An Adeptus Mechanicus symbol would look awesome on a dogtag, and i think they would let you do that, as i see no reason why they wouldn't.

Generally it's easier to spray basecoat the base at the same time as the model and then drybrush it.
Plus it reduces that chance of getting the base colour on the model.
'Winner' for an Armored Tau force, 'Zing' for a Mechanized Guard force.
EDIT: Aww, I really wanted to try out Tau too. But the merits of the Guard are really hard to pass up. Alright, I'll start with some tanks and light infantry.

I wan't to start a Death corps of Krieg army but I live in the U.S.A. So the conversion rate of euros to USD is insane. I'd do Steel Legion but there aren't that many special models for them.

The rules are fairly simple. Grab an autorifle with a RDs and you're good to go against anything smaller than a Storm Trooper.
