And don't forget, a decent proportion of the population is at least somewhat literate so I assume books of a mild, fictional, or informative nature are permitted. As long as they aren't Lovecraftian Fiction, Fantasy novels that are better than the Imperium, or technical guides, you should be alright. And yeah, the Dark Heresy book lists a few neat civilian places. Enclosed parks, speeches, plays, holo-shows, carnivals, drinking-halls, gladiatorial fights, and on occasion brothels and stip-clubs.
Which expansion si that? I do not recall such in-depth descriptions of civilian leisures in the core rulebook.
Around $1800 USD. [editline]30th September 2011[/editline] automerge damnit

Gahh! I love warhammer! p.s I'm an idiot ;)
Of course they're the best at stealing relics. They even single-handedly looted both of Abaddon's arms. Hold on, where's the Golden Throne?
[t]http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/16410993/images/1316899393446.jpg[/t]
There are also holos, from what I know. Also entertainers, well, entertain them. And I can totally imagine, similarly to medieval times, there being religious plays sometimes on big celebrations which mix crude humour with important morals. (FIND THE HERETIC, HATE THE XENO etc. :v: )
Imagine the Imperium's schools: ''Now now, kids, tell me, can you spot the heresy?'' :v:
Imagine the Imperium's schools: ''Now now, kids, tell me, can you spot the heresy?'' :v:
"Miss! Miss! Tommy's talking with the imaginary voices again!"
Imagine the Imperium's schools: ''Now now, kids, tell me, can you spot the heresy?'' :v:
For about 85% of the children alive in the 41st Millennium life is pretty dismal.
"Daddy came home today with a letter, it had a shiny eagle on it, he cried a lot while holding me and mommy really close. He said he was going away, and that Emperor was calling on him to perform his sacred duty. A couple days later he got some funny green clothes with the same eagle on them. Parts of the clothes were hard like rocks. I asked Daddy why and he said they were to keep him safe. I don't think rocks will keep daddy safe. We went to the spaceport with him before he left. Mommy cried a lot while a man with a big hat put daddy on board a ship. Sister Mira at school says daddy is serving in His graces army and that he'll be fighting the enemies of the Emperor, but I said that daddy doesn't fight, he works in a factory. I saw the ship take off and I cried with mommy for a really long time. When is daddy coming home?"
I'd imagine the only peace children would know is if they were born into the higher ruling classes, in which case they probably enjoy a standard of living that other children couldn't begin to comprehend. Children born on Agricultural worlds have it better than those on Death and Hive Worlds, obviously. The Cadia birth rate and recruitment rate are the same, so that's something to consider. Now the Tau on the other hand, they don't have to live every day of their lives in fear :v:
Just constant slavery instead.
"Miss! Miss! Tommy's talking with the imaginary voices again!" "Alright Susie, you know what you have to do, take this bolter gun and give him the emperor's peace." *BLAM* "GOLD SKULL FOR SUSIE"

"Whenever I got to bed, I hear these...whispers. They're really, really scary, and they tell me that I can do things with my brain, and that I should do bad stuff with these things. I try not to think about it, but then the whispers get louder and I accidentally made Sister Cadence's recaf cup explode in her face, everyone laughed and didn't know I did it because I kept quiet and sit in the back of the class. Yesterday a man came to the house. He had a large black hat. He talked to mommy for a while. He asked to talk to me and mommy just looked at me like I was a monster. I didn't like the way that she looked at me, it made me really sad. The man with the hat asked me if I "heard the voices of the warp". He looked really scary but he spoke to me very softly. At first I didn't say anything...but then I told him about the whispers, and the cup, and the time that Jimmy was being mean to me and he burned his arm and there was no fire. Mommy burst into tears and the man with the hat said, "I've heard all I needed to hear." He said he going to take me with him, that he could take me to people who could make the whispers stop, and who could make me stop doing weird stuff unless I wanted it to happen. I didn't want to go with him, I wanted to stay with mommy. But when I ran to her she backed away like she was afraid of me. She kept crying and crying while the man with the hat led me to his car outside. The car had a capital I and skull on it. I never saw mommy again."
I'd also have to imagine quite a number of children have violent nightmares as a result of Chaos.
Also being a regular civi' in the Imperium wouldn't be so bad, the vast majority of Imperial planets are "civilised" worlds, meaning you don't get worked to death/choke in industrial fumes/conscripted (unless you're in the PDF already, which is usually volunteer, I've read.). Those worlds are generally something akin to Earth, just with the social and technological differences of the Imperium, obviously.
What do they do with the children who are affected by Chaos? Do they just kill them or use them for research?
What do they do with the children who are affected by Chaos? Do they just kill them or use them for research?
Those are pretty much the same thing.
Imagine a child growing up on Krieg. Sonvabitch. Also, [t]http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/16101160/images/1314624666110.jpg[/t]
How do citizens of the Imperium do for entertainment? They seem to drink and throw festivals for new guard regiments and that's it. How can you keep a work force happy when there's no TV, no restaurants, no movie theaters or anything else? Or is the trade off just "Do good work in our factories/farms and you won't get killed by guardsmen/aliens."
They turn on their Telescreen and watch [i]I.G.
This was pretty disturbing 'til I noticed dat chaos tattoo.
Which leads to the question: Why do heretics have tattoos/marks of Chaos on their body? Do the Chaos Gods mark you when you become a follower of Chaos or something? Because having a chaos tattoo/mark is not a good idea, mainly because if they find it, you'll be executed or tortured, or even both.

Or maybe it's like some otherwordly GPS that gives you benefits when you wear it.
Maybe so they can use your body to summon Daemons if they want? Like a ~portal to another dimension~ in tattoo form.
Ya know sometimes I wonder if its even possible for the Gaurdsmen to kill something with their bayonets.
