I found a friend irl that can DM a Dark Heresy. One of the previous sessions the group ended falling from something to an abandoned shaft to find themselves trapped with a nurgle demon in front of them. They all died, cept for the IG, that was too busy fighting the deamon in hand-to-sword battle because his bayonet broken on the fall.
Should have gotten Lathe blade on the bayonet...
You can wipe out and disorientate an entire mob of enemies, so you have easy crowd control, and the Big Shoota is by far the best damage dealing weapon in the entire game.
Incorrect on both counts.
So, three beastmen wrecked a Halfling Strongman and nearly killed a Roadwarden. Oops. Poorly scaled fight on my behalf.
So yeah the Necrons are dead to me. DEAD TO ME.
They haven't been alive for a long time...until now.
They haven't been alive for a long time...until now.
Constructed out of Living Metal.
Complaining about lore changes? In GW? GW changes lore so much that they even have a official statement saying its up to players to choose what they feel is right or wrong.
Well, I'm going to have to burn my copies of nightbringer and the rest of the ultramarine novels that mention the C'tan. Bet Ward only did this because he cried at Pasanius losing an arm to the nightbringer. "They hurt ultramarines! Get rid of them!" Crazy aside, I don't care for any of the new fluff especially MORE Necron diplomacy. I liked it when they were the mysterious raiders, not the "Oh hi Ultramarines, now don't shoot for a sec while I run my mouth despite the fact that I am a Xeno and all that" Plus when the hell did Marines start using sir instead of ranks? It really rustles my Jimmies.

This also includes 40k video games and black library fluff being canon. Since it's canon, it's pretty much going to be all over the lore. Ignoring it and making your own is like... Indescribably outcast-ish.

Indescribably outcast-ish.
Where did you get the idea that video games and books come out as fact in 40k? Authors and video game writers make so much shit up in 40k that there are to many holes to actually be plugged. having two people sit down and agree logically what makes sense and what does not is hardly wrong, especially if Games Workshop states thats fine. Warhammer lore is always continuously changing, first Necrons were Imperial Androids, then they became robot Dark Eldar, then they became Terminator in space, now they are a mix of the latter two. So many authors in Black Library contradict each other, and sometimes have personal vendettas against one another. Some describe marines as gods while others have them dying to two guardsmen, you can't take what they say literally because that's something a lot of 40k fans don't understand and look at things like fact rather than taking it with a pinch of salt. The books based off the DoW series contradict the games, the games contradict general lore etc etc, this is why GW says you both have to agree on which makes sense and which doesn't because even they know its a huge clusterfuck. [editline]30th October 2011[/editline]
Well, I'm going to have to burn my copies of nightbringer and the rest of the ultramarine novels that mention the C'tan. Bet Ward only did this because he cried at Pasanius losing an arm to the nightbringer. "They hurt ultramarines!
Crazy aside, I don't care for any of the new fluff especially MORE Necron diplomacy. I liked it when they were the mysterious raiders, not the "Oh hi Ultramarines, now don't shoot for a sec while I run my mouth despite the fact that I am a Xeno and all that"
Mysterious raiders was second edition, third edition had them turned into space terminators. Imperial forces have always had negotiations and temporary truces and even alliances with Xeno forces, its nothing new.
Plus when the hell did Marines start using sir instead of ranks? It really rustles my Jimmies.
Some chapters call each other brother, some sir, due to them being Ultramarines and largely Roman themed its more than likely they would address ranks with position of authority with 'Sir'
Breakdown
Whilst 40K lore is full of contridictions, they're mainly minor. My gripe is the fact that it's not a progression of lore or clarification or minor re-write, it's an outright "That never happened" which breaks several books, leaves several other theorys drifting (Void dragon, Eldar) and even disregarding the lore leaves me with 2 major centrepiece minatures that I can no longer use (which takes big chunks out of my points, and I'd rather not have to purchase new figures for larger games) I'll just order the bits I need to finish my Orlocks and go play Necromunda.
Its one thing to change the specifics of a faction's background, and its an entirely different thing to change what they ARE. They went from enemy of all life to basically the only good guys. I mean what the fuck. As I understand it they want to unite their empires and rebuild their former glory. They are debateably more "good" than even the weeaboos now. At least the last two (or three? I don't remember the "imperial android" part) were killy killy death robots of doom. AKA consistent. Now they just seem like douchebags.
It could be possible, though, that they still have the destruction of all life as the grand masterplan and all their efforts culminate into one big wave of total annihilation. I WANT TO BELIEVE.

We have yet to see the codex fully yet, don't bother jumping the gun with lore; read it for yourself and then pass judgements.
Its one thing to change the specifics of a faction's background, and its an entirely different thing to change what they ARE. They went from enemy of all life to basically the only good guys. I mean what the fuck.
There are still lots of groups in Necron society that wish to destory all life like destroyers or Necron lords in nihilist groups or what have you, Necrons have been given some variation, if you still want terminators in space then you can still play that while if you want some character then you can, its said that there are whole groups of Necrons that still behave like the 3rd edition.
As I understand it they want to unite their empires and rebuild their former glory. They are debateably more "good" than even the weeaboos now. At least the last two (or three? I've actually been playing Necrons for a very long time, my first army, only people I see bitching about new Necrons are DoW players and people who don't actually play them. But fine, we keep having to go over this again and again in this thread but some people are proving more stubborn in than others; Necrons changed. Their 3rd edition lore has not been completely scrapped. They have been given more variation and character. No longer terminators in space. Nothing you can do to stop this. Deal with it.

They threw in the bit about "oh yeah some of us are like robots", and I even think they said they still obey the other Necron empires. I really fucking hate it when you people use this as a defense. Giving the Necrons a vagina does not give them character. Ignoring the fact that they are ass raping the fluff, as in viewing this like they were like this to begin with, its STILL stupid. Very poorly written fluff with inconsistency with the other races out the fucking arse. Which sucks. No shit, but I can voice my opinion, like everyone else who hates these changes. Not the first time they've changed things due to public opinion. Easily the most idiotic statement to use in a discussion/debate/whatever.

They are always changing things. This is why they released that official statement a while back. Plenty of races have seen radical changes to their play style or lore, perhaps you're too young to remember I don't know. 40k has been constant ret-cons throughout its product line. It has seen huge, broad, and sweeping changes to virtually every one of their factions in tone, appearance, goals, background, interactions, attitude, weaponry, etc. etc. This is nothing new to anyone who's been in the hobby for more than 3 years. Prime example of mega lore change, Slaanesh is the one who destroyed Khaine in present fluff. You got a crapload of retcons after that. Like Autarch, Daemon Princes being considered losers by all REAL DAEMONS (thaanks gav), Emperors webway and Golden Throne being much older than Heresy, Twin Primarchs and Alpha Legion following alien Cabals, Space Wolves being revealed as the best Legion who destroys other Legions in the Emperors name, Void Dragon being responsible for humanity's technological advances etc etc. You haven't seen the full codex lore yet, just snippets, you shouldn't form a complete opinion over something that technically has not even been released yet You thinking its stupid or poorly written is just your own opinion, doesn't mean anything here, let me just clarify that to everyone. The problem is you keep complaining, its not like you've voiced your opinion once or twice, but multiple times and its getting obnoxious. Back in my hobby day change was accepted, may not like it but we rolled with the punches, we didn't shout and vent and cry over something we wouldn't be able to change back or continuously bitch about it. Giving Necrons a voice rather than them being another mindless legion of slaves makes them more interesting, what is interesting about robots that go around killing everyone for the pure sake of killing? The only times I'm aware of GW changing things due to public opinion, was a Dark Elf FAQ/errata mostly done by the community, which was given the thumbs up by the author of the Army Book and published in White Dwarf. And a note in the 4th ed Tyranid FAQ, which altered synapse-based ID immunity to be from st8 weapons only, which was changed back to all strength-based ID after a spontaneous storm of outrage swept through the internet. [editline]30th October 2011[/editline] I'm sorry but they've changed, you still have the option to play them like the old lore because it has not actually been completely removed. There's no point in complaining over this, whats it going to achieve? [editline]30th October 2011[/editline] Majority are DoW kiddies who get mad that newcrons don't want to genocide all races (though some might), considering necron codex 3e states they want to enslave us instead.
I think it's a bit refreshing to have an enemy that isn't totally omnicidal. I mean, there's the Tau, but... come on. They'll be dead in a week.
I pissed my pants at the last mission of DoW:WA (i hadn't red any codex yet until DC), the reason was because they were omnicidal beings with only one goal: kill everything. You can still stomp the tyranids (with a large enough boot like that one of Toth) but those metal fuckers just repair themselfs.
The C'tan were just Aliens, so i guess they might not all have been enslaving the Necrons or some escaped (Void Dragon)?
So just got back from the apocalypse game, here are a few pics. My poor proxy Destroyer.
If that Tau hammerhead had been at the back by that arch it could of blown either of the Land Raiders to pieces...
