What about everyone that isn't in America, or in that case, in the Times Square Plaza at 12:00.
They would have to watch crappy cell phone camera videos of it on YouTube.
Around 12:00 at the Times Square Plaza at the date that Half-Life was released, every screen goes black and speakers start blasting the combine theme. Then a redesigned lambada logo and combine propaganda appear on the screens, followed by three images from the game.
Then everyone not familiar with Half-Life or gaming in general flips the fuck out and thinks Earth is being invaded.
Then everyone not familiar with Half-Life or gaming in general flips the fuck out and thinks Earth is being invaded.
I don't see the problem there.
I don't see the problem there.
It's happened before with that old radio broadcast "War of the Worlds".
I have a feeling Half Life 3 will be announce in 2012.
I have a feeling Half Life 3 will be announce in 2012.
That's awfully optimistic of you.
It's happened before with that old radio broadcast "War of the Worlds".
It's funny because people didn't actually freak out, just the media overhyped the reaction.
It's funny because people didn't actually freak out, just the media overhyped the reaction.
Well actually people were freaking out thinking that aliens were attacking the Earth but okay lol
Well actually people were freaking out thinking that aliens were attacking the Earth but okay lol
But they didn't.
Some listeners heard only a portion of the broadcast, and in the atmosphere of tension and anxiety just prior to World War II, took it to be an actual news broadcast...
Lots of people thought it was about WW2, and then tuned off, never hearing the rest.
Richard J. Hand cites studies by unnamed historians who "calculate[d] that some six million heard the CBS broadcast; 1.7 million believed it to be true, and 1.2 million were 'genuinely frightened'"... Later studies suggested this panic was less widespread than newspapers suggested. During this period, many newspapers were concerned that radio, a new medium, would render the press obsolete. In addition, this was a time of yellow journalism, and as a result, journalists took this opportunity to demonstrate the dangers of broadcast by embellishing the story, and the panic that ensued, greatly.
..did you happen you read the end of your quote?
In addition, this was a time of yellow journalism, and as a result, journalists took this opportunity to demonstrate the dangers of broadcast by embellishing the story, and the panic that ensued, greatly.
People were afraid that aliens were attacking the planet. Calm your nipples.
Did you happen to read the end of the quote? It plainly says that the media embellished the reaction to get people to stop listening to radio.
either way, war of the worlds is awesome
Know what would be cool? for the announcement they go to major cities in America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America, and actually do a real life ARG. Valve employees would put clues and missions across the cities and at the very end all they find is a crowbar with a small lambda logo on it(or something better). I think that would be the most original and exiting way to announce HL3, letting the fans be apart of the announcement.
Didn't Valve give out actual signed crowbars at one point? I can't remember what it was for, it was at E3 in 2006 or something. It might have been in their office at Seattle, I don't know.
I really think half life 2 ep3 info will be coming to us soon.
This was said exactly a year ago, which just shows how much we have been wrong.

Well, it's been this long, and still no news. I think I'll listen to Gabe's Episode 2 Commentary and cry myself to sleep.
I still think that comment that Gabe made in The Final Hours of Portal 2 (IIRC) about how there will be a game coming out 5 years from now that will "change gaming forever" extremely disheartening. I'm okay with them taking a long while to perfect the final installment in the story arc (One of the most highly praised story arcs in gaming, mind you), but 8-9 years is a bit much to say the very least, especially after they left the series on a massive cliffhanger and the series in question is also their flagship franchise.
I am still convinced that Portal 2 was originally supposed to not come out until after the next Half-Life, while I can not remember the link, I know you guys still remember that long before Portal 2, when the interviewer asked them about that, Doug stopped Gabe, when Gabe thought that everyone was only talking about is Episode Three. Which Doug told Gabe they are not.
Hope they bring back the Bullsquid/Bullchicken and the Houndeye from Half-Life 1 :D They will probably add ironsights too.But one thing they shouldnt do is use the CoD type of HUD (a.k.a. get to cover when hurt and recover), because almst every single modern shooter uses it, but hl should keep the oldschool HUD :)
My theory is that they were pretty damn far into HL2 ep3 development, started working more on the creepy and scarier parts of the Portal 2 story arc, and then realized that they had to make HL2 ep 3 scarier and creepier than it already was. After hearing Gabe say that HL3 (or ep3 whatever he said) will be the most terrifying game that Valve's ever created, I was convinced that they realized that the games before HL3 were just not "the world has been totally fucked up" enough. They're going straight back to the Passion they felt for the original HL2, which was MUCH scarier than the edition we all know now.

Half Life's mythos could be so incredibly disturbing, and it's on it's way there, but it needs another push. Episode 3 could be the weirdest yet.

They have to get this perfect on the first try
I don't care whether the game is "perfect "or not. I will always like the games in the half-life series. Especially the last one, because I want to end the damn story.

Valve never said that directly. I don't think valve wants to make more half-life. They want to focus on other projects. I think that is part of the reason why EP3 is taking so long. Yes, valve works with different teams and stuff, but I think all those teams are focussing on other things right now. They've announced 2 new games and they still have to offer support for a lot of other games (DLC for portal, updates for TF2...). And second of all, I don't think I want another half-life. The series is taking too long now. It is a great game series (I've played HL1 and 2 over and over years ago), but it should end some day. Otherwise, you'll get the whole Call of Duty-effect.

The G-Man part in Ep2 was so amazingly well done. I hope we get more of that.
The G-Man part in Ep2 was so amazingly well done. I hope we get more of that.
I love the mystery and darkness behind the anonymity of his role in the entire game. It's like he has a pivotal role in it all, yet we know the least about him out of anyone or anything.

I'm hoping there is 2-3 more half life games after episode 3/half life 3.
