I think that's phong. Which has been in Source shortly after HL2 released I think. Not sure about that though
This is phong? Wow. It looked so over-done and shitty I didn't even recognize it.
This is phong? Wow. -big pic- It looked so over-done and shitty I didn't even recognize it.
I've never had phong look that bright, strange.
That is a mixture of Phong and Bloom, you just took the screenshot at the worst possible place.
Definitely isn't like that at all in any pre- '08 source games though. I think they do it so that the game looks more catchy at 720p on a console, but when on a PC at high resolution it looks horrible.
Yea but that was more cartoonish, watching rebels with limbs missing everywhere yelling for medics would be a little much for hl2
What about burned corpses and zombies all around the game? Maybe it's "cartoonish" for 2011 with all it's new movies and games but in Raising The Bar designers commented on how they wanted to make everything as disgusting as possible because monsters with big teeth won't scare anybody. Left 4 dead 2 is more cartoonish than Half Life 2:
Libs ripping in the next HL pls
Have we really gone down the drain so much that Half Life 2's colour palette containing the entire spectrum of colours besides grey and brown makes it look "cartoonish" to some?
What did you do wrong? There's nothing wrong with it! although the lamba symbol looks a bit out of place and if you were to put railings behind the cop it should improve the picture a little
Look at his mask, i accidentally cut out a part of his cheek and the ear antenna's. And he is quite rough on some edges. I should have cut him out manually using the eraser instead of using the quick selection tool. And I did not have a choice with that background as I was on the school network at the time and they blocked almost every good high-def picture of City 17/the Citadel

L4D2 Looked fucking terrible a lot of the time though because of it's heavy use of very poorly lit prop models. Just look at those balconies...god damn. If you are going to start using static props like modern engines do at least fix the lighting on them so your new games dont look worse than your old ones O.o
I really hope they finally add some half decent effects in the next game, with some fancy particle shit too. Better explosions, fire, muzzle flashes etc.
I really hope they finally add some half decent effects in the next game, with some fancy particle shit too.
i thought i was the only person who absolutely hated this about l4d2 every daylight map in l4d2 seems to have this "glow in the dark" props - aka props that arent affected by the shade theyre in as theyre still lit like they were in sunlight even though theyre placed on the corner of a dark room interestingly enough, p2 very rarely had this problem [editline]18th November 2011[/editline] so basically, the entirety of the parish campaign is "the wrong place"? ellis and nick's hands glow like fuck in the campaign
Most of l4d2 looked like shit, stop using it as an example, use L4D1 or Portal 2.
I hope everything is redone for Ep3/HL3, or at least, most of the stuff would get redone. For example, models, sounds, effects, etc.
Not likely to happen, allot of effects and sounds used in hl2 are also used in portal, valve always re-uses everything
The only expectations I have for Episode 3 is that it will have the same intro as Carpenter's The Thing.
The only expectations I have for Episode 3 is that it will have the same intro as Carpenter's The Thing.
Gordon running out of a chopper screaming in Norwegian? I'm OK with that
Gordon running out of a chopper screaming in Norwegian? I'm OK with that
He does look a bit like him, only in arctic gear. :v:
Today is 19th November. It's 13th birthday of Half-Life.
Today is 19th November. It's 13th birthday of Half-Life.
Guess I should continue playing Half-Life 2: Crowbar Chronicles. [sp]this shits impossible[/sp]
Today is 19th November. It's 13th birthday of Half-Life.
Oh! happy birthday half-life!

My dreams are evil. Last night I dreamt that a trailer had FINALLY been released, and I went on here to see if anyone else knew about it and someone else had posted a link to it so I was "That must be legit." and I got all mega excited. Then I woke up :tinfoil:
Episode Three boss confirmed to be Dr. Judith "Space-time Mom" Mossman. [t]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/630731920670423646/35F290DA5A33E2DEC9BAD61558D48441DB29ADB5/[/t] [editline]22nd November 2011[/editline] "Barney"s also make a return.
Half life one had glorious gibs. Everyone exploded to pieces on death. It was beautiful!! But tell me you wouldnt mind this happening - using the double barrelled function of the shotgun against a combine helmet, breaking it away to see the bloody and robotic parts of the head underneath - seeing parts fall of antlions and zombies as you shoot them. Then fighting their legless/armless variations (and if they loose both arms they will try to eat you using their belly mouth) it would just make killing things a little more visceral. And you'd feel bad or horrified seeing rebels gain wounds such as missing limbs or large gashes from the claws of zombies and become incapacitated. They would beg for medics and health kits until a zombie drags them away or eats them. Maybe a combine soldier would brutally put them down?
I agree with this. Gibs could be used to great effect to amplify how truthfully morbid the Half Life games are. And anyone who says it's depressing and out of place, go read Raising the Bar. There's a lot of stuff in HL2 that you don't notice that's actually really freaky. (I.E. the zombies are still conscious people, just being controlled. You can hear the screams and shouts of people being brutally tortured and turned into Stalkers in the Citadel. And the game generally has a very sad and oppressive atmosphere once you learn all of these things. Playing through Ravenholm after knowing those things was uniquely sad and terrifying.)
can we have lightmaps on static models in EP3 like UE3 has pretty please [editline]22nd November 2011[/editline] and self-shadowing to go along with it.
I never realized how horrific some elements of Half Life 2 were until I started reading Raising the Bar. So with Gabe's promise of scaring the players again, I'm pretty excited to be freaked the fuck out.

I think Valve should announce some news on Episode 3 soon because we're going to expect a lot more if they keep us waiting longer.
I think Valve should announce some news on Episode 3 soon because we're going to expect a lot more if they keep us waiting longer.
"Well, uh, the main character is Gordon Freeman. You happy now?"
I think Valve should announce some news on Episode 3 soon because we're going to expect a lot more if they keep us waiting longer.
The end of a sale might be a good time.
I think Valve should announce some news on Episode 3 soon because we're going to expect a lot more if they keep us waiting longer.
And we will still underestimate it. They made Half Life 2 from scratch in 6 years. They are already making next half life game for 5 years (active development started mid 2006 according to some developers in steam, interview and ep2 commentary). For those who think that if they make hats for tf2 they automatically don't do anything about half life, think again: 8 people made portal, about 40 made portal 2. Valve has 200+ developers. No way they are putting all of them on one game. Comes to mind EA's statement that because of funding cuts they are forced to cut down the development to 40 games at once.
