Yeah Emi didn't always look like that, they changed her sprite and I'm not sure how I feel about that, it looks better and fits in better but at the same time it looks kinda sketchy like the above example :V

I've never had any experiences with a mute person, so I wouldn't know for sure.
Yeah I'm pretty sure the backgrounds are effects not painted, it doesn't really matter though. But what annoyed me was when it said the characters had paint on their faces and the sprites didn't reflect that, or they just slid off screen instead of walking.
I guess it must take ages to write the dialogue, well maybe they will improve the visual assets in the finished game anyway.
In related news, I just 100%'d it.

In all seriousness, The writing in this is far above average, it's not incredible but it's far above average as far as VNs go and boy have i played some average VNs (Immoral study, in the 2nd one he actually puts engine parts in the chicks vagina.) I usually don't connect with characters as much as I did, But i think making them the least annoying thing and actually giving them a background that's not "Hi i'm going to tell you my life story and thats all you need to know about me" is great. Plus it's an original plot created by the people who usually enjoy VNs, you should know why this makes it better than the smutty bullshit that is thrown out simply to get the right hand used (Or left if you are weird or left handed (weird))
I wont be surprised if a while after the full version comes out that some below average anime is created, it's got the potential in my opinion and it looks like it's already incredibly popular.
