It's a texture reused from Water Hazard. It means nothing.
So? That doesn't mean it doesn't mean anything. God that sounded redundant.
:cawg: Oh please, It being shot down would serve so many purposes for gameplay reasons. It ensures that anyone with you and Alyx gets killed, takes away your weapons so the typical weapon progression/balancing can happen, lets you know that there is immediate danger, pads out the game as you now have to travel on-foot to whatever the first objective is, Probably more stuff i'm not thinking about. That helicopter is going down.
It is going to crash from a failure in the system. Alyx said she fixed up an old Chopper. It will crash on an Iceberg, splitting in two, you will lose all weapons and have to take an icepick (crowbar, I dont give a fuck) and SMG from a nearby cottage. Proceed to Stray Hunter fight on the ice with no Health or ammo near.

I'm sure they can come up with a new solution to the same problem Episode 2 presented. Starting Episode 3 almost exactly like Episode 2 seems kind of lazy on Valve's part to me.
I don't know why I don't remember that.
From what you've described. - Chopper crash - Lost weapons - Fight hunter The way Episode Two started. - Train crash - Lost weapons - Fight a few zombies, meet a hunter. The events may be a bit different, but the principle still sounds the same to me.
And now I do.
Eli is going to come back to life via vontigons.
SHORT: NO LONG: NOOOOOOOO VERY LONG: Doubtful, Eli is dead. Alyx was only injured, and the vortigaunts kept saying they had to sustain her while you went to get the extract. If they can bring back the dead, why didnt they all 4 come with me and just annihalate anything that comes up against them? It would have been a lot easier.
i hope they bring back breen, i always liked the scenes in witch he spoke. like in the citidel with eli and alyx, he just acts, smooth

A robotic breen... Why? Because only his mind got through. Fuck yes. [editline]11:14PM[/editline] I would actually like to see a combine-ized version of the Nihallinth or whatever it was from Half-Life 1.

Here's what I think happens with Breen:
Here's what I see in the game: Alyx and Gordon are flying over the snowy tundra, heading on the right track to the Borealis. Suddenly, their helicopter gets shot down by a new combine device, and they go down. When Gordon and Alyx come to, DOG is broken and busted. Alyx sobs for a moment, then decides that she is going to fix it, telling Gordon once again, "I'll stay here and take care of DOG, while you go find out what shot us down." On your way to the Borealis, you encounter a new combine enemy, a snow snake. Kind of like Lost Planet, this thing is made out of white metal, with laser-guided missiles. You defeat it, but it lands on you, knocking you unconsious. When you come to, you find yourself being dragged through a make-shift camp in the snow. they lock you in a jail, soon following Alyx. She said she was mid-way fixing DOG when a combine sentry knocked her out. Suddenly, she pulled out her unlocker thingy, she uses the laser to cut the metal. Once you're free of the cell, she hands you a new weapon, a metal pipe broken off from the toilet. This shall be your new crowbar for the time being. You fight through hordes of combine, surprised at how badly they want you to stay here. You break out, and head south towards the Borealis. Once you arrive at the ship, Alyx marvels at the sight. Once you get inside, there are boxes of whatever (I have no imagination for the Borealis contents, so bear with me). Alyx hands you the makeshift charges that Kleiner gave her before they departed. You plant the charges, and get out of the ship. Soon, you find yourself staring at five dozen combine, with a grin-wearing breen standing in front of you. He tells you that you almost killed him, before combine sentries found him and carried him away, healing most of his fractured/dismembered body. He lifts his sleeve and two pant legs to reveal a robotic appendage now replaces his flesh and bone. Alyx and gordon struggle as they are hed captive once again by the combine, forced to watch as the combine defuse the charges and carry out the crates. Suddenly, a half-rebuilt DOG comes to the rescue and barrels down the combine, showing impressive stuff as he kills everybody. He then lands on top of Breen, and hesitates to kill him as he begs for his life. Suddenly, Breen pulls out a gun and starts firing into DOG's head, cutting off it's circuitry etc. Alyx goes into a slow-motion cutscene, taking Gordon's crowbar and whacking Breen in the head so hard, it almost seemed like it was gonna fly off. Soon alyx cries and starts frantically trying to rebuild DOG, bu it was no use. She gathers up most of dog and put inside a Combine backpack, not before taking a coat as well. So now, you both get to see a sexy Alyx in an eskimo suit, and a naked combine. I'm a bit too tired to finish the rest, I was just writing down what I was thinking. Oh, a while later she shall rebuild DOG in a smaller "puppy" form, starting from scratch once again.

It already was obviously combine-ised
No, a return. MORE BADASS
That scene rules tho
What is to say you even go to the arctic? Maybe you don't even go there.
What is to say you even go to the arctic? Maybe you don't even go there.
Why wouldn't you? You just wait for someone else to go to the borealis?
I want to see a connection to Portal. That would make me start crying.
What is to say you even go to the arctic? Maybe you don't even go there.
Ok, dr. mossman was in the arctic, so i dont think they're gonna say "Screw Mossman
Ok, dr. mossman was in the arctic, so i dont think they're gonna say "Screw Mossman
Some people here probably will.
This is the nerdiest argument ever.
Indeed.
All I got to say is: This game will be kickass and probably twice as long as episode 2 due to it taking so long to be released, and right now, I'm going to play through episode 1. Bye.
Race X should come back, I wanna fight those things that shoot electricity at you with those bugs
I want to see a connection to Portal. That would make me start crying.
Cake Easter Egg. [editline]10:18PM[/editline] Shock Troopers, peanuts, Shock Troopers.
Yeah those things
Portal was a really humorous game and Half-Life is pretty serious. As awesome as Portal is, I don't want the conclusion to this storyline to be riddled with comedic easter eggs and references to a game that stopped being funny a year and a half ago.
Gordon Freeman and Chell meet up. Too bad neither of them talk.
Haha, that'd be pretty funny :P
http://members.shaw.ca/halflifestory/timeline.htm Has anyone mentioned this yet? - Knowing the full story behind half life helps me think of how ep 3 might go down.
I just hope Valve is done with Zombies. We already had Ravenholm and Lowlife. I don't want stupid shit like Stalker zombies or Antlion Zombies. And I also don't want a new type of headcrab. And enough with Combine environments. We have had the Citadel, twice. Plus the occasional building that the Combine put equipment in. Although I would LOVE to see stuff like the Combine's lockers and Cantine and stuff like that. In the citadel, most we saw were pods, pods and more pods. And the occasional machinery. But where do the Combine stay when they are not watching over Stalkers or fighting Freeman? And maybe have a scene where a Combine soldier that is alone with Freeman and Alyx surrounding him, he surrenders? And reveals his true face? That would be awesome.
