I didn't because A) I knew it was a trap choice B) From a logical standpoint it's a retarded decision and I couldn't choose the option with risk of death as being one of the outcomes even if I knew that wouldn't happen. Am I the only one who would have preferred it if Miki replaced Emi? I don't mind Emi or anything, its just that they're both so similar and I personally prefer Miki. I mean they're both runners, they both have missing limbs, and they're both cheerful and teasing. You could probably swap them without having to change too much plot wise.

You can try to take choices that either heavily point to a single character, or check out the flowchart in the OP to get past the festival without getting that ending. You can drop them later to allow for an experience that's more fun.

I got Emi on my first run simpy because I would always try to pick the choices that would presumably put me the closest to a girl physically, and with Emi that happens to drive the player straight into her path more so than any of the other. By the same means I almost ended up on Shizune's arc (got a related picture I didn't get any other time around), too. I didn't think much about Hisao over-straining himself at the track because I honestly didn't think the game would have the balls to kill my character that early on.
