AFIK everything outside Codex is Non-canon unless explicitly stated otherwise.
That being said, the 40K universe is so big you could have a massive multi planet crusade (Guants Ghosts) and neatly tuck it under the rug cos nobody else in the Imperium would ever hear about it.

Still reading my Ciaphas Cain collection, on the story where he's [sp]stationed on that planet that's going to be invaded by a Chaos Warfleet[/sp] (I think it's [i]The Traitor's Hand[/i]) and while I'm really enjoying the stories so far, I swear if I read another sentence along the lines of "if I had known just what was waiting for me I would never have gone" then a little part of me is going to die.

Haven't even started. I only ordered the kit yesterday and I got some "dwarf flesh" paint but it's probably not pink enough. The pink he used is pretty good, so I'll order some of that too when I find out.

I think GW has a sort of graded canon.
Core - all codex backstory
Ancillary - everything else. Still cannon, but if a codex backstory goes against it, codex wins.
I grabbed the complete retribution dlc pack today cause it was on sale.

I've got three Rhinos and two Vindicators.
Looks like I have myself an entire fleet of Stormravens.
I always thought that since Warhammer 40k Troop designs (Especially the Imperial Guard) tend to draw largely from the World War eras (1900-1945), that Games Workshop should make some kind of Steampunk tabletop wargame.
Maybe they could call it Warhammer 1900? I don't know, I just thought it was a good idea.
