So um, what happens if mankind manages to bio engineer all the imperial guardsmen into Space marines?
or is it impossible?
The technology and means to create additional gene seeds has been lost. Add onto this the fact that gene seeds tend to be corrupted, mutated and destroyed in combat and the space marines are slowly dying out.
Kasrkins get some genetic enhancements, but nothing approaching the level Space Marines get.
I just finished my first model. Three things though before you guys kill me with criticism. One I was looking at the picture and I noticed the paint on his left leg I did not notice till now so ignore it. Second I was using a every basic paint set since I'm a cheap motherfucker. Third I was also using a big brush so that's why the eyes look like shit. Other then that what do you guys think?

Oi! What happen' to mah boyz?
[editline]4th October 2011[/editline]
Nah, it looks fine. Pretend he's fighting on the sun and melting.
Daw, take it easy on the kid. I think the model looks great. I hate painting Orks to this day. No specific reason why, I just hate Orks.
Speaking of painting Orks, I've just decided to paint my Warboss. Here's the before picture, I'll post the after picture when I'm done.

Not looking forward to painting him. Going to stop in till I get a smaller paint brush and who knows when that will be.
You can get small paintbrushes cheap. I got a set of 20 decent paintbrushes for around $2 at some crafts store. I wouldn't buy official paintbrushes.
Welp, Erebus just took the place of #1 Douchbag again: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Interex#.TouMGLKKgf0

I think I could get a cheap one but it takes two hours to get to a hobby store, and I have no money so it kinda comes down to the no money thing.
They sell paintbrushes at Walmart too.
Me and a friend, btw, came to the conclusion that all Chaos gods but Khorne have a logical and good reason to exist.
Sure, there is alot of killing, but Nurgle, Slaanesh and Tzeentch all have better reason to exist.
The ever changing universe, the decaying civilizations and seducing mysteries (and/or babes) are all logical. :v:
Basicly, Khorne is a simple idiot and has no reason to exist when compared to all the other ones, even Malice. :v:
Why do they exist than?
Nurgle exists to welcome the dead, he's pretty much your jolly old grandfather that is there to welcome you and care for you.
Slaanesh exists because seduction is eternal.
Tzeentch because everything changes, staying always in movement.
Khorne because war.
They sell paintbrushes at Walmart too.
They do? Small ones too?
So, Nurgle, Slaanesh and Tzeentch are Khorne all together.
Death and decay, scheming and change, seduction and pain.
Khorne is the god of anger, violence, and hate. Every act of violence gives Khorne power, whether committed by his followers or by enemies. His martial honour and war aspect are really secondary to the pure emotions that created him.
So I (sort of) beat my first warhammer 40k game last night. I beat the chaos space marine campaign of DoW2. I'm just infatuated with WH40k now. I can't wait to play the rest of the campaigns and maybe read some of the books if I have the time

Use metallic paints on metal parts (axe haft, boots, gun etc etc) and don't dunk him in gloss varnish. Also, more washes and don't make the mistake of not basing your minatures.

Don't be cheap when you buy brushes, this is coming from someone who is actually a painter by trade (walls, canvas, models etc). You want some nice horse hair brushes and something stable and good use otherwise if you buy cheap - your brush hair will just fall apart and end up splitting which isn't very good when painting models.

In the WH40k universe war is eternal, hence the setting. He does have a place.

Kolinski/Sable brushes are generally the best for minature painting. The Windsor & Newton Series 7 range is usually praised.
Source? No doubts in your credibility, I just enjoy a good read about Wh40k. Why do you make it sound as if following Slaanesh would be bad, hah.
Think it's DoW2 Retribution, here's the speech.
Slaanesh is shit because he's nothing but sex and drugs. Not only does the sex and drugs thing get really old after a while, you get desensitised to it and have to find even worse things to do. It turns into the cycle of a junkie and since you have dedicated your life to it you're in deep shit.
Then there's down time. You can't be fighting all the time so there's some parts where you just sit back. Tzeentch has plans but it's not that important, Nurgle lets you do whatever and loves you for it, Khorne ignores you when there's no fighting to be had but Slaanesh is at home when not fighting. You have to always do the sex and drugs routine and you're only away from that when fighting, they're even worse at fighting because wanking 24/7 doesn't help against a chainsword.

Uh no hes not. Slaneesh is about finding pleasure in all sensations, even pain. Its why Slaneesh cultists tend to love you for cutting their arm off.
If I do a black coat of paint on a figure first will the other colors show up over it just fine? So black first, redish brown for a uniform and a yellow on the armor for example. The black wouldn't mess with them, would it?
only 6000 copies to be sold of a special horus heresy book written by aaron bowden... WHY!?

Using a white spray (or primer) prime them white, then paint the areas where you want them to be brown black, and then brown and paint the yellow on top of the white, painting yellow on top of black is a long, difficult and often disastrous process.

What do you guys think? I try to go for a grittier Ork look. I think the normal color used for their skin is too bright.

The longer lived and tougher the Ork then the darker green and bigger he gets, so naturally your warbosses and Nobz would be a darker shade compared to regular boyz, depends on the 'rank' or hierarchy if you prefer but it does not really matter. It looks good, you should try watching some ork painting tips on youtube; experienced painters like myself often pick up nice little tricks on those videos. If you want something more gritty then generally go for dark colours, dark reds and dark greens apply here with minor highlights and if you can obtain some chalk to create rust then do so.
So bought myself a Creed and just finished painting him up, was my first time experimenting with highlighting.

All I need to do is base all my guys :v:
Well, I possess a very small amount of skill when it comes to painting. I never thought about watching videos would to learn some techniques. Thanks for the tips.
I don't really care too much for my Ork army though, I only have them so I can play with my friends who are too cheap to buy any 40k miniatures. I'm thinking about buying a few Chaos Space Marines though and trying to convert them to Plague Marines. Mainly because Plague Marines are hard to find for a reasonable price and I think it'd be good practice.
