Is it me, or am I actually learning stuff from this? I mean, not actually learning things, but some of these stories really make me try to look differently at some of the things around me, and I've realized one or two new things. I don't know, maybe I'm just looking too deeply into things.

Oh boy, thank god you haven't played Clannad yet.
it's like this, but with a 300 hours 100% completion and 12 arcs that needs to be completed with all their own sort of message and if you finish them all you get a after story where you get a bad ending and play a few other messages to finally get the best ending.
Clannad is a scarring experience.

Well, I played Clannad. I never played it to completion, but from what I did play, I personally thought it was rather stupid. Yes, I cried, but all the drama was very forced and sappy. Yeah, Katawa Shoujo isn't perfect either, but I feel that its stories and dialogue are a lot more personal and down-to-earth, in a way.

I played it to completion, and they're fucking assholes(The devs). They make sure that every moment that you could be happy are replaced by a moment that hurts your fucking soul.
The trick with this game is that it's relatively short and kept simple, plus the characters aren't straight out retarded like in Clannad and they are much much more down-to-earth, as you said.

i'm glad i saved right before the last choice in act 1 though, since lilly's and hanako's choices are exactly the same except for the last.. won't have to waste my time on act 1 again

It's pretty simple since you only need to do what's painfully obvious. Like don't be an ass, don't be shy about your disability, trust others more than your uneducated opinion...

I can safely say some of the choices in the latter parts of the archs are grayer. Some of them.
