Do-able in HL2DM actually. It will requre a map and serverside plugin that fixes NPCs. (Valve messed up npcs in HL2DM) Map should have TDM setting + NPCs. Also this would need really good goal for opposed teams to reach. UT-style core destruction maybe?
If I wanted something like an item shop or levelling systems, it wouldn't really work for HL2DM and would need to be a proper mod (server plugins suck imo, especially for things involving menus), and you also get the added bonus of better presentation. But yeah, the question is what do you replace towers and barracks with. I also realised that headcrabs, zombies, antlions and the like fit nicely into the idea that you'd have neutral enemies around the map to farm on, as they are antagonistic to both Combine and Rebels. Man, I can imagine this popping into place.
But yeah, the question is what do you replace towers and barracks with.
I think both sides have some sort of guard tower already in game that could be the towers (you might even be able to just parent some sentries to it), but the barracks might need to be a custom model.
What happened to that Source-based HL2 RTS mod? You could talk nicely to the devs of that and see if you can use their mod as a base in the same way that DOTA used WIII as a base
I just had an awesome idea for a source mod that I might have a go at making some time, add it to my list of things to do after watching a video reminding me how awesome White Forest is. Essentially the idea is that you cross over Half-Life 2 Deathmatch with Dota on an open map in the style of White Forest. One team is Combine, one team is Rebels, and like in Dota there are NPCs which spawn from each base in waves and go into lanes. It's a rough idea but I think it could be an awesome one if implemented. I shall start browsing the Source 2007 solution pretending I know C++ and where on earth to start.
While cool, do you have any idea how long Valve has been working on Dota 2? Perhaps a map and reskin pack for Dota 2 would be better?

They've even got infected now from l4d. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpcgWmmzLIM
Do I have to preorder to get the Freeman car or is it just for buying it on Steam?
I want to know too.
Well, if you want to be better safe then sorry, maybe preload it the first chance you get, because you more then already know damn well others want this bad.

I'm getting more of a Mr. Bean vibe from him, honestly.
I dont even want that much from episode to be honest. bare minimum= more maps , new vehicle - i would be fine with this What would be great best version of source with every feature from past source games included Improvements in animation, lighting and a few more features (tessellation or materials or physics or world creation details like 3d ropes ) Im mostly talking about animation here. New models for Characters, weapons and new textures for things. I dont realy care for cinimatic destructions and ultra new and detailed world props that i only see once
i dont care about the graphics, it could use the exactly graphics from episode 2, i want to know what happens next, the history :(
Did anyone else get really disoriented in the stalker car just before Lowlife in EP1? Took me a while to figure out which way was up!
Has anyone discovered what that weight anomaly was with the rocket ship near the end of episode 2? Spoilers. How do they work?
Has anyone discovered what that weight anomaly was with the rocket ship near the end of episode 2? Spoilers. For how long they're taking to release any bit of content for this game, I'd expect them to have been working on this game since Ep2 released. In that case it's been atleast 4 years. That's a long time in development for there so called "episodic" series. Therefore I expect a lot from this game. I want it to be a revolution in both gameplay and artistic views.

Whether 4 or 7, it's still an extraordinarily long development time for what's supposed to be an episodic title.
Whether 4 or 7, it's still an extraordinarily long development time for what's supposed to be an episodic title.
Except gabe said the epesodic model was a failure and they werent gonna use it anymore, something like that.
I expect...Ep3...and HL3 anounced in a not too far future from Ep3.
Anyone else wonder why they would leave the story on such a "OMG WHATS GONNA HAPPEN!?" moment, to (what I'm assuming) upgrade the game's graphics/AI/game play?
Episode 2 released in 2007 It's been 4 years not 7 lol
whoops. For some reason I thought it was 2004. >.>
There is already a cover system. It's simply not dynamic and requires noding.
whoops. For some reason I thought it was 2004. >.>
That was when HL2 was released. Unless I'm completely mistaken
That was when HL2 was released. Unless I'm completely mistaken
Nope, you're right.
That's what I was thinking then! Hah I knew that date had a significant impact on me for some reason! xD
I'm pretty sure everyone knows this, but they were originally planning for an '03 release, however it just ended up not happening. And before anyone says this: No, it wasn't because of the leak.
