I decided that I would start playing as the Imperial Guard, any advice on what to buy? I was thinking the 5th edition codex and then either a Cadian battleforce or some other alternative to buying troops.

Should I bother learning 40k? I think the only tactic I would bother with you be sending in men rather straight forward ala imperial guard.

I was reading a thread on warseer about a guy selling his blood so he can buy GW models. Wow, you should know when you are addicted or obsessed with a hobby. Warhammer is an addicting hobby, I should know but I managed to break away from it, now you've got people selling their blood so they can buy their stuff.

He mentioned that part of the focus will be to highlight to differences between normal marines and warped chaos marines, both in the appearance of the model and in the organizational structure of the legion. If I recall correctly, he mentioned this as the first release of 6th edition. Also of note, Apparently a pitch to release traitor guard as a codex was put forward and rejected though the person pitching it put forth a very good proposal.
3) 6th Edition. He said it is just around the corner. I think he was more specific but I don't want to compromise this information with half remembered details. I believe he mentioned 2 codexs to be released before 6th. One was Necrons and the other was either Dark Angels or Eldar. I was surprised at this. Whatever the order was (either DA or Eldar, the other will be the second book in 6th--damn it, I can't remember which one!)
3) The boxed set for 6th with be Chaos versus Dark Angels.
4) I really wanted to get news about the Tau. Heartbreakingly he said that the Tau are not even being talked about at this point. They are way out in the lineup.

Why. Why would you want them to talk Tyranids. So far everything that has come out recently has raped the fluff in horrifying ways. Even the last Tyranid Codex took a lot away from the race.
Thankfully for us Tyranid fans, their codex was fairly recent, so they won't get violated anymore for a long while.
I went over to /tg/ for the first time today and saw a thread on a warhammer 40k game called "Chapter master" I can't find a link to what it is using google, apparently its about leading a space marine chapter. Anyone know what this is?

It's absolutely ridiculous how good the Heavy Bolter and Plasma Cannon are in Space Marine multiplayer. With the upgraded shield you're almost unstoppable.

Looking into actually buying a rulebook. I don't want to get the big hardcover one if I can avoid it because it's ridiculously expensive (what else should you expect, though? :v:), and I can find the mini rulebooks from Black Reach on EBay for ~$25. Would you say that's a good idea and a good deal?

Well the hardcover costs like twice of that and has all the fluff stuff etc and is better on the long run, since while you can play on the Black Reach book most people buy the big rulebook anyway

All I would want the rulebook for is... well, rules. And having the larger hardcover also means it's a bit more of a chore to lug around. I have a bit of an awkward art box for my army, and then my codex, a notebook for army lists, and everything else I need to carry. And I tend to take ~everything~ because I don't know what I'll be doing any particular day. I could paint, I could play, it all depends.
