This thread inspired me to reinstall Heroes 5 because I never really played much of it (after playing hundreds and hundreds of hours of Heroes 3). But I hate it. 3-D just looks and feels terrible for this sort of game. The closer this is to Heroes 3, the better.
Less green more grey please.
Also there's a Russian game convention (I think) next week, we'll probably be seeing some hopefully big news on H6.
Yeah, it's called Igromir and is happening tomorrow. I won't be there, sadly. My friend has a birthday so I'm a true bro. There's so much shit I'm missing. :frown: Anyway, Inferno looks pretty okay.

Yeah, cute doesn't really fit Inferno. I know I'm like a broken record, but look at H3's Inferno: That gives a feeling of despair and fear, on the other hand: This doesn't. At all.
"Combat has gone back to the old initiative system of HoMMIII, with some improvements." :smug:

I liked the Tormentor compared to the rest of the Inferno lineup though (still looks overdone, but at least it's new, more or less).
I write without delay that was brightly postponed from the 3-sentry of "a torment of the producer": 1) The system of heroes abilities is completely reprocessed. Now there are no primary and secondary skills or abilities, aren't present perks, there are no separate spells. All abilities which hero can receive, now earning by "ability points". This system is similar to system World of Warcraft. 2) About magic I wasn't described: now magic is ability too, so magic spells are added as ability, instead of are learned in Magic guild or somewhere. (Accordingly, the Magic guild is eliminated). 3) Depending on reputation the hero can choose one of three directions: Life, Death and Neutral and to receive corresponding Advanced class. Initially in each fraction two classes of heroes: Might and Magic, then occurs a branching on Advanced class (3 possibilities), total it turns out on 6 various types of heroes Advanced classes in each race. These types are really unique, as besides racial abilities there are also «class abilities». 4) The Beta test will be obligatory, and «extending circles», gradually covering all most part of "fans". And these "circles" will start with offices Ubisoft to France and the USA, and also from Hungary (where Heroes are developed) and Romania (where they are "plentifully tested). At present still it is considered that game is at an alpha version stage as not still placeholders are replaced with real elements. 5) The Fourth race won't be divulged yet. 6) Dragons will disappear in Heroes VI as units of 7th level, but will appear in it as "bosses". It is made intend: too strong units dragons turn out but if absolutely to clean them from game – it turns out boringly (and doesn't match the game Universe). 7) The Damage magic will be strongly weakened, that the Magic-hero couldn't take out the whole army of Might-hero almost alone. The magic will play "a support" role along with another traditional abilities. ALL WRITTEN ABOVE SHOULDN'T BE UNDERSTOOD AS TRUE IN LAST POINT. I HAVE WRITTEN THAT AS I HAVE UNDERSTOOD.
Translated so it's in Engrish. No 4th race at Igromir sadly. Also I'm not sure I like the new ability and magic system, I'll wait for more info before judging though.
I really hope the Inferno champion isn't the Pit Fiend/Pit Lord, it would just be meh. It better be Devils, and they better be badass and terrifying like in 3. Seriously you can make a 100 metre tall flame monster with 600 swords, 16 spikes and 36 fangs but it will just look overdone and not intimidating at all. The H3 Devils instead with their simple design and the fact they never walked instilled more dread than any amount of fire or sharp things.
Remember guys, it's still just Concept art. Stuff probably gets changed.
Skeletons can fling a spear. Ghosts can cast some support spell on allies. Liches can cast a spell on allies and pass the received damage to the chosen unit as health points. Unupgraded vampires can teleport too. According to Ervan, necromancer's 7th level unit will be a semihuman/semispider, it being can become (not absolutely clearly – to divide into two beings or to turn into two different beings). About 6th level unit no info. The Griffin’s Battle Dive now works a little on another – he attacks not a cell in the field, he attacks chosen unit, independently there was it on the same place or has moved. 10 big bosses (more than 2õ2 cells) already made.
Guess we know 6 out of 7 units for Necropolis then.
After the 4th and 5th game, I can't fathom another Heroes game living up to the 3rd. I mean, 4 and 5 can be fun in small doses, and I once spent a loooong-ass time playing a hotseat game with my friend on the 4th game's XL map (took months of playing on and off, and we both ended up with tons of creatures and godly heroes) but 3 is the game I just keep coming back to time and time again. I think the biggest factor to me is that the grid systems in both the overworld and the combat screens have a really clean, organized feel to them. In the 4th game, it seemed weird to me that monsters would sometimes move over to you on the world map if you hadn't quite reached them, and I could NEVER make heads or tails of that game's battle grid. But in the 5th game, the battle grid just feels a little too simple. A square-based system is pretty plain as opposed to the hex system. Of course, other huge factors in the third game's lasting appeal are the higher number of towns, higher number of creatures, and a random map generator. If the 6th game could at least have those things, I could forgive a square-based battle grid and a confusing overworld map. Plus the 4th and 5th games seemed sturdily fixed on giving everything a cartoony look, as well as some goofy animations and sound effects...

Sadly, the factions, artstyle and such weren't that good. Seriously it just lost lots of charm with the new factions and style. Just compare Necropolis, Inferno and Dungeon in H3 with the ones in H5. That's were H3 struck gold. I'm not going to comment on style and factions/creatures in HoMM4 because I'd just write a 5-page rant.
1 word to describe the game is overdone.
1 word to describe the game is overdone.
6? Yeah. Better than how it was in 5, but it's obvious they toned it down due to complaints, might as well do what most people ask and ditch the overdone look and go back to the H3 style. They say that while 5 was a cartoon, 6 will be a comic.
I don't like what I see so far. I prefer the map of the 5th.
[img_thumb]http://i55.tinypic.com/2zs771u.jpg[/img_thumb]
Yeah pretty much. They really should remove the dual wielding.
Looks very, Shiny. And detailed. Too much details.
Looks very, Shiny. And detailed. Too much details.
Especially the swords. Remove one sword and it'll be ok (well actually there is a lot more stuff that could be improved, but at least please don't have them dual-wielding).
I don't like the fact that the units are nearly the same. Yeah, they have minor differences but most of the heaven looks like in HoMM5. Still can't wait for this.
Angels with dual wielding? They should have one long long sword, imo.
Remember guys, it's still just Concept art. Stuff probably gets changed.
This is true. Often concept art is much more overdone than the actual in-game representation.

Plus, the cursor sometimes turns into the icon of the horse rearing up when it's not hovering over something you can interact with, which throws me off to no end. I wish they could improve the graphics without fucking with the layout everyone got used to. The Civ games have managed to do that pretty well. Granted Civ 5 uses a hex grid instead of a square one, but it's still as intuitive as Civ 4.
Also what the hell guys?Whats wrong with the fucking ghoul. He looks like he came out of a catroon with that big ass head of his.I would love to see a rotten zombie with a fucking cleaver instead of that thing like in Heroes 3.
I think since the skeleton became ranged, they needed a basic melee fighter. The zombie was slow, and would be really hurt before it reached ranged units. They needed a more speedy design (I really can't imagine a zombie running)
Well, it was kinda the downside for the Necros was that most of the units are fucking slow. The skeletons moved to the other side of the grid in like 5-6 rounds or something. I thought that this was made especially for the balance?
More Alpha footage (still placeholder UI, no town screens etc.): http://heroes.ag.ru/h6/video/Heroes_VI_Igromir_by_Heroic_Corner_full.wmv [editline]6th November 2010[/editline] Also in 6 Necros are supposed to be very defensive, outlasting their opponent by poisoning and cursing while resurrecting their own. I am a bit sad that Magic is being balanced so it doesn't annihilate Might, but it's for the better. Anyone remember Implosion from H3? I remember playing a really long hotseat in Heroes 3 with a friend in which we were at the point were you count units in thousands (in the game it appeared 34k instead of 30000), and even the 7th tier creatures were approaching the thousands. I was Necropolis with Sandro and he was Inferno with a might hero. My Implosion (improved to affect all units) fucking wiped the floor with him, killed like thousands of low-tier units and around 50 tier 7s, each times I cast it.
New boss revealed:
Mother Namtaru is the incarnation of Asha and controls Death, Time and Space (hence the 3 faces).
[editline]6th November 2010[/editline] The better stop revealing bosses, "incarnation of Asha" can't possibly be a low-tier boss, I wouldn't want them to spoil the final or semifinal boss.

Playing with mods or something? I'm pretty sure that even with expert earth magic, it's only a single-target spell. I always preferred to use berserk on them. It's like a better version of hypnotize, what with the area effect and the fact that it actually WORKS. I think H4 made might somewhat better, or maybe it was just in a really long game. I mentioned earlier the months-long hotseat game I played with a friend in an XL map. Well, I was using the might city in that game, and my hero never learned a single form of magic. Eventually, she was stronger than any of my unit stacks in combat. My friend had his character do pretty much the opposite of me, learning every form of magic possible. We were allied in that map, so we never got to find out who was really stronger.
