Wait, i didn't mean it like that, i was just trying to make a Creed joke..
Eww, Imperial erections.
There's only one kind of joke you can make involving anything with the word "loin" in it.
Hint: it involves dicks.
I'm not too interested in the little figurines, so how do I get myself involved in this magical story of friendship and kindness that is WH40k?
Play Dow2.

More like Imperial decrees.

Invest in the Washes, they make a massive difference and REALLY improve coloring, Invest in some foundation colors aswell, If you build it like Undercoat\Orkhide Shade\Knarloc Green\Gretchin Green\Goblin Green(For nobz and warbosses in 40k just eliminate the gretchin green) then wash with Devlan Mud you get a wicked sick effect.
How can you be sure?
THQ is doing a sale every day of the week. Metro was $5 on Monday but now it's $13. I'm assuming DoW2 stuff will be on sale tomorrow and will be $5.
I'll post pictures of some of my models later when i can get a camera. In the meantime have a terrible picture of my metal(now Konvertid!) Ghazghkull under shitty lighting.

I actually coloured it like this:
Black undercoat
White around the legs, loincloth, skulls, helmet&right shoulderpad
Green around skin
Yellow on white parts that aren't skull
White on eyes
Red on eyes
Iron on left shoulder, on "backpack", around rims of right shoulder and on the thing on front
Gold on pike, around legs, skulls
Wash skin with darker green (green+black, then washed)
wash skin with black
Wash skin with lighter green (green+white, then washed)
Wash lointcloth+shoulderpad+helmet with black
Colour boots with brown
(I don't have any of the games workshop colours, I got green, red, blue, white, black, brown, yellow, gold, iron :v:)
Won't play orks in wh40k, but I'll keep that advice of yours in mind though, thanks! =
Always build up gold with metal. My OrkSkin guide works for any orc/ork.
Sidenote, Washes are good because they get rid of that cheapy day-glo effect most unwashed colors get.
Any decent tutorials on washes and thinning paints? I still can't get the hang of it.
Here's some terrible scans(Yes, scans) of my Ghazghkull Thraka(finecast), Kustom Warboss, and Yarrick, With my horrible fingers in some shots.

Yarrick came out the best scan-wise IMO. I still love his color scheme. Better shots tomorrow.
Are the Last Chancers novels any good? Looking for my Imperial Guard fluff fix beyond Dan Abnett and Sandy Mitchell.
Not sure about last chancers, But Dead Men Walking is a 10/10 from me.

They're pretty good, though they're more dirty dozen than Imperial Guard

Impression I got from the description was a bit more like Sven Hassel, but without all the off-track activities.

Okay, I am REALLY waiting to see what those look like in better lighting. Cannot wait for those better pics!
This is the DoW 2 Imperial guard theme

This one is also good when you get the full thing rather than just the perc/string track

The IG has six themes in Ret.

Don't worry, I have a massive 2-bulb flourescent aquarium light(So bright it hurts a bit at first) which i use to light my painting table, So i'll use that. I'll have a camera too.

Perfect. I actually have a couple of those too, although I've recently inhabited my sister's art table. She'll probably make me vacate soon, and head back into my basement.
The IG has six themes in Ret.
Four actually, and they're theme in the sense that they're themed for the race. The actual Theme music for the guard Is Imperial Creed. Much like how Angels of Death is the space marine theme. Blasphemer's March is the chaos theme.
I've got six here.
I guess he's playing death metal?
That reminds me, one of the comics has a tribal describe the Necrons as "The ancient death-metal gods"
It's possible, but you have to have the ability to rid entire galaxies of life.
You have no idea what you're talking about, do you? We've tried Exterminatus on the Tyranids many times now, it doesn't work, they keep coming. There is no end.
Scorched ground tactics were actually found to be the absolutely most effective strategy against tyranids and managed to hurt and starve of the fleets the most.
Essentially - reinforce planet, hold as long as possible to make nids use as many resources as they can, evacuate, exterminatus the planet. Once the nid fleet is depleted move in with space assets to mop them up.
Admittedy the inquisitor that did this tactics was excommunicated.
Essentially the strength of nids lies in the fact that even if they have giant losses taking a planet, once they take it, they more or less recover everything as well as the resources of the planet.
If they can't (imperials eradicate all life and resources on the planet before it falls), then the nids find themselves in a war of attrition that they are not built for. (aka unrecoverable)
So yes, starving nid fleets is quite effective.
So, yeah, it's less that the Tyranids are super-powerful and all, just that they're really, really lucky they haven't run into someone who's very good at timing stuff and/or is a freaking master at nuking shit.
Kind of surprising, considering the kind of heroes you normally see in 40K.
Anyways, I was just thinking; y'know how IG gear is actually really, really advanced compared to modern gear? Well, what if you pitted a team of IG against modern Marines?
I can't help but imagine the IG would get owned in seconds for running out at the Marines trying to get themselves killed like normal, whilst the Marines hide behind stuff and camouflage themselves. Stupid IG.
Your average IG has
a)vastly more combat training and experience than a marine
b)substantially better gear to levels it's not even funny
c)are probably somewhat genetically evolved compared to today's humans
d)are definitely not stupid (with the exception of a few regiments, which keep marching no matter what)
e)have an actual decent killrate|woundrate per shot fired. Whereas the US in Iraq is really low going by the statistics.
How did the "tactical genius hurr" meme start?

Were. The splinter fleets have been a lot more effective at going around green traps, and Nids are no longer tied to the warp like they used to be, which pretty much throws the fake yum yum angle out the window.
More training than a Marine?
No. Not even the DKoK has more training than your weakest Marine chapter. Marine has 15 minutes a DAY for "recreation". Your normal IG would drop dead.
Notice the talk was about modern day marines, soldiers.
As to splinter fleets - while they are more mobile, they're also a lot more susceptible to fights in space due to their smaller size.
I'd say excepting Cadians and DKoK, they're actually pretty close as an analogy can get, without taking leave into account. Their weapons are lowest bidder and re-purposed gear originally designed for other things.
Kryptmann got the boot because of politics, nothing more.
I'd hazard most Nid fleets are now vulnerable to having the pilot ship blowed up, more than anything else, til the next retcon.
What's this I hear about a 5th ed Necron Codex?

Might be released soon. Also, redundantly terrifying Necrons coming Halloween.
