http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Tarpit Plague Marines are toughness 5, so marines need 5s to wound them with S4 weapons, or in melee. Very few units in 40k that aren't elites or HQs are S5. They get a 3+ armour save, and if that fails they can roll Feel No Pain, unless the enemy are using power weapons or are firing AP1/2 weapons, if I roll a 4 or more, I live. Case in Point, I managed to hold Ulfric the Slayer and his retinue in combat, all had power weapons, for 3 rounds before finally dying. My Plague Champion had a power weapon, he only needed 4+s to wound, and thus kill, while they needed 5+s to wound and kill.
Wow, awesome. Might consider getting some plague marines if i would start collecting Chaos again.
Currently, Plague Marines are the only viable troops choice in the Chaos Space Marines codex. I'm really looking forward to the new codex they will get supposedly somewhat early next year.
So, what do you guys take for 1500 pt Space Marine armies? Ive been reading librarium online lately and after watching 3 Killa Kans get smashed in a single round of Sternguard Combi Melta shooting Ive been thinking of taking a Sternguard suicide squad for a similar purpose. Ive bought a box set of assault termies with lightning claws to go with my Chaplain, which I am definitely using, but what would you guys call "essential" for a Space Marine army?

Remember that Grievous thing that went on in LMAO pics? I found something awesome pertaining to it. Made from Necron & Tyranid parts (according to the creator).

That's really nicely painted, except for the face, which looks like crap.

Chain Axe, Chain sword, Daemon Maul and a Thunder Hammer.
So I was thinking, would it be possible to get a few decent sized models (I don't really know how big they all are, but from what I saw ordinary space marines are tiny, so I'm guessing something at least fist sized) and everything needed for assembling and painting them for a humane price, something like under a 100$? I really wanted to give the construction thing a go, it all looks like I could enjoy the process. Not planning on playing, really doubt I'd find anybody sharing the hobby in the radius of 300 miles from where I am, I just want something intimidating looking over my room and scaring away unwanted visitors, preferably a nasty tank of Tau, SM or IG origin.

Its not much but they're at least fist sized. The Rhinos will cost around 66$ (Combined, individually they're 33$) and paints around 10-20 depending on what you get. The thing is they don't really look deadly, you could try going to Razorbacks which are 2 dollars more expensive but look more heavily armed.

Decided to strip the paint off a few old metal models from back when I hadn't heard of the concept of "thin your fucking paint". Turns out Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner works pretty damn good (left them in it for 4 hours, then scrubbed a bit and most of the paint was gone, only one left is in the small cracks, but that can act as shading). Apparently it barely affected the paint on plastic though.
Or if he wants something bigger than fist-sized, he could get a Land Raider.
True, I saw few and ruled out most heavy support because they're fifty dollars and if wanted two of them he wouldn't have room for paint.
Another work in progress. I have like.. five out of 30 guardsmen finished. :v:
How about a Dread?
They're actually quite small compared to the tanks. They're actually as tall as an Ork Warboss.

So, how does this army sound: Chaplain in termie armour 2 Tactical squads of ten, sergeants have PW Sternguard squad of ten, 2 meltas, 1 RL 2 rhinos with stormbolters and HK missiles (who to put in them?) Termie assault with lightning claws, 5 models Barebones land raider Vindicator

Ewww. But yeah, this advice is pretty sound. Maybe consider a drop pod for the Sternguard for the alpha strike capabilities. Drop the HKs for Sternguard combiweapons, give the Termi Assault Squad at least two TH+SS guys for anti-tank/mc and soaking PW wounds with their 3++.
I get all my Warhammer 40k stuff (paints, models, etc.) on Christmas. The waiting is killing me! Also, I found a Gamestore that I can reach by food in less than 5 minutes, I hope they host games and so on
I hope people are going to make some awesome christmas 40k conversions this christmas, like these: [editline]9th December 2011[/editline]
Is that a rocket launcher on the Sternguard?
