AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA It isn't exclusive to anything, and patriarchs are still completely viable.
I'm saying that the Genestealer army as is represented in those pictures, doesn't exist outside of 40k. I believe Genestealers can be taken as troops in the last Nid Codex, and Broodlords as HQ. But they can't cruise about in Limousines. Sadly. And 40k has a few original ideas. Most are neglected or overlooked in favour of Phwoar SPACE MARINES
When thinning paints whats a good ratio of water to paint?
Why are you raging? He's making a fair statement. I love 40k, I think it's a great setting, the tabletop is fun, it makes a few good novels, the games of it are great. But it's stupid. As said on the previous page, it's all based on 80s Rogue Trader. Sci-Fi to the max. AFAIK, 40k coined the term "Grimdark". Everyone knows that 40k would beat most other Sci Fi universes if it came down to a pitched battle. There're pictures of Emperor Class Titans standing next to Mechs from other universes and a message from some neckbeard beneath saying "40k, just give up now". I can respect that 40k has original ideas. But it's not the best thing since sliced bread, which everyone in this thread seems to think. I mean, when Matt Ward redeemed the Necrons from being Terminators, people raged. Because they weren't soulless killing automatons anymore. Does that not say something about the godawful fanbase that 40k has accumulated? [editline]12th December 2011[/editline] That's the Genestealer Cult army, exclusive to Rogue Trader.
I do think it's the best thing since sliced bread, mate. It's called opinions. I also believe that Matt Ward has ruined the Necrons. Once again, opinions.

W40k isn't really anything 'new', for the space-marines were first mentioned in the 1950/1960's novel "Starship Troopers". [editline]11th December 2011[/editline]
I love the new Necron models and such, but I prefer their old fluff when they were much more scary.
Same.
When thinning paints whats a good ratio of water to paint?
RavenQ told me 2:1 or 1:1 paint to water. I'm working roughly in between and it covers in about 2-3 layers and is smooth. Also I'm paining Ahriman right now. I just got the dark blue robe done and im now working on the white one.
I But they can't cruise about in Limousines.
Oh, the hilarious images of genestealers with bling and huge shades riding in stretched convertibles makes me laugh
W40k isn't really anything 'new', for the space-marines were first mentioned in the 1950/1960's novel "Starship Troopers".
Starship Troopers is one of the most seminal works of Science Fiction of 20th century, right next to Dune.
Someone needs to make a Warhammer 40k version of this, like now.
Pretty sure that the Games Workshop CEO is the lead singer
Pretty sure that the Games Workshop CEO is the lead singer
Just another day in Games Workshop Headquarters
I love the new Necron models and such, but I prefer their old fluff when they were much more scary.
I think they are now honestly. Now, nobody commands the Necrons who drape the flesh of their victims over their metal bodies. They now enter any battlefield. Whenever they want. They kill to obtain more flesh and just as quickly vanish back to their hellish pocket dimension.
Can someone provide a link that summarises all the new lore for the Necrons? I've been out of the 40k lore loop for a while now. Lexicanum is only giving me a vague summary.

[editline]11th December 2011[/editline] Same.
Actually, long before then, in the 30's with the Lensman series (which, came up with a shit ton of sci fi idieas that more or less lots of sci fi series and stuff use.)
W40k isn't really anything 'new', for the space-marines were first mentioned in the 1950/1960's novel "Starship Troopers".
I always hear everyone talking about how Space Marines are based off Starship troopers. How so?
I always hear everyone talking about how Space Marines are based off Starship troopers. How so?
What leads most people to that conclusion is that the both the Space Marines and the Starship troopers primary purpose is to quickly insert onto a planets surface and fuck shit up in power armour. The films aren't a good representation. That's really where the similarities end, though.
I always hear everyone talking about how Space Marines are based off Starship troopers. How so?
well, starship troopers practically invented space marines, then again, so did James Cameron in Aliens
The one on the left looks like a hearse. Also, what's with the Khorne logos everywhere?
Some Genestealer surprisingly decided to worship Khorne/other chaos gods because they still had free will. That is until the hive fleet comes.
well, starship troopers practically invented space marines, then again, so did James Cameron in Aliens
They were the first use of the term space marine. It's the best term we have for them given their role so it's more of a branch like naval marines or paratroopers than a specific group. And the Starship Troopers movie was an abomination. I haven't even read the book and I could see how fucked up everything was. I've got to read the book soon, it's apparently not so insane. [editline]12th December 2011[/editline] Also for Aliens, they had most of the Colonial marine cast read Starship Troopers as character research.
Try to watch the roughnecks chronicles, they're a bit closer to the books. But as starship troopers is concerned. Someone felt this would make a good bookcover for them :P [t]http://www.martinus.sk/data/tovar/_l/114/l114444.jpg[/t] Though keep in mind, that the stuff the troopers in the book use is even more over the top than what warhammer marines tend to wield.

Though it is kind of funny how all the troopers are servants of a police state in the book, but in the film they're FUTURE MEHREENS. Sort of like IG, actually.
They were the first use of the term space marine. ON YOUR BIKE.
I love the new Necron models and such, but I prefer their old fluff when they were much more scary.
So the glorious golden abs dude who made bond villain speeches was scary? "Death" being afraid of mere space marines was scary? Only good thing about oldcrons was the Void Dragon and that's because we know nothing about it. Their forces being "hurr I advance slowly while looking brooding and menacing" got old pretty fast, there's enough mindless killing machines (not literal) in the setting.
Can someone provide a link that summarises all the new lore for the Necrons? I've been out of the 40k lore loop for a while now. Lexicanum is only giving me a vague summary.
Anyone?
Anyone?
This might help.
To be honest, i never really liked Necrons, so i don't have much of an opinion on which version of the Necrons is better. The new Necrons are fairly well fleshed-out, though, unlike the oldcrons.
I'd have preferred a meshing of old and new. Tomb Worlds are in a advanced state of awakening, necron lords programming has been advanced with wider parameters, allowing more independent action, newer units being the result of adaptation and/or advanced state of awakening of the tomb worlds, C'Tan having a less combat presence due to having to withdraw to control the vast swathes of necrons now awake, leaving only a reduced amount of their being able to enter combat, is more how I would have liked it rather than "lolno space tomb kings kthxbai"
So from what I can gather from that 1d4chan page, they retconned the old stuff and got Matt fucking Ward to write new stuff? That is completely different to the old stuff? ಠ_ಠ Actually, after giving it a good read, I have to say, I like where they're going. Don't hurt me :c
The new Necrons are fairly well fleshed-out
heh
