent of Samurai's armour. And is this Tau wearing high heels or is it the shape of his/her feet?
I figured I'd drop a link here for those interested, this is Firestorm over Kronus 3.6, the final version of FoK for Dark Crusade.

That's how their feet are shaped.
Perhaps Tau may be anime-influenced, but you will always remember them as 40k's version of communists.

Having a Caste system doesn't make them communist.

The Greater Good does.
The Greater Good does.
I thought communism was more then just doing things for one unified purpose or whatever. Besides, isn't that sort of what the Imperium does, with the "FOR THE EMPEROR AND IMPERIUM" thing?

They're just crazies.
And dictatorship.

Even their music theme is oriental, just admit they're influenced by Eastern sources.
Black Templars ev'ryday? Assault marines all the way?
Yeah go Blood Angels. Mephiston is the best psyker in the game (combat wise) and his squad gets to move as if they have jump packs (or maybe it's just him I forget).
I know there's already a Dark Heresy game running, but would anybody else be interested in starting a new game? I've been itching to play but I can't find a group near me.
I'd like to play with you.

Yes of course they are influenced by eastern culture, and that isn't a bad thing, but some of you make it seem like it's purely fanservice for asians and weeaboos. It's good that 40k has variety, that's my point.
You can pretty much equate 40K things to some centre of human culture.
Well they were mostly based on old age fantasy themes which in turn have roots in human culture.

No they won't. The Bonding Knife is solely used for bonding, not for combat.

So you think when the enemy is standing right next to them trying to rip them apart with a sword/fists/axe/whatever they would not fight back if the only weapon they had was a close combat weapon?
I never said they'd use a bonding knife. I said if they REALLY had to they'd use close combat if they had no other choice. The 2nd picture i posted has the firewarrior with a knife AND a sword.

Most are based on Warhammer Fantasy, High Elves = Eldar, Dark Elves = Eldar. Chaos Gods are identical.
Dwarfs = +++++++++Removed by his most Holy Inquisition+++++++++

Here is a bonding knife. It does not display any features whatsoever that make it more effective than a rifle butt in close quarters.

Don't you mean SqBLAM
So a little bit off topic here, I've been loosing my shape lately and I decided I should exercise more, you think I should start doing some squBLAM
Speaking of old races, a local hobby shop has some chaos dwarves in a display case. The models are so old and dumb looking

No they are Warhammer models. Quoted for size

If I go to the store this summer I'll take pictures of the ones they have

That is the sheath, not the actual knife. I never said they would use a bonding knife to fight anyway so i don't know why you mentioned that.
I didn't.
I didn't.
You posted a bonding knife picture then said they wouldn't use it in a fight, implying i said they would.

So Yes, you did.
