Any new Chaos player who doesn't pick Black Legion (too vanilla) or Iron Warriors (no one does it right) is welcome in my books
I went for my own custom warband, is this bad?
ALSO I need ships for my rogue trader campaign. I want them to start out with a smaller ship so they can have smaller difficulty curve.
Question is, is there such a ship?
the smallest of the rogue trader one is too big with its bazillion men crew and the biggest small I could find was the thunderhawk, but it has two problems:
1: it's less than 100m or so in lenght,
2: it has no bridge,
3: it has a crew of only 20 (atleast 70 would be nice)
4: no cargo capacity
Ideally a ship crewed by around 20 or more people with a nice, big cargo space, space faring capacity, very good range. No warp travel isn't a drawback.
So, do I need to pull a ship out of my ass or is there something that would fit allready existing.
I could technically retrofit military vessels.
While the Tyranids do lose something when fighting Necrons or getting hit with an Exterminatus, it's so miniscule compared to their entire army. They are galaxy eaters, there really isn't anything that can possibly hold back the Tyranids except perhaps opening a massive gate to the warp and having the Daemons fight them.
It's a major loss for a hive fleet if the majority of the fleet is committed to stripping a system and suddenly half their bio-ships and all that biomass committed to the ground is denied from them

Just pull it out of your ass. 40k has intersystem trade and thus civilian ships exist. As the fluff focuses on the war, not Imperial civilians, these are never really mentioned.
kay I'll do a ship portrait and map onto my character portraits sheet

Make shit up, that's the beauty of PnP.
I had my bunch of friends assault a small (100m, bridge/engine/crew quarters/armory, warpdrive) pirate vessel that they got to use as their HQ.
As long as what you're making up is plausible go with it.
Doop de doo, painting my terminators. I like this paint station, keeps me organized.
paint station feels like a waste of money to me.
It was a gift.

And its better than what I was working on previously.
Looks like your typical Citadel product. Flimsy, plastic and overpriced. It's cool if you have nothing else though. I just have a special section of my desk dedicated to 40K.
The finecast stuff is so weak to be honest that they actually brought out special files so you can clean them, though I just use a knife because my hand is steady enough.

Still I like that metal is going to resin, because I'm a huge converter and this opens up many more unique possibilities for me.

Actually its quite handy, if a bit overpriced, but thats not something unexpected from GW.
Man, Warmachine looks awesome.
Speaking of overpriced. I wonder is China does cheap W40k ripoffs. They can't be that bad, it's not like you're going to hammer nails with them.
If a proper 40k movie is ever made they need to essentially copy the whole Klendathu Drop scene from Starship Troopers

Just replace bugs with Tyranids and a bigger slaughter
Just replace bugs with Orks/Few CSM and loudsa heretics and we have more interesting story. Don't popup any normal or abnormal space marines though.

How come no one does Iron Warriors right? What is so hard about them?

Plastic GW parts and models are somewhat difficult to do a knock off of, (well, some parts anyway) since making them out of plastic wouldnt be an option as the molds cost a fortune, so they'd have to do it with resin or something, but even then, resin minatue making is kinda dfficult to do if the original plastic ones you're copying have undercuts and stuff.

Not really ripoffs... but the prices are better.
that site thezipfile posted has had reports on it to have better quality than forgeworld models.
Plus they sell skulls by the pound price!
pondering spending my christmas money on chainmail rings, pondering doing a 7" x 7" square of chainmail from steel and having brass/bronze rings to make an aquila in the middle of it. What do you think?

"Major Loss"
Galaxy. Fucking. Eaters. They give no shits if one planet is lost to them.
each hive fleet is essentially it's own force though, it is a HUGE loss if they loose a planet, especially in the later stages of consumption, nothing gained everything lost, we've had this discussion before...

You really underestimate the size of hive fleets, the most the imperium encounters are either the very leading edges, or spliters of said edges.
I know they're massive I'm just saying that a lost planet isn't a small deal
Merry Christmas from Papa Nurgle.

(shwig's art, not mine)
Now we get into the whole scale of power dibate. As much 40k stuff varies from work to work it's hard to tell how powerful any one faction is.
We can take the blanket anti-inconsistency theorm and say they are all as "powerful" as each other and that win/loss in any one battle is due to circumstance. This means we can maintain that 40k brand of status quo we all know and love.

Exactly. A single planet is NOTHING to them.

It is a very tiny dent in their forces. It is like trying to kill a guy with a spoon.

Also, since I am poor, should I go directly for IG Models and Codex or should I try out the Assault on Black Reach so I can get small rulebook and get used to gluing/painting?
Winner for IG.
Tool for AoBR.
AoBR gets you 2 roughly 500 point armies, they're not regular figures though, they're snap together, which means minimal assembling is required, it also gets you blast templates and the mini rulebook
My advice, go with AoBR then decide whether you liek Orks or Marines most.
