To be fair, the game was a bit sub-par. Not exactly bad, just not as great as it could have been.

Those reviews are probably from people hating on the game.

How do citizens of the Imperium do for entertainment? They seem to drink and throw festivals for new guard regiments and that's it. How can you keep a work force happy when there's no TV, no restaurants, no movie theaters or anything else?

Or is the trade off just "Do good work in our factories/farms and you won't get killed by guardsmen/aliens."

There are also holos, from what I know. Also entertainers, well, entertain them. And I can totally imagine, similarly to medieval times, there being religious plays sometimes on big celebrations which mix crude humour with important morals. (FIND THE HERETIC, HATE THE XENO etc. :v: )

And don't forget, a decent proportion of the population is at least somewhat literate so I assume books of a mild, fictional, or informative nature are permitted.

As long as they aren't Lovecraftian Fiction, Fantasy novels that are better than the Imperium, or technical guides, you should be alright.

And yeah, the Dark Heresy book lists a few neat civilian places.

Enclosed parks, speeches, plays, holo-shows, carnivals, drinking-halls, gladiatorial fights, and on occasion brothels and stip-clubs.
