4th faction is Stronghold I uhh... don't know what to say. I really did not expect it, it's Stronghold in the jungle? So is this the brand new faction? Also that gives us a Both/Might/Magic/Might and Good/Evil/Evil/Neutral (?) (Haven/Inferno/Necropolis/Stronghold), so the next one has to be a good magic-heavy faction? I'm confused, I thought I more or less knew what it would end up as, but I was wrong it seems. [editline]15th December 2010[/editline] Apparently it's called Fortress.
Looks cool.
Looks cool.
They do (it's still not H3 Fortress though :saddowns:). Champion will probably be Cyclops. Now I wonder what the 5th one will be. Maybe they'll surprise us all and make a water-based faction (people have been pleading for it since... H2 I think). [editline]15th December 2010[/editline]
[del]Jungle[/del] Plains/Grassland (spring and autumn) [del]Volcanic[/del] [del]Wasteland[/del] Underground.
Now, we have 2 terrains left. One of the Grasslands is Haven, the other one might be the next faction (but another faction in grassland? Can't really imagine anything too exciting since we already have Haven). We also have Underground, which could easily be Dungeon (Faceless are out since Inferno is already going for that style partially). But we've had Underground in several Heroes and to my Knowledge none have had an Underground faction (even Dungeon had it's own above-ground tileset). What I had not taken in consideration is that the devs might be tricking us, leading us to speculate and theorize on the tilesets while the 5th (which they said will be completely new and very surprising) might be on water. Because water could very well be considered a seventh tileset.
Alright new info: Core unit: the Goblin Goblins are "degenerate" Orcs, who were originally "failures" in the Orc experiment, born from the blood of lesser demons (mostly Imps). Goblins are small (between 4 and 5 foot tall), scraggy, physically weak, but very swift and agile. The average Goblin is devious, cowardly, and stupid. They rarely attack unless having the numbers of a mob, preferring sneak attacks and (poorly constructed) booby traps. In the Orc armies, Goblins serve as servants, scouts, skirmishers, and sometimes sacrifices for the Shamans, missiles for the Cyclops to hurl, or even food if rations become too low... The Goblin Hunter is the upgraded Goblin. They won their freedom during the Revolt of the Beastmen. The Orcs adopted them as allies and see them as favored children of Father Sky. The Harpies who settled in the Pao islands were created from various tropical raptors native to the Eastern jungles, which explain their multi-colored plumage. The Fury is the upgraded Harpy. Core unit: The Mauler Lightly armored and heavily armed, the Orc Maulers are the basic front-line (basic front-line troops, foot soldiers, grunts) of the Stronghold hordes. Their usual tactic is simply to rush straight at the enemy, counting on their numbers, speed, ferocity and toughness to break the opposing lines and pound the hell out of them. Their heavy shields are not a decorative item, but used to deflect the incoming missiles that are inevitably hurled from the enemy ranks. The Crusher is the upgraded Mauler. Fortress line-up seems to be: Fortress: Core: Mauler/Crusher, Harpy/Fury, Goblin/Goblin Hunter Elite: Centaur, Shaman, Cheftain Champion: Cyclops
I really like how they've kept this Fortress atmosphere, the tribal details and all that stuff. I wasn't much of a fan of them in the H3 but I'm sure the new Fortress is definetly worth to give a shot at.

I like them, much better atmosphere than H5 Stronghold. Also the whole game seems to have a much better atmosphere and look, judging by the in-game images.
Looks like a cross between Fortress and Stronghold, with a touch of Dungeon (just because of the harpies' presence)
Also is it just me, or do the units look a lot better in-game than in the artwork? Probably because it's not as detailed, and therefore not as overdone. [editline]17th December 2010[/editline]
Looks like a cross between Fortress and Stronghold, with a touch of Dungeon (just because of the harpies' presence)
Yeah they also have a touch of Aztec, in my opinion these Orcs>Stronghold Orcs (at least H5 Stronghold). [editline]17th December 2010[/editline] Also that big Orc with the claws and skull-helmet looks awesome.
Also that big Orc with the claws and skull-helmet looks awesome.
At first I thought it was the Behemoth from the H3's Fortress because of it's hugeness and claws. But I'm okay with cyclops.
At first I thought it was the Behemoth from the H3's Fortress because of it's hugeness and claws. But I'm okay with cyclops.
I don't think it's the Cyclops though, I think the one standing in front of the gate here: Is the Cyclops, while the one with the claws and stuff is probably a Chieftain or something.
Also, HoMM medley: Pretty damn awesome, if only it was recorded better. [editline]18th December 2010[/editline] Oh damn you automerge, I didn't mean to bump.
New Cyclops (I'm guessing it's the upgraded one). Looks pretty awesome.
It looks like the 5th faction has been leaked, and this time I'm not going to get fucked up the arse when they delete the info and I'm left without evidence: Note this is all speculation, no idea if it's actually true or not, but it would fit with the fact that the faction would be new, it's a water faction (which is what was left), and the Christmas leak (their Facebook posted a Christmas tree with all the balls having a different face on it, a few hours after it was removed as one of the balls was showing something reminiscent of a Medusa) was showing the face of the Pearl Maiden, so it al fits. [editline]9th January 2011[/editline] Also these aren't the final artworks as you can tell by them being very rough compared to the ones we usually get. The Kappas look a bit :downs:
The Wave and Tide Warriors and other unites were inspired by japanese history, and it's just in your face. Looks pretty cool however.
New screenshot: That looks damn good. And faction reveal video: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/mightmagicheroesvi/video/6286236/might--magic-heroes-vi-faction-reveal-video Going to update only for bigger things from now on, no point in updating for every little quote from a dev now anymore. [editline]17th January 2011[/editline]
The Wave and Tide Warriors and other unites were inspired by japanese history, and it's just in your face. Looks pretty cool however.
Yeah, Snow/Ice Maiden look like Geisha too, and the Kirin is obviously inspired by the Eastern dragons (and the Kappas are from a Eastern mythology too I think).
Kirin looks awesome.
I'll update the OP tomorrow morning (won't be home until late tonight). [editline]11th March 2011[/editline] I've been sneakily updating the OP all this time though, so might be some new info there (newer than the bump before this one). [editline]11th March 2011[/editline]
Kirin looks awesome.
Yeah the water faction looks great (ingame too, will put screens of it in the OP tomorrow), especially the Kirin. [editline]11th March 2011[/editline]
Also, the following is pure rumour, but some guy over at HC who supposedly is/was member of the "secret forum" (and he was a moderator of HC, and the devs said they contacted the most active members, so it wouldn't be strange if he was really member of the secret forum) leaked quite a lot of info just after announcement (and I think I copied that post down in a .txt file on my other computer, I'll check tomorrow), but was deleted soon after. Now the interesting thing is that he listed around 15 things (from gameplay changes to technicalities), which no one believed at the time. Now that we got some updates, turns out about 7/12 of the things he said have been revealed to be true, while the other 5/12 haven't been discussed or revealed yet. According to him, the 5th faction is indeed Naga, and Sandro will be back (also funny thing is, that around 5 weeks after he posted that the HoMMVI official Facebook posted stuff about the old Heroes heavily hinting at Sandro being in HoMMVI). I wouldn't post rumours usually, but since his rumours have been pretty much 100% true up until now...
I knew it. That guy wasn't lying at all, it really was Nagas. It's fair to assume Sandro willl be back too.
me and a friend used to play this series for months while growing up. I would like to get the new one but I honestly cannot see my myself paying that much money for the game. Ill wait till a steam sale and get on the cheap.
Updated the OP. Also here, have a awesome looking Kirin:
Nothing beats HoMM 3, but this at least looks better than the fifth one. I might buy it at a sale sometime.
I admit that I only ever played a little HoMM 3, so my 'real' introduction to the gameplay style was King's Bounty, which was awesome. I might actually have to pick this up, it's looking quite great.
Updated the OP. Also here, have a awesome looking Kirin: [img_thumb]http://nsm05.casimages.com/img/2011/03/10//1103100746361266187794209.jpg[/img_thumb]
Gorgeous.
Played 5 only and loved it despite the repetiveness and it being kinda annoying at times.
Also, Steam says release date is 27th May.
Delayed until June 23rd it seems, at least according to UbiShop France.
Delayed until June 23rd it seems, at least according to UbiShop France.
The day after my Birthday. :smug:
The day after my Birthday. :smug:
Well not anymore, it's been delayed until September :smithicide:
Damn. Damn. Guess I'll have to play Duke Nukem until it comes out.
I don't want this thread to die! The game looks REALLY promising. What a shame is that propably they will never be able to recreate the IIIrds atmosphere. But if they make a 7th game, I hope they will get back to the simplistic, and pretty much stereotypical looks. I loved how when playing Necropolis in III, the music was just... flowing. It was so suggestive, everytime I went into the city screen, it sent shivers down my spine. I imagined a huge ball, a dance where everyone there was just a skeleton. Hundreds of skeletons, all dancing to the same melody. It really gave the impression of the undead being just... puppets. Any new news around by the way?
I don't want this thread to die!
It was already kind of dead but it's always like that before the game's release date's month. The Deus Ex HR thread wasn't popular at all until there appeared some new trailers and information. Considering the game won't be as cool as HoMM3 I guess I'll still like it because I will be judging if this is an improvement over the last game.
