HL Episode 3 will come out when SiN Episode 2 comes out.
Nice joke.
Especially since the SiN Episodes team has disbanded, the company Ritual Entertainment has been absolved into MumoJumbo which is a casual game developer (Think peggle type games) and the series is on indefinite hiatus.
The SDK is broken, the code is out of date and I highly doubt any of the source code of it actually remains in their possession.

and we have to contribute rebel arms in the EP3 Steam Workshop
i like the sound of it, "EP3 Mod Emporium"
that worries me, about VPK'S AND MODDING D:
This discussion has been delayed by Gabe Newell.

I expect EP3 will retain the .gcf system, and HL3 will move to vpk.
I expect EP3 will retain the .gcf system, and HL3 will move to vpk.
Ohh I hope so.
I hope they improve vpk's
so that they are better than gcf's in every way
portal 2 uses l4d1 style addons
there really is no hope that ep3 wont be using vpk, just hope that theyre going to use the l4d2 addons format which wasnt in alien swarm despite how they want alien swarm to be handled by the community
I don't want to believe you, but I do.
if i was wrong then nobody would be modding the entire pak01_dir.vpk for portal 2 and alien swarm just to use custom skins and models or whatever
I meant the "no hope" part, but whatever.
I get the feeling that Valve knows most of the Half-Life community loves modding, so they'll try to find some way of making vpk more easily usable in terms of modding.
I think that Valve should be relieved that Skyrim came out, they've delayed us for about two months more when it comes to questions about Half Life
Hmmm, why would they make a totally new GMan model?
New engine perhaps?
Probably doesn't mean anything at all...
The crew cut, the widow's peak, the overall emaciated face. But yeah it could be anybody or nobody at all.

That's one shiny head
The reason valve has been silent on Ep3 is because they don't make PC games anymore and haven't since 2007. Episode three would have to be a game built around the PC in order to perform and sell properly.
Timeline:
October, 2007: The Orange Box (Valve's last pc games)
November, 2008: Left 4 Dead (Developed for consoles, ported to PC)
November, 2009: Left 4 Dead 2 (Developed for consoles, ported to PC)
April, 2011: Portal 2 (Developed for consoles, ported to PC)
Q1, 2012: CS:GO (Being developed for consoles, will be ported to PC)
Excluding of course Dota 2, which is a side project that a couple of devs are doing mainly for a hobby, and couldn't be played on a controller anyway.
In short: Don't expect a Half-Life continuation for a very, very long time, and if it ever does peak over the horizon, know what to expect.

You're horrifically wrong about Portal 2, that was made for PC over anything because it started as a mod with Portal.

How it started is irrelevant, how it ended is.
It ended as a console port.
The evidence is there, look for it.

What, they messed up one line in the entire game and now the entire thing is a port?

no physics objects (would cause consoles to explode)
low resolution textures
shoddy menu navigation
lacks various graphics options
Uses a shader which is practically exclusive to PS3/360 (it makes everything have an ugly shiny plastic look)
lacks anything you would expect a 2011 PC title to bring
Add them all up and you have a very potent console odor.
Don't get me wrong it was a great game, but it could have been a LOT better if it wasn't consolized at birth.
Actualy portal 2 is too big in terms of filesize.
Performance wise your being an idiot. Portal 2 runs BELOW the consoles limit. if they wanted to jack it up they could have. They just didnt because of people with computers weaker than consoles. Something most console developers dont do too well. Portal 2 had THE MOST physics objects valve has ever done. Look at the first scene when your little hut falls to pieces!! The graphics options are nearly the same as all of valve's other games. The menu is simply something different.

The room breaking apart was animated dynamic props, not Havok.
Current gen consoles are weaker than PCs were in 2004.
You sound like you need to seriously educate yourself before arguing this topic.
Portal 2 had THE MOST physics objects valve has ever done.
Most of the physics objects from Portal 1 that returned in Portal 2 were unmovable by all means.
And big stuff collapsing can be scripted.
I'm fairly certain Folgergeist is joking.

Or at least I hope.

I want to hear your side of the argument, you seem to disagree with me, I'm curious.
They could honestly be doing allot better with their engine, the only visible changes in portal 2 where the fancy shaders. Ive seen old old games with cloth physics, why don't they have that?

Console priorities holding them back.
When will they learn?!
