I'm not entirely sure what the gist of discussion is or whether what I'm about to write has already been said, but seeing it makes me want to point out that Hanako's [sp]more sudden change of behavior towards the closure of her arc can be partially attributed to Lilly's and Hisao's previously protective stance around her. Her disbelief in someone truly wanting to be her friend in combination with the terrible way she views herself up until act 4 makes her think her reclusive and introverted behavior is what's keeping Lilly and Hisao around her. The way I understood, she's reluctant to drop her "walls" partially because she is afraid of what might happen if Hisao no longer has to fulfill the role as her "protector". In other words, Lilly/Hisao's self-appointed jobs as her social guardians actually kept her from developing, while at the same time her lack of development was the cause of their concern; catch-22. This means that as soon as Lilly goes away and the cat is out of the box with Hisao, she feels safe to open up.[/sp]
