I think so.
Aren't Vostroyans also an elite regiment?
Vostroyans, Krieg, Steel Legion regiments etc are all respectively just from the same planet which happens to source a lot of regiments. There will be some elite regiments among them.
They just tend to stick in the mind more than the 151st Generic Backwater infantry regiment.

Unless I'm reading you wrong, Steel Legion and Vostroyans are definitely from different planets.
My Imperial Guard codex finally arrived in the mail, time to shop around and put together an army. Anyone have any recommendations for painting/assembly kits?
Make a Guardsman Marbo. He is definitely worth it.
Well, your local GW store is full of assholes.
Also, I noticed that people keep a print out of their forces, which is better than lugging an entire codex.
He's also been playing for long enough that he should know the stuff, so...
Unless I'm reading you wrong, Steel Legion and Vostroyans are definitely from different planets.
I meant respectively.
If you think about it, couldn't a terminator with a heavy flamer take out hundreds or thousands of guardsmen if he was placed at some kind of choke point?
If you think about it, couldn't a terminator with a heavy flamer take out hundreds or thousands of guardsmen if he was placed at some kind of choke point?
What kind of terminator would need to? Blood ravens?
I wasn't told I wasn't allowed to play, I was just told that I needed to get my own stuff. I had a codex and dice at the time, I now have a codex, dice, and 3ft. measuring tape. No scatter dice, no templates, no rules book. However, I've memorized enough of the rules for my army that I don't need a physical copy. I also don't have any template weapons yet, so....
But one of the guys was getting torn apart because he knew absolutely none of the rules for his army and essentially cheated by not playing by the rules. He's forced to answer three rules about his army each time he plays and if he gets them wrong he's not allowed to play until he can answer another three. :v:
I know people who work at GW usually are complete and total jackasses, but man... This is brutal.
Seriously, if you bring your own models (and buy stuff), why shouldn't you be allowed to use the rules if they have them there for people to use?
If you think about it, couldn't a terminator with a heavy flamer take out hundreds or thousands of guardsmen if he was placed at some kind of choke point?
Maybe. Flamers are kinda short range. I would say an assault cannon would be better.
What kind of terminator would need to? Blood ravens?
How about a Chaos Terminator?
If you think about it, couldn't a terminator with a heavy flamer take out hundreds or thousands of guardsmen if he was placed at some kind of choke point?
Probably, but that wall of scorched guardsmen would fall over and crush the terminator.
Success!
Maybe. Flamers are kinda short range. I would say an assault cannon would be better.
He'd do fine if he just went around punching them.
If you think about it, couldn't a terminator with a heavy flamer take out hundreds or thousands of guardsmen if he was placed at some kind of choke point?
He'd run out of fuel eventually, then he'd be buried.
He'd do fine if he just went around punching them.
That would be a waste.
Punching an imperial guardsman with a power fist is like cracking a nut with a pile driver.
Was just reading about the Orkz, holy shit they are more powerful than I thought. They apparently (and commonly) go into the warp to fight Daemons for their entertainment. They have also sent entire Tyranid hive fleets into eternal war with ease.
Good god, they seem almost more war-like than Khorne himself.

That's because they were [sp]genetically engineered by the Old Ones to be the ultimate weapons of war.[/sp]

Umm yes to the first and pretty much no anymore to the second.
They are getting their asses kicked by the Nids, whom have adapted to their usual strategies. If the Orks don't change something, they'll be gone from the sector by the end of the current decade.

The problem was that since he knew none of the rules, he'd usually go with what he thought was correct, which half the time turned out to be wrong, and typically in his favor. And on top of that when he did actually look up the rules, it took a long time and they're basically telling him he's not allowed to play because it's sucking out the fun of the game for everyone else AND making games last twice as long as they should.
And on top of that they weren't being absolute dicks about it. The way they were ripping in to him was actually more of playful jests and more friendly than not. It wasn't like they were raging and yelling and shouting at him.

From what I've read they've sent some hive fleets into eternal war (WAAAGH) several times now.
[editline]9th October 2011[/editline]
But if what you're saying is true, then I'm still happy. 'Cuz I'm a 'Nids guy.
Mork and Gork have kicked Khorne's ass, so yeah, it happens, esp since Orks have pretty much been ruled to be immune to chaos as of the last codex.
As for Nids, it's in the new codex.
After reading the Lexicanum about the Tyranids a bit more, it sounds like the Galaxy is pretty screwed against them. Apparently with the Necrons as well.

The Galaxy is just as screwed if the Orks were to unite. That would be a literally infinite supply of troops.
The Galaxy is just as screwed if the Orks were to unite. That would be a literally infinite supply of troops.
The galaxy is also screwed if the emperor awakens.
I guess every race could rule if it wasn't for just one thing, eh?

Well.
In 40k, everything is basically fucked.
If they sacrificed lets say...a million psykers, could that wake up the Emprah?
If they sacrificed lets say...a million psykers, could that wake up the Emprah?
Nope.
The Galaxy is just as screwed if the Orks were to unite. That would be a literally infinite supply of troops.
If the Orks were to unite the Imperium, Tau and Eldar would definitely be screwed, probably the Necrons as well but still, it seems like the Tyranids would just consume them since Orks don't change tactics a lot, and the Tyranids are quite adaptive.
After reading the Lexicanum about the Tyranids a bit more, it sounds like the Galaxy is pretty screwed against them. Apparently with the Necrons as well.
As I've stated, as of current fluff, Nids own the eventual-long-term logistical game, even over Necrons.
As I've stated, as of current fluff, Nids own the eventual-long-term logistical game, even over Necrons.
Gives me Yuuzhang Vong vibes, which isn't really a good thing. Hopefully as they advance the story they'll find some way to nerf the Tyranids somewhat so it's not a sure thing. Can't be a grimdark stalemate if the victory of one side is guaranteed.
If they sacrificed lets say...a million psykers, could that wake up the Emprah?
A Thousand Psykers are sacrificed daily just to keep the Astronominican and the emperor topped up, so, yeah no.

Necrons are actually probably the only race that stands a decent chance against them, millions if not billions of them (albeit most asleep) no fear, self repairing, anti warp stuff (which would screw with the hive mind) devestating weapons and the fact they have no organic bits so the 'nids can't use them to self propogate.
