Oh wow that was absolutely horrible. Bye bye Necron "personality" and being unique, now they are just another race that happen to be skeletal robots. And before someone goes on about how lore changes are good: Take a minute to think, this pretty much makes Necrons into the opposite of what they are supposed to be, people liked them for what they were, if they wanted them to become emotional and shit they would have chosen another race.
Are you serious? How were they not just Skeletal Robots before? They had no 'personality' or 'uniqueness' before - Tyranids covered the 'harvest all life' thing they had and the serving Gods was covered by Chaos.

My god, they're like not terrifying at all anymore. It's like fighting the 'nids. The best thing about the Necrons was that fact you couldn't just kill them off, they had no personality, and all they wanted was to eradicate all life.
The best thing about the Necrons was that fact you couldn't just kill them off, they had no personality, and all they wanted was to eradicate all life.
They never wanted to eradicate all life, they harvested life force for C'tan to feed off while the idea of them being genocidal robots was purely DoW created. You still can't kill them off, thats still in the lore, their leaders are the only ones that have a personality due to a few of the Necrontyr retaining independent thought (this is stated even in third edition), not their legions they control.
Chaps, can we just agree to disagree on the new Necron fluff? The respective arguments (it sucks/ no it doesn't) are old and tired, and people are constantly retreading already covered ground. Some people like it, some people don't. I suggest we go back to laughing at Indrick Boreal or at least something less polarizing. And done to death.
I want one :c Also, just finished my veteran Devastator. Added two purity seals, painted the helmet Scab Red (to fit the theme of my chapter), and made a trophy hanging from a piece of leather off his belt from a Tau firewarrior helmet. Ill upload pics in a few minutes. Edit: Of all the colours Scab Red could look like on camera, why did it have to be bloody pink. Argh.
Is Maelstrom Games Reliable? and also do they sell paints?
Is Maelstrom Games Reliable? and also do they sell paints?
Just took a look at their website, I very much doubt you will have any trouble.
Or some reviews, that would be the best bet. [editline]1st November 2011[/editline] I found this gold:
Andy Chambers, Deus Ex Mechanicus "The foe was terrible to see, their shining metal skulls and skeletons too symbolic to be missed. HERE IS DEATH, they had been built to communicate, in any language, across any gulf of time and to any race."
Looks like GW had the intent to make Necrons more communicative way before Matt Ward was given the order.
Mat Ward presenting his new army
Anyone notice they were fighting the Blood Angels? But to tell the truth, I like the new necrons. I don't always support Matt Ward's fluff changes/additions, but I think he did well with this. The Necrons were so plain before, had almost no style to them as each other race had its own culture. Now they seem more original, as opposed to evil robots that wan't all life gone. Also your C'tan units are not gone, just renamed.

Pretty off topic, but am I the only who found his speech to be somewhat hard to understand? He doesn't enunciate quite enough for me.
Any guides online to painting necrons? I know it's supposed to be super easy, but I don't want to just be covering them in Boltgun Metal.
If you want classic Necron warriors with GW colours: Spray black. Paint major areas tin bitz (pretty much all) Sparingly dry brush boltgun metal. Use very little at first, add more until you're happy but just 1 light drybrush looks great. Paint Snot green onto the tubes of the rifle, add a tiny dab into the eyes (avoid getting too much in there, if you do try black wash to dull it or repaint black) Paint the chest icon with a bit of mithrill silver, then burnished gold over that For the "ash waste" style Necron bases, leave the rim black and with some sand and small rocks on there drybrush codex grey over the sand (lightly) then highlight the bigger rocks with some fortress grey. Pop in the green rod and you're good to go. For more important models you can add highlights and shading by using chainmail along edges and some washes into recesses (avoid flat areas) Necrons are pretty easy to get looking good as well as being very quick to paint large amounts of warriors.
Friends and I started playing the Spacemarine coop. Myself as an Assault, and the rest as devastator marines. Berserker orks are the bane of our existance.
Get on the Thunder Hammer with killing blow. It's slow but god damn does it knock them to pieces. It even kills Nobs no worries, overpowered as all hell.
Get on the Thunder Hammer with killing blow. It's slow but god damn does it knock them to pieces. It even kills Nobs no worries, overpowered as all hell.
Its what I have. Doesn't make them any less of a threat to the devastators though.

If so, what I do as Devastator is take Heavy Bolter Experience (I prefer the hitscan Heavy Bolter to the projectile Plasma Cannon) and get a short distance away from them (Sprint for a little while should do well enough), spin around, drop to my knee, and shoot 'em. The faster firing rate can kill them ridiculously quickly, and they seem to hold up worse against shooting than against melee. I play Devastator almost exclusively and like to think I'm good at it, so if you want advice on playing it (either for yourself or your friends), feel free to ask.
Those aren't even bad, I usually kill them with the bolt pistol when playing devastator. But those combined with the shield fuckers are horrible.
Newcrons are not as bad as previously thought. Overthrowing the C'tan is still stupid, and I still dislike the touchy feely lord crap. The only thing I despise with every fiber of my being is the "DEATH MARKS ARE NOT USED BY ALL NECRON LORDS BECAUSE THE CODE FORBIDS THEIR USE AGAINST HONORABLE FOES". Are you fucking kidding me? Its like Matt Ward has a fetish for combat guidelines. There should be no codes AT ALL for battle in the grimdark fucking 40k universe. Its kill or be killed. The Ultrasmurfs are douches for following the Codex Astartes, and now he is making the Necrons have one too.

If you have artificer armor and an iron halo it shouldn't even matter if they get a bit close.
Although I'm having a strange urge to buy Necrons despite having little money to spend and still have Tyranids I haven't painted. Makes me wish there was an inexpensive way to have someone else paint them. I'm just too afraid that I'll fuck them up.
I dunno Candy, the plasma cannons charged shot wrecks basically everything. If you have artificer armor and an iron halo it shouldn't even matter if they get a bit close.
I roll with Iron Halo and Heavy Bolter Expertise and not much can break the armor. When it does break, though, things tend to be getting really rough for the team as a whole. The whole thing is that you have double armor and then nothing can get close to you because you quickly lay down fire. Overheating's not a problem as long as you pay attention, and the Dev's stop keeps things back in rough times, letting you escape.
You can always go over your mistakes.
Yeah, but doesn't that make it look worse? Painting things over and over.
Yeah, but doesn't that make it look worse? Painting things over and over.
You can always strip back if it gets too bad. Or depending where you are find somebody in a hobby centre to paint for you. You might get a few frowns from elitists, But I've painted some necrons for a guy in exchange for new paint.
Shitty cell phone picture of my most complete Tyranid. I call them "Hive Fleet Kringle".
In 936.M41, a tomb complex awoke on the planet Malbrede due to fighting between the Ultramarines and a Tau expeditionary force. With this new threat emerging, the two enemies joined forces to defeat the emerging Necrons. After the battle, Marneus Calgar committed Exterminatus on Malbrede, but allowed the Tau to evacuate their forces before destroying the world.
