IG are pretty much 3 guardsmen squads, a sentinel, a chimera and then some leman russes.
Tyranids are effective with either 3 termagaunt squads or 3 hormagaunt squads, then later on you can get tyrant guards and a swarmlord.

The Land Raider is a variant of a tractor apparently while Terminator armor is heavy-duty work armor modified for combat. Its funny how, a lot of stuff the Imperium uses is re-purposed peacetime technology that the common worker would of used thousands of years before them, kind of like a a flicker of mans former technological glory.
Imagine if they got hold of some actual tank STC's or military grade stuff.

Obviously the tractors were meant to be sent with colonists to harsh and unforgiving planets, but it's true ; pretty much anything the imperium has now is the civilian variant of things.
I suppose it's easier to design something if you look at what people did in the past then use that as a basis.
