acds, wanna setup a M&M 3 game ?
Sorry can't, have a driving license test at 13:00 (doubt we'd have time to do much in 30 minutes, I'd have to leave midgame).
[del]Not even sure I can find my old H3 CDs now that I think of it.[/del] Nevermind have the Heroes CE with all of them.
I'll be updating the thread with more impressions this evening/tomorrow, or as soon as I get time to play it some more anyway.
acds, in every Heroes you had to visit different places and so on to gain additional gold. It was rather annoying to use your hero every week to get those funds, is this still the same in Heroes VI or did they change that a bit?

I'm not sure of what you mean. If you mean that you had to run around collecting the small piles of gold and capturing gold mines, then yeah it's still like that (though gold mines can't be taken by a single 1-imp hero like before, now they can only be blocked and once that enemy hero leaves it will go back to being yours).
If you mean that every week you had to search for gold otherwise the town itself would not sustain the creatures you had to buy, then it's moreso now. It seems that creatures cost quite a bit more, even with a fully upgraded town I had troubles paying for all the new recruits.

If anyone has any more questions post them, I'll answer them when I can (likely this evening).

Well, it's hard to explain. It's just that some of those buildings and places needed to be repeatly vistited once a week to get any ressources from it. Which was actually pretty annoying, I thought they added a function to automaticly gain those ressources for your empire.

Ah you mean the mills and shit. No haven't seen any of those yet.
Now I'm quite sure the AI cheats like a fucker even on medium, got to building the first 3 unit buildings and the first level of fortification and the fucker arrives with a huge army and slaughters me. It simply had not been going for enough turns for him to have such a massive army, even if he had all the structures up since the start the growth rate of the creatures simply was not high enough.
Check this if you want more information. The Yogscast is showing the game.
Some dislike Lewis and Honeyjew but Lewis did a good job on showing the game.

The animations look terrific.
Those town windows are incredibly underwhelming, is it so hard for them to improve off what HoMM3 had?
Going to the town window in HoMM3 felt like you were actually in the town, and the town teemed with liveliness (or anti-liveliness for Necropolis). This just seems like you're passing by.

I think it's because 2D does not scale well with different resolutions, which would be a good point if it wasn't that even the old H3 town screens scaled up to 1920x1080 look better than the ones we have now (also again, the townscreens in H6 are not 2D they are 3D so what the fuck).
Also they could just make 3 town screen variants (one 4:3, one 16:9 and one 16:10) at a high resolution (1920x1080 or a bit higher for 16:9) then compress it down to the players resolution (or scale it up, either way usually the player base won't have much lower or much higher resolution than, say, 1920x1080 or whatever so it wouldn't look too bad at all).

-Major artifacts are persistent and can actually level up.
Correction: It seems that Dynasty artifacts (which I think is a level higher than major) are persistent and level up. Also artifacts seem quite a lot more interesting now.
Also for the AI cheating: It might be that it beelined straight for the neutral towns and dwellings and made up a huge army. Either way even with aggressive AI turned off the AI is way more aggressive than I remember it in previous Heroes, so if you are going to play it in a relaxed manner put the difficulty on something low (beta is locked on medium though).
The town windows have to be a joke. They look so bad it's not even funny.

(neither of the above done by me, but they illustrate the point well)
Someone made a comparison of the screen sizes too:

Note how the current ones are at lower res than H3 (and smaller).
I really hope these are not final, because otherwise I'd rather have a still artwork that doesn't move and/or update than this.
Damn. Really hope they'll improve this by the time of release.

According to the latest Q&A, no (they said there won't be time to change the town windows). I'd imagine they'll add AA and fix some glitches, but other than that they'll stay the same (good thing I don't play Haven, because that thing is absolutely horrible).
Anyway some more stuff:
-Blacksmiths are gone, seems that you automatically have catapults and tents/carts are gone (why would they do that? all it does is remove depth).
-As we already knew magic guilds are gone and instead we have a skill/ability/spell tree. Sadly the spell tree only has 3 levels (so it's not really a tree, more like 3 rows which are only some times connected, most of the time you do not need the previous spell to acquire the new one) and each school has very few actual spells, most are just skills that add a stat (like +2 spellpower) or buff another spell (like +1 turn duration to the freezing effect).
-Towns have a shared creature pool. If you have Town A with +5 Skeletons/week and capture Town B with +7 Skeletons/week then both town will have +12 Skeletons/week (they are shared, so if you recruit 12 in one they will be depleted in the other town too). I greatly preferred caravans.
-Towns and dwellings can be instantly converted to your faction (a Haven town can be immediately converted into a Necropolis). Again just feels like it removes depth and decisions.
I'm still asking myself every second that I play, why the FUCK did they not keep the 3D towns? 2D has scaling problems fine, use 3D. "It's heavy on the hardware and is slow on older computers!" Well have you fucking seen the rest of the game? It's not exactly lightweight and light is it with all those effects, shadows and shit?
Sometimes I wonder what developers were thinking.
seems like they dumbed it down. And I haven`t played Heroes V, but in 3 you get catapults automatically and they never disappear.

Yeah you get catapults, but they also removed ballistas, carts and tents.
I never thought I'd say this, NEVER, but the screens in Heroes 4 were better than these...

Also worth noting that some of the townwindows actually look worse in motion.
I went ahead and pre-ordered this. Mostly for nostalgia.
Hopefully it's good.
I have 5 and the expansions if anyone wants to play that.
Bumping this because of new trailer and concept art:

If it isn't Sandro behind that gate I'll eat my beard. Also because there has been rumours of returning heroes all over the place, then they release this:

Sorry, everything I've seen of this makes me think I'm better off sticking with Heros V and its expansions.
Sure the graphics are neat but it seems like they really dumbed it down.
And those town screens are a joke, how they thought that was a good design choice I don't know.
That trailer looked really cool. I like those animated movies.
Although a bit short, but nevertheless it looks awesome.

I can't speak for the finished product, only for the beta, but yes Heroes V, hated as it was by the community, was a better Heroes than this one.
I'm still going to play it, but this is as much a proper Heroes game like IV was (maybe even less).

Just a teaser for the trailer, which will be released on the 17th (when Gamescom starts).

Wait. Heros V is hated by the community?
Why?

Before the expansions it wasn't as good as it is now (with TotE it became much much better), but yeah I've never understood it either. A lot were pissed about the 3D townscreens and whined that they were too slow and clunky, so now we got these shitty town windows instead.
What pisses me off the most is that we're going to have to wait at least 6 years for another HoMM that maybe will get it right, because 3 resources, 3 creature levels and the town windows aren't bugs that will be fixed in an expansion.
Personally I loved the amount of detail that went into the town screens in Heros V but ok.
The Academy (i think, the one with the gremlins) was awesome.
Its probably the whole 'Heros is too slow a game for competitive play' argument I've seen tossed around.

I liked them too, and yeah saying "OMG GAME IS TOO SLOW FOR MY MLGH PR0 REPLAYZ" is the dumbest fucking argument I've ever heard. That's not what HoMM is supposed to be about.
Or hey wait I've got a genius idea! How about keeping the 3D townscreens, but then also having another button that brings up an UI from which you can manage the entire town without entering it? It would be faster than this (no town model at all), easy to make (it's just a small window with buttons) and wouldn't rape the feeling of the game.
Real pros play Heros with a average apm of 200.
I really liked HoMM5, it was nicely designed and had some really polished gameplay mechancis. Although it was really hard at first but a patch fixed that later on.
Still I like the game with it's expansions. Usually I don't dig 3D graphics in strategy games, I prefer old school 2D games. But HoMM5 had a good style which fit well with the universe.
The fact that TotE added a second unit upgrade choice for every unit in the game really added so much more variety to the game too.
Although I don't like the style of the Orcs. Looked to childish for my taste.
Seems like the (or at least some) alpha testers (the guys that the devs have been in communication with for pretty much the whole dev cycle to make sure the community would love H6) are pretty damn pissed too, apparently they've been telling the devs that the town windows, balance and such were fucked and had to be changed, but they were ignored.
Also I'm extremely worried about the hero skill trees, each school has 1-2 offensive spells and 1-2 defensive/buff spells, the rest are just buff to spells or buffs to the hero.
There is a rumour that the delay is to make better town windows, but a month wouldn't be enough so until I see a source on it I won't give it any heed.
Full version of the trailer, you get to see what's behind the door: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gc-11-might/719097
[sp]Hints of old heroes coming back, trailer is named to hint towards it, green=necromancers leads you to believe it's Sandro (considering it apparently "leaked" that he will be in the game, and his bio of legacy Heroes pretty much tells it outright), actual trailer releases, it's just some skeletons. Fuck you Ubi.[/sp]
