Two panels for each route is the average, and you go through about two hours of story per route. So yeah no I wouldn't say it's a lot. IIRC Hanako's sex scene was a grand total of two images and four dialogue boxes, and there was another twenty minutes of story after it.
Also it's not really porn so much as it is the culmination of a romance plot. The sex scenes are tasteful and brief, and not the focus of the game.

I feel like a huge gay for defending this, but the sex scenes do provide narrative exposition. The represent how closer the main character has become with one of the girls. The sex acts push the game into either a good or bad path at that point, depending on the context of what exactly happened. Also the fact that the "sex scenes" ammount to nothing more than still frames and are softcore at best would mean that if this can be considered a porno, then anything else with a sex scene should also be considered a porno, which someone else already said.

I have to strongly disagree.
Sex scenes in most arcs are just pushed in there so that there is sex.
For an example, in Hanako's arc, [sp]You didn't even kiss her yet and you're actually having sex with her.Plus the fact that you abused of her more than anything, it's not very fucking romantic. [/sp]
For another example, in Shizune's arc, [sp]There is almost no romantic evolution between shizune and Hisao, and they just start fucking at random. [/sp]
Sex in Katawa Shoujo is nothing more than to appeal the masses. It does not help the story in any way. Emi's arc is the shameless example of that.

I disagree on Hanako's. [sp]After the scene, Hanako directly says to Hisao that she had sex with him so that he would stop thinking of her as a daughter figure that he needed to protect, and would think of her more as a girlfriend. She said she was sick of everyone treating her like that. So yeah I thought it was handled pretty well.[/sp]
