games workshop workshop You need two troops [editline]9th November 2011[/editline] And really, in low-points lists you shouldn't be spending on termies or multiple dev squads. [editline]9th November 2011[/editline] Or a full command squad lol [editline]9th November 2011[/editline] AND YOU NEED A CAPTAIN TO FIELD A COMMAND SQUAD automerges errywhere

I thought you got a captain with the command squad So what should I get?
There's really nothing wrong with liking Ultramarines, hell, the current Space Wolf codex is so embarrassing I can't even read it. And the Long Fangs.
Why's the current Space Wolf codex so bad? I thought you got a captain with the command squad So what should I get?
Well, you should at least get some HQ unit, force commander/commander, chaplain, captain, etc, and two 5 man tactical squads, that's practically the base to a beginner's SM army, but in my opinion, you should just get AO:BR.
Why's the current Space Wolf codex so bad?
One word: wolf It's also the most OP 'dex at this moment
I thought splitting the tac squad into two would work as making them into two troops
They act as two separate units ingame, but combat squads don't count as two separate troops in the Force Organization Chart.
What should I get then?
It really depends on what kind of list you want to make, and at what point count. Do you have someone to play with, and if so, do you know how much points he can field? If he has a big army (>1500pts) you could start by planning an army of about 750 or 1000 points. My local GW only hosts 500pts games (don't know how it's elsewhere), so if you don't have anyone to play with you're gonna have to look at game stores etc. Ask around, what kind of games are standard etc. As for an army theme, it's pretty much what you find appealing. I like fast attack, so my 500pts list has two land speeders + obligatory troops & captain. With 500 or 750pts you don't really have that much choice yet, but in bigger games you can roll full bike lists, footsloggers, mechanized marines, and so on.
I thought you got a captain with the command squad
GW giving free models when they can milk you twice?
So what should I get?
In low-points games either Captain or Librarian are the no. 1 choices. I'd probably go with librarian as the powers are fun. Only reason I don't use one is because I hate the models and due to my chapter fluff.
So my freind told me about his new Grey Knights army.... Jesus H Christ is it fucking powerful. I think my guardsman aren't going to stand a chance..... UNLESS.... COMMISSAR, READY THE INFANTRY CHARGE!!!!! WE WILL CRUSH THEM (with the dead bodies)
Vendettas, meltavets [editline]9th November 2011[/editline] This is the only thing about guard tactics I actually know lol
Whew, going into Games Workshop today made me realise just how goddamn expensive everything was. I'd blissfully forgotten and went in with the intention of starting my new Death Guard army. Realised 7 Death Guard cost me £25 each, Daemon Prince is £20. £70 just for my HQ and Two troop units, and that's excluding the Codex and the paints which I'd probably buy elsewhere.

I definietly want my army to be footsloggers, I got a few friends who are eager to start playing, I think we're going to play the 500/750 pt battles for a long time though ; we're starting out after all, and don't want to get too many units at the start if there is no interest. I don't see the problem with getting a command squad, I can just modify the model and call him a captain, right?
One word: wolf It's also the most OP 'dex at this moment
Have you not read Blood Angels or Grey Knights? One can out cc a swarmlord/alpha army and the other has psychic anti everything zap rays shooting like van der graf generators out of land raiders/rhinos. At least the SW you have consider your options before committing.
Thinking of asking for a Warhammer 40K book for Christmas. What one would be a good one to get? I haven't read any of them, so the first in any series would be good :v:
For even footsloggers you're gonna want dedicated transports for at least the most important squads. I'd suggest starting with a decent all-rounder 750pts list, you should ask /tg/ or someone more well informed in this thread for something decent. Rifleman dreads are always a good bet. A command squad box comes with five models, and you need five models for a command squad. So no, converting one into a captain doesn't really work (well it does, kinda. But you're gonna have to fancy-up some random tac marine and include him in the command squad as a veteran). If one of your friends is interested in playing Orks, definitely get the AoBR set and split the cost. You'll get slightly more than 500pts worth of marines, and he'll get a bit less than 500pts worth of Orks.
Alright, still not interested in AoBR though ; I want to customize my models extensively, and AoBR won't let me do that unless I cut them to pieces and extensive use of green stuff, and I don't want to do that.
Ciaphas Cain: Hero of the Imperium
That was actually the one I was thinking about getting anyways.
Ciaphas Cain: HERO OF THE IMPERIUM
fixed. For actual content: Would you say the blood angels codex (all death company) would adequately represent the rage and fury of angry marines on the tabletop?
Head admin of the W40K wiki is an idiot. This guy shouldn't be in charge.
What a moron. I totally agree with you.
What a moron. I totally agree with you.
Oh hello there, new guy. May the emperor protect.
I spent a few hours reading the wh40k on saturday, thanks for telling me lexicanum is better [editline]8th November 2011[/editline] And does anyone else hate fighting kyras at the end? I mean damn, it takes forever to beat him, he's not even hard
All the DOW2 final bosses were tedious. Only exception being that alpha tyrant, where if you have the right equipment, it dies in seconds.
I wonder how long it would take to defeat "daisy" without using the barrels
I wonder how long it would take to defeat "daisy" without using the barrels
It takes nearly forever, trust me. "Daisy" got stunned too often :\
99% damage reduction does that.
If you don't have something like the Warp Corroding VC or Krooza Krumpa or Gargant Busta, you're not gonna win. You need at least 250 AP on "primarch" to do any damage at all, much less the reduction.
The minimum for a Tactical Squad is 1 Sereant and 4 Marines, so you could have 2 squads of 5 Marines, but you'#re better off having 2 full squads and splitting them up into 4 5 man combat squads.
Oh hello there, new guy. May the emperor protect.
Why thank you my brother. I think I'm gonna be a regular here. Btw, Whats with the box fetish? lol
Why thank you my brother. I think I'm gonna be a regular here. Btw, Whats with the box fetish? lol
So you're new? What are you into, any army preferences, need some referrals for the backstory?
So you're new? What are you into, any army preferences, need some referrals for the backstory?
I meant I was new to the forum. But I've been playing for about...7 or so years. I did Dark Angels for the first 2 years, but ever since then I have been doing Imperial Guard. From the moment I started with them, they've been my favorite race. About a year ago I starting collecting Sisters of Battle. It's only about 1000 Points but its playable. I've wanted to do Necrons, but the army just seems so bland and the codex is pretty old.
The codex was just updated bro
The codex was just updated bro
Really? I haven't picked up a Whtie Dwarf for like a year. My local Games Workshop bunker closed down so I have to get all my shit and head into the city just to play a game, so I hardly go anymore
