Funny thing, I made similar observations as I watched my sister play Animal Crossing on the DS when we were in Munich (a few days ago and i'm still recovering from the jet lag and a cold I caught some time earlier). I saw the fishing thing and, whilst there were plenty of fish, you couldn't really cook them, instead they could only be sold to that Tom Nook guy. Made me wonder how Animal Crossing would be if it had a hunger mechanic, like you could cook and eat food. Then again it's not exactly a game about survival; no, it's a game about paying off your debt to that goddam raccoon.
Really hope that later Minecraft updates bring more functional NPCs and better towns.

But in minecraft you still can't get apples from tress.

I'm loving this game, more than the original Minecraft right now. This should be on a PSP or a PSVita, or some other portable device.
Oh and WHY THE HELL IS THE SAVE FUNCTION MOD ONLY SAVING AFTER I DIE?!?! MAKING IT SO WHEN I LOAD BACK I FUCKING SEE THE LOSE TEXT AGAIN, GOD DAMNIT.
My only complaint is the interface.

I pressed I and it saved, I saw a little bit of lag, so it had to have saved then when I died I came back and it loaded back onto the death screen :(

That's strange. I tested this exact scenario myself (saving, dying, pressing c and loading) and it worked.

I just tested it myself, saved, went into water and drowned.
When I used the Load option in the menu it brought me to the You Died! message with me in the water.
Then I closed the game and reopened it and it loaded me properly. Maybe that's something.
I can't launch any of the modded versions. I don't know why, it just doesn't work for me.
Something like this, just a bit more complex, would be very nice for smartphones, and actually also just as PC game.

You can get apples from trees, there's a small chance that breaking leaves will drop an apple.

I'd like to see that mod that there was talk about that let you place stone blocks, and if it ever gets made, make it so when you place stone blocks it takes 4 stone from you instead of one so you can't farm for stone stuff
